I've never read any of the Sea City books but I will have to get around to them eventually. From what I've read about Sea City on these boards it sounds a lot like the place where my family has a beach house. Mary Anne might like it because there's a grocery store named Bruno's close to our beach house.

I love the Sea City books, although they make me want to go to the beach every time I read them. I'd live by the ocean if I could.

I love the Sea City books! It sounds like such a beautiful and fun place to live. And I agree with starrynight, the food sounds so good!!
I wish they could've mentioned Trampoline Land (or whatever) in better detail. Growing up my best friend had a trampoline and I always wanted one so badly. I bet the Pikes could have had some funny adventures at Trampoline Land!

We had a trampoline when I was a kid. One time I was on there with a friend and fell off and got my hair caught in the springs which left me dangling in mid-air.

^Yeouch! That had to hurt. I never got to play much on a trampoline when I was little, but the few times I did were a lot of fun.

I love this book. It always makes me want to go to the beach. IIRC, this is the one where the Pikes want MA and Stacey to take their nights off separately so that they'd be guaranteed to have one of them there plus Mallory in case they felt like going out. I think that's kind of lame. Would it kill the Pikes to have two nights out of the entire two weeks where they didn't have their sitters available? What if the girls didn't have a date and wanted to go out on the town? Are they just supposed to go alone? How much fun would that be? But, I guess they didn't have to worry because of course they had dates lines up with their Sea City men.

Yeah, that bugged me. Yes, they hired Mary Anne and Stacey to work for them, but they're also only thirteen years old. The Pikes wouldn't think twice about either of the girls going off alone at night? No matter how safe a place they say Sea City is, it's still an irresponsible thing for them to do, as parents...

Yes, exactly. Even though MA and Stacey are their mother's helpers, the Pikes are still responsible for them and their safety on the trip.

^Yeouch! That had to hurt. I never got to play much on a trampoline when I was little, but the few times I did were a lot of fun. I was only on a trampoline once and that was my freshman year when my then best friend had one at her house and my friends and I played on it at her birthday party. However, I spent more time sitting indian style on it and bouncing up and down that way instead of standing up to bounce because the trampoline was on the pavement of her yard instead of the grass (her yard is pretty small, so I have no clue how she ended up with a trampoline in the first place ;D) and I didn't want to risk falling off and having to hit my head or any other part of my body on the pavement.

My only experiences with trampolines were in the couple years I took gymnastics lessons. It was fun but kind of scary because it was a bit high up and difficult to get onto.

I felt a little bad for Mary Anne in this book...
For starters, Stacey was a bit of a itch bay hockey stick! (I think you get what I am trying to say. She seemed as if she had quite the 'itch' in the book). If they agreed to go out ONE night a week, why does Stacey think she DESERVES two nights off and Mary Anne gets none?
Way to walk all over your friends, Stace. Especially the most sympathetic one out of the bunch. In a way, analyzing it, I felt maybe Stacey was trying to use Mary Anne's kindness against her. Of course she realizes what they did wrong and apologizes for it and they make up. In the end, it makes their relationship stronger.
Mary Anne also showed a lot of maturity and growth of character in this book, which I liked. She was able to put aside romantic feelings and be 'friends' with a boy (which, at 13, is a pretty big deal). She also helped Vanessa with her broken heart.

Stacey was a SLUNT in this book! I hated her... she was so rude and disrespectful. THE WORLD DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND YOU STACEY MCGILL!!!!!! Vanessa was really cute in this book... poor kid I hate how all these kids work... if Ann wanted to make the sitters have more serious boyfriends, and jobs and such, why not make them 16? It always baffeled me.

There must be something in the water in Sea City...Stacey becomes very self-absorbed while there. (Boy-Crazy, Too Many Boys, the Super Special)

Didn't Stacey pick a fight about towels in this one and in SS #10?
