Again, surprised that I didn't see a thread when I thought there was one. I just reread while on vacation and enjoyed it, as always. Especially liked the date scenes and almost wish MA would have ended up with Alex, though this would have been a long distance relationship so wouldn’t have been good for other books. Could have added some “pining”, though…. Thinking of Winter Vacation and the postcards to Logan I also like the part about Margo on the trampoline. Read that part to my mom and she said she could relate to Margo and really felt for her. I did too. Also for Vanessa when the boy likes Mal, not her. I thought she handled it really well. I like all of the Pike girls, which is one reason I enjoy the Sea City books so much. One thing that I really noticed while reading this time was the parallels/similarties between this book and Boy Crazy Stacey. Probably noticed them because I had read Boy Crazy the day before. It almost seemed like some parts were taking place simultaneously – maybe like this one was MA’s version of the first Sea City trip. But there were some differences so I know this wasn’t the case. The scenes on the beach with the kids were what really struck me as similar. Did anyone else notice these similarities? I don’t think I like this one as much as Boy Crazy Stacey but it is one of my favorites – probably in the top 20, though, instead of the top 10.

There is no thread for this one? Weird! It's one of my favorites, I think. I love the sea city books But I agree the plot seems kind of similar in ways to Boy Crazy Stacey, and Mary Anne made me feel a little uncomfortable in this one, with the date with Alex and stuff...

Wasn't this the best selling BSC book of all time or something? It was one of the first ones I owned, and one of my favorites to this day! I'm glad we got to see Sea City from Mary Anne's perspective. I always get hungry reading this book, though. Not only is Sea City food awesome, but the whole episode with the Rodowskis and Kristy at the pool makes me want a burger and fries!

^ I forgot about the pool scene! Really funny and made me hungry, too.

I agree about the food scene. Everytime I read it I wanted a burger and fries. BSC books have a tendency to do that to me. I liked this book a lot, although not as much as the other Sea City books. In my heart Boy crazy Stacey is the best sea City book ever.

I read this book last night so I could add to the discussion Haven't had any time lately for fluffy reading, so last night I made some time and read it in one sitting. Okay, first of all, here Stacey goes AGAIN about freaking bath towels! Remember in Sea City Here We Come where she flips out on Dawn about the wash cloth? She does the same thing to MA in this about the bath towels! Girlfriend is crazy and seriously needs to take it down a notch. I mean we always talk about how MA can kinda freak out and stuff, but what about Stacey?! Look at the books where she gets angry, she totally goes off the handle over NOTHING. Her accepting Toby's 2nd date w/o asking MA was ridiculous and rude. I loved the MA/Vanessa thing. I thought it was really sweet and unexpected how they bonded. I really like Vanessa and I think she's really underdeveloped as a Pike kid. All the attention is usually on Adam, Nicky or Claire. I liked her poem to Mary Anne, that was really sweet Other thoughts... wtf is Mary Anne doing going on a date with Alex. Geesh woman. Think of all the secret dates she has behind Logan's back. Rather inappropriate if you ask me. Esp when she's like "omg I didn't even think of Logan once!" Real nice. I'm wondering why Mary Anne automatically assumed Mallory would have no interest in Chris. The obligatory Stoneybrook babysitting chapters... whatever. Kristy didn't seem very responsible at the pool, I mean those kids are really young and they seemed to be allowed to run off wherever they wanted. I'm surprised Jackie didn't drown to death, you'd think Kristy would've kept a better eye on him. LOTS of food in this one. The spinach lasagna Sharon makes sounded soo good. Where are Toby and Alex from?

I'm wondering why Mary Anne automatically assumed Mallory would have no interest in Chris. Maybe because MA couldn't be trusted when Logan wasn't around for two seconds, but Mallory could stay faithfull to her sort-of-boyfriend

Agree Inge. Maybe also MA assumed because Chris was younger than Mal, that she wouldn't like him. I think he was the same age as the triplets, who Mal sits for, so this might be kind of weird. Also agree with all of your points/questions, sotypical, and thought the same about Kristy. Why did she let Jackie go to get his own food? I never understood this (especially considering that it is Jackie the Walking Disaster. But with any kid, that seems a bit irresponsible). The one thing I didn't pick up on was the bath towels but I do remember Stacey making a big deal out of something with the towels in Sea City Here We Come. Anyone else notice the major similarities between this one and Boy Crazy Stacey (which remains my favorite and I like Stacey more in than in this one)?

I think Toby was from New Jersey? Scott the lifeguard was from Princeton, but I thought Toby was from there as well. Not totally sure.

I forgot to put that. Yes, just looked in Boy Crazy Stacey and Toby is from Lawrenceville, NJ (not sure if it is a real place).

Chris is actually 12, not 10.

Then it doesn't make sense. It would make more sense that he and Mal would be interested in each other. Don't know why I was thinking he was 10 - that's what I get for reading too many BSC books in the last few weeks ;D Thanks, sotypical, for setting me straight.

lol, me too. Especially the Sea City scene. She stalks up to Dawn and is like "The pink towel is mine. The blue one is YOURS!" or something. Settle down, Boontsie!
Lawrenceville, right. Weird that it shows up later as the nearby town Stoneybrook plays against in Run For Your Money.

I didn't catch that Lawrenceville showed up again. What book is that in? Wonder why Toby wasn't there. That could have been an interesting plot...
