I think a bikini is "harder to keep on" in the sense that I've never had to worry about a dress spontaneously leaving my body, like you might if you're wearing a string bikini and a wave comes! (If it's a true string bikini - tied with strings, rather than straps being one continual piece - that's definitely a risk.) LOL, maybe--that's happened to me before!

So I reread this again. Cause of Summer. Stacey was selfish, when she want to on another date. When she already went on a date night before. Stacey was thinking of herself, not Mary Anne. See, if she had plans that evening.
Mallory: "I told you I want sunscreen, not sunblock."
That still cracks me up, anytime, I read it.

I haven't read this one in awhile, but I feel the need too. I love all the Sea City books.

Just re-read this.
- I read that this is the bestselling book of the series, and if that's true, I wonder if AAM resents the accomplishment, since it was the first ghostwritten book (Mary Lou Kennedy)?
- Why does Claire eat her ice cream cone from the bottom up? Isn't she old enough to know how to properly eat one? I could see a toddler, who's having their very first cone, biting the tip of the cone, causing it to leak everywhere, but Claire is 5, and her family always stops at that specific HoJo's every summer on the way to Sea City, so she's had ice cream cones from there before, not to mention the Ice Cream Palace.
- How did Vanessa manage to sneak the letters to Ice Cream Palace, without anyone knowing? Wouldn't MA or Stacey notice her missing?
- How come this time MA and Stacey can't have the same night off together? That's how it was the previous summer (Boy-Crazy Stacey), when they went on that double date with Alex and Toby, and when MA helped Stacey pick out a gift for Scott, the lifeguard. What made the Pikes change the rules?
- Does Mallory talk in her sleep at other times in the series? That was funny but unrealistic if it hadn't happened before... or since.
- Totally agree how ridiculous to have a 12-year-old ice cream parlor attendant
- Also agree about it being unbelievable that Squirt was the one to put the two hamsters together; not only would that require him to have advanced motor skills for a 1 1/2-year-old, but Misty's cage was upstairs. I have nieces and nephews, and as one-year-old toddlers, they weren't yet able to climb up/down stairs, and when they eventually learned (after age 2) they used both hands to climb up, sort of like walking on four legs. So Squirt wouldn't have been able to climb upstairs even if he were holding Frodo with one hand and using the other free hand to aid his climb. Also, toddlers Squirt's age are not often gentle with small animals and need to be supervised. They squeeze too hard, and the hamster would've retaliated by biting Squirt. As a teenager, I had a hamster, and a couple times when I wanted to hold him and he kept trying to wriggle out of my hands, he bit me a couple times -- and it hurt like a mother!
- I was disappointed that we didn't get to see Kristy with Jenny Prezzioso; Kristy mentions 'glumly' in Chapter 1 that she is scheduled to sit for her; we all know that Kristy loathes Jenny and 10 books prior (Kristy and the Mother's Day Surprise) she expressed her disgust when Jenny's parents had signed her up for the Sudsy's Carnival outing ("Oh, ew! Ew, EW!"). Instead, we got another rehashed Rodowsky fiasco. I hate the Rodowskys, especially Jackie. CAN'T. STAND. HIM. In Chapter 1, Jessi mentioned that she was sitting for Charlotte Johanssen, so why did we get to see that (Chapter 12) and not Kristy/Jenny? Was there ever an instance when Kristy sat for her in detail?
- Lastly, I laughed when Mary Anne more or less called Stacey a sl*t:

I just reread this book last night. I didn't used to like it very much but this time I loved it. I don't know why the feeling changed. I considered this as like Boy-Crazy Stacey except with Mary Anne's POV. But there's a few differences between the two Sea City books. I noticed that the Pikes decided to go to Sea City at the beginning of the summer in June rather than the end of the summer in August. I'm glad Scott hadn't returned...that would've been interesting. Mallory was a mother's helper too, but I'm glad the Pike parents still let her have fun. Later in the series, she was practically a slave. I totally ship MA and Alex and Stacey and Toby together!! Especially MA and Alex. I wish they'd be a couple, but a long-distance relationship would be complicated. The boy who worked at Ice Cream Palace (Chris?) and Vanessa was sweet. Vanessa handled the situation very maturely for a nine year old. However, Mallory never knew Chris liked her... I LOVED the part where MA practically calls Stacey a sl*t when she mentions Stacey's boyfriends. She practically calls Claudia a h*e in Logan Likes Mary Anne! with the boys being in a bedroom. Stacey acted very selfish with the two dates in a row with Toby without even thinking of MA's dates with Alex. But I don't know why the Pike parents had a sudden change of rules: the girls only having 1 night off a week SEPARATELY. In Boy Crazy Stacey, they got to go out at the same time. Plus, wouldn't kill the Pike parents for then to take one night off at home to spend time with their kids?!

This book is one of my favorites. People have mentioned that Stacey is selfish, and that's true when she wanted to go off two nights in a row. But MA hadn't checked with Stacey about the nights off any more than Stacey had checked with her. She wasn't right to get so mad at Stacey for scheduling a date the first night when she (MA) was doing the same thing to Stacey! Middle school girls....

She wasn't right to get so mad at Stacey for scheduling a date the first night when she (MA) was doing the same thing to Stacey! Middle school girls.... While I agree that MA had no right to get mad at Stacey the first night, she definitely had reason to get mad at her the second night. After their disagreement over who could have Friday night off, Stacey's all, "Whatever, no big deal, just tell Alex you'll see him tomorrow night!" Then the next day, MA's getting ready, and Stacey's all, "lolz no, Toby and I had so much fun that I couldn't say no! I'm seeing him again tonight! Bye!" and peaces out.

I know this is out of the blue, but did anyone find it weird that Mary Anne decribed Jessi as a neat black girl? When I first read this book, I laughed aloud and shook my head at this.

Have to say I’m really surprised to read that this is the best-selling book of the series as to me MA seems out of character by even going on a *date* with another boy when she’s with Logan - she wouldn’t do that with anyone from SMS!

Why did Mr Schafer force Dawn to sit for kids that weren't even Carols?? Dawn doesn't even know Carol all that well and her father forced her to sit for them which was totally unfair. Dawn was meant to be on vacation.
Why on earth was Mary anne going on a date with Alex when she already has a boyfriend?

Why on earth was Mary anne going on a date with Alex when she already has a boyfriend? You could also ask "Why was Alex asking Mary Anne on a date when he already has a girlfriend?" Because, as we learn at the end of the book, Alex has a girlfriend at home.

^ Good question! I liked that they resolved to be friends but wish that would've happened sooner rather than later. But I guess it's possible that they just wanted to hang out as friends to begin with but didn't really understand that.
Overall, I really liked this book. I even enjoyed the baby-sitting chapters with the other girls. Kristy letting Jackie buy the food did seem strange but it was still funny, lol. I think there are times that we all do things without thinking about it first. That was definitely Kristy in this one.
The weirdest part of the book for me was Chris, a 12 year old working at the ice cream shop. So weird.

^ Maybe the ice cream shop was a family business so it wouldn't be completely strange that Chris is working there (it's been a while since I read the book so I maybe wrong on this).
