I never pictured Carol as a redhead either. I haven't read this one for a while and forgot it had a description of her. Truthfully, I never really "picture" any of the characters except a very, very basic idea. I'm strange this way when I read. What exactly does it say Carol looks like? I remember the Stephie flower story, I think. It is one reason I like Stephie Jeff's terrible jokes are also one reason I can't stand him. This was one of the first BSC books I owned (probably one of the first 15 or so) so I read it several times but it's really not one of my favorites (and I got kind of tired of it so I haven't read it for a while. I might have to again, though.

I think it was the one about the goat and the butter where I was like, ugh, no Jeff. Don't.
I love his joke that goes something like this (from Too Many Sitters):
Why was Mar Anne sad? Because she was missing her Y.
;D
It wasn't very descriptive at all - just that she has red hair.

I pictured her as yet another stereotypical California blonde.

I always pictured Carol as a blonde. But maybe that's just because everybody in California is blonde...

I always pictured Carol as having really short brown hair for some reason. Anyway, I didn't really care for this book. Dawn just seemed way too out of character to me, and I generally dislike any books that focus mostly on her California adventures.
As for my take on who's who on the cover: Dawn is the one with the sunglasses on her head playing with what I assume is Stephie's hair. Maggie is holding the radio, Sunny is on the phone, and I guess Jill is the one holding the lotion bottle because she has the darkest hair.

^ I always saw Carol with short, light brown or dirty blond hair, in spite of the fact that she was known as the "hair Queen" and in spite of the fact that in the picture of her and Jack in SS #12 shows her with long, curly, dark brown hair!

These are my same thoughts As for Carol's appearance, I usually can't "picture" characters but I have kind of a rough image of her looking like Sharon with shoulder-length blonde, curly-ish hair (not sure if that is what Sharon is described as looking like but that's how I picture her)

I find it practically impossible to picture a Californian in a BSC book as anything other than blonde.

^ That seems to be the writers impression of them, sotypical I must just want to "go against the flow" ;D I will have to check out the picture in SS 12 as I don't remember it but never usually pay much attention to the pictures because I prefer forming my own images. As for this book, the one thing that I find funny is how Kristy becomes almost obsessed with making the BSC famous - another case of her competitive side and her extra desire to compete with Dawn. I can totally understand her feelings, though, and probably would have been the same way. Too bad she couldn't get the BSC on the news.

I can't believe how she made the trip and acted selfish. But also, i can't believe the money Dawn had to take the taxi. taxi's are so expensive for a local trip in my area. ah well. AND i like how they never mentioned again about Dawn's debt owing in the books after. Or the rest of the BSC ever mentioning Dawn's stunt
I guess her parents just forgave her? but that would make her more a spoiled brat then, right? ahhh i dont know

Well, to be fair, Whitney has brown hair.
As far as the cover, I always assumed the girl on the phone was Sunny. Ugh, I have no idea now.
I love the beginning of the book where Dawn is eating veggie chips with Sunny. In fact, I'm eating veggie chips now, too! They're honestly not that different from potato chips, but they are delish.
I couldn't believe that Dawn's mom wouldn't let her stay just a few days in Stoneybrook. I know it was only right to send her back to CA, but I would have been mad if my mom had already bought me a ticket, too.

^ Doesn't Stephie Robertson have brown hair, too? What do veggie chips taste like? They sound pretty good, actually. I always assumed that Sharon didn't let Dawn stay at all as a form of punishment and that's why Dawn accepted it - because she knew she'd really messed up. I think it's time to reread this one. (after Christmas, though)
