About three quarters of the way through, just finished the chapter about the concert and Evil Karina. All I can do is ... in BSC Land, apparently children are loving and tolerant beings, who don't question the strange appearance or behavior of a child with Down's Syndrome, whereas adults are coarse, crass, nasty individuals who stare, point, giggle, practically gag at the sight of them and mutter how "disgusting" they are. Give me a break. Also, what's with Dawn's dad, the man-sleeper? Heaven forbid any of these divorced parents don't find a new wife within a few months. FFS!

It's because he's getting over Carol! They get his name wrong in one of the chapters... Dawn says his name is Richard. I think.
I loved the description of the food that they ate on the dates. It sounded so tasty!
And word on the adult tolerance levels.

I finished it tonight... that was implied, but not directly stated. I think the point was to highlight that Carol was really the woman for him. Which is fine by me, I actually liked Carol. Particularly in the CD series. One of Mr Schafer's dates refers to him as Richard - I noticed that error as well! I'm thinking HUH? Because I had a momentary mental blank and couldn't remember Mr Schafer's first name (Jack). I was certain it wasn't the same as Dawn's stepfathers, although I know Ann and co like to use the same name multiple times. At least three BSC dads are named John.

Heh, I noticed the John thing! We have three Johns, an Ed, a Jack, a Richard, a Patrick... such exciting names.

And Jack is usually a nickname for John, which is the case with Mr Schafer too. There's a reference in the Bridesmaid book.
I think the two John Ramsey brothers is the funniest of all, though.
Speaking of names, why are their so many weird double-named characters? John Philip, David Michael, Emily Michelle... I'm sure there's more, just can't think of them now.

yeah, this book was so silly. i hated that karina b*tch (she was one letter away from having my name, ahhaha) and man sleeper jack or john or whatever. i did like carol tho. and hated dawn and how she thought she was so amazing for trying to help whitney out or whatever.
btw, speaking of the names, there are some serious continuity issues with them. mr schaefers name keeps changing from jack to john, in the SS where they went to camp jessi wrote a letter to her mum and dad (whose name is john, how original) but it was addressed to a mr and mrs ALEX Ramsey. isnt his name John Philip cos squirt is named after him??
and in another SS Mals dad was called Daniel, not John. its so annoying, i think that cos they had so many ghostwriters they got confused or something.

Can you imagine the BSC without incinsistencies? We should suggest it to Scholastic... relaunch the series without the inconsistencies.

At least they should have had a contest for it for little kids.

They really need to relaunch the series, with or without the inconsistencies. Check eBay - there's definitely a market for those books!

Maybe we could start a campaign for them to relaunch it... Or at least write to Scholastic and ask if there are plans to.

That makes me even madder now that I missed that used book sale in the library near my house. They had taken many of their BSC books off of the shelves, and when I got there they were all sold out of them. Ugh.
