I like all of their clothes on the cover. Caitlin's outfit is cute too, I'm pretty sure I had a pinafore like that too around the same time I bought that book in 92'
Did anyone else like reading about Jessi preparing the Kid Kit?
I'm realizing I like drama, I wish one of the sitters and their parents were out in public shopping or something and ran into the Lowells (with the sitters' parents knowing about everything) and how that would have gone down. It would have been sad I know, but it could have been turned into an important lesson for kids, who often don't have a voice but learn prejudice from a young age.

Doesn't Jessi put a huge stapler or something in her Kid Kit? Wouldn't that be annoying and cumbersome to lug around with you? I just remember the stapler being mentioned in the part where Jessi and Becca are mentioning office.

I can't remember mention of a stapler, but I hope it was a tiny palm sized one, though I don't remember seeing those in the 90's

I only read this once, when I was I was teen. Don't remember it. Glad, I re-read this book.
Mrs. Lowell is wicked lady. If, she so picky, of who to baby-sit her kids. She learn take care of her children on her own. Unless, she wants hire a robot, take care of her children.
Sub-Plot: Nothing much to say. If, I was at the concert. Sound off key.
Chapter 10 Was really powerful. I thought, I was at the meeting with the BSC.
The boy on the front cover Looks like David Gallagher aka Simon Cadmen. Younger version of him.

The boy on the front cover Looks like David Gallagher aka Simon Cadmen. Younger version of him. Maybe it IS him! Kirsten Dunst modeled for one of the covers, and Danielle Roberts on the cover of Jessi and the Troublemaker looks JUST like Scarlett Johanson.

^ Someone on this board mentioned how Kirsten Dunst was the model on the original cover of Phantom Phone Calls.

I LOVED this book when I was younger and I think it holds up pretty well. I was actually pretty satisfied with the ending, I think it was nice for them to just realise that they can solve every problem and that they had to learn to deal with that and just do what they could.
I will say as someone who was baptised Catholic as a baby and has only been to Catholic schools I had no idea about the stereotype of us having large families until I was a teenager. At my school there was one family with eight kids and one with six and they were related (the fathers were brothers or something) and they were treated as an exception. Virtually all of my friends and I had 2 or 3 kids and when the mother had her eighth there was an article about it in our local paper so that part of the book thoroughly confused me as a child.

This time around it felt like Ann simply ran out of space or decided to throw in the towel on the story, sort of like the ending of "Pet Sitter," when Jessi says something like "best friends have a lot to talk about," and that was it. Not that I was sorry to see that book end but you know. Back to this one, I did like how in the beginning Claudia invited Janine to keep her company while she (Claud) cleaned up her room before a BSC meeting. I like those little moments and am definitely a Janine fan. I found one "teeny" thing to like about Mrs. Lowell. On Pages 26-27 she asks Mary Anne a few basic questions about her sitting experience. I think she was the only parent to ever do that. Too bad that second was canceled out by everything else about her! A few "highlights" of sorts. First off. I thought Kristy did a great job of BSC president and friend in this book. I really liked how Ann wrote her character. She was loyal to her friends while leading the club at the same time, friends first. Later on, the "friends" can become lost, by all of the girls, really. :/ Lighter notes, on page 55 Mr. Ohdner calls during a Lowell discussion. I wonder if there is name was supposed to be close to "oh dear?" I want to read Becca's story about "The Ghost in My (Her) Room. Page 59. She's working on that when Jessi asks for Kid-Kit suggestions. Then there was Shea's name for the band on Page 66..."Turtle Toes!" In reality that would be more of a logical choice for 2.5-9 year olds than "All the Children." Finally, I love Jamie. "Teeny Mutant Stinky Turtles" on page 33 and he even calls Claudee at a BSC meeting. Page 122.

^ It could be that none of the other parents asked because they knew. Kristy, Mary Anne, and Claudia grew up knowing many of the Stoneybrook families, and word of mouth probably told other parents all they needed to know. When the other girls joined the club, the reputation of the originals was probably enough for the newbies to be trusted as well. Mrs. Lowell didn't seem to have any connections to other parents in town, so I'm guessing she just didn't know what to expect from Mary Anne.

Finally a book where one of the bsc makes Claudia not word a sign b/c she mispelled it!!! How has it taken this long for that to happen??
Other than that, this book is gross. Stupid racists and then that band ... One thing I did find humorous was when dawn says teaching the Lowell's a lesson isn't. Their job. Since when has the bsc not taught people a lesson or interfered when they shouldn't have ... Hehehe

^ I'm trying to imagine a parody of the BSC marching over to the Lowells to confront them after band practice...it would very much be like the scenes in Mary Anne and the Brunettes!

Sigh, I had hoped this book somehow had gotten better, but it didn't. With the 4th coming up, I wanted to read a band BSC book since that makes me think of parades. I still stand by my comments on page 11 from 3 Junes ago and the ones above from November 2 years ago. Jamie's sweetness and his being so funny (Calling Claudee on the phone and the Teeny Mutant Stinky Turtles) makes me want to hug him. He will always be my very favorite charge. Jackie was a great mc and I enjoyed the idea of the band red T's with "All the Children" on them probably because that reminded me of the Krushers. Also, lol, Nancy's Hawaii souvenir T shirt that says, "My parents went to Hawaii and all they bought me was this dumb shirt." Moments like those are so very Stoneybrook endearing.
