^ I thought the suggestion of getting underwear for the dance was from "Logan Likes Mary Anne." Did it happen in this book too?!?!

Sorry for double posting, but I'm rereading this one right now, and I realized something that I wanted to post about: this plot would never go over well today. I mean, with caller ID and everything, any criminal who tried something like this would be caught much quicker, which would make writing a book like this pointless. It kind of makes me sad, in a way, to think about how much things have changed just in the time since this book came out. I wonder what other BSC plots would be considered obsolete now?

I was wondering, is this the book where Kristy tells Rob Feldman, Jamie Newton's cousin, that she is going to 'punch his lights out' if he didn't listen? I remember Claud saying that Jamie was staring at his beloved Kristy in shock. I was much the same, so very shocked that Kristy would say that to a little kid! I mean, I might say that sometimes with the kids I was babysitting when they were like, 10, 11 (yes, they actually NEEDED sitters) but they knew that I was teasing, and harmless, because their mom and my mom are best friends.

Yes, I agree! I was extremely shocked when I read that. I mean, I'm sure that Kristy had no intentions of actually hitting him, but how was the kid supposed to know that? I can't remember how old he was... 8? And this was his first time meeting Kristy. I'm sorry, but if my child told me that his babysitter told him that, and I didn't know the sitters, like Mrs. Feldman didn't, I wouldn't allow that person to babysit my child again! Maybe I'm making a big deal, but it just always bugged me about this book.

Since we know Kristy would not say something like that to a little kid later on in the series, I think it's sort of funny.

Yeah it was extremely unprofessional and would have never happened in the later books.

But it was much more realistic, especially for the time period. Now I just need to find an example of someone talking on the phone for half the night. Most of my friends called me from wherever they were sitting, so I know I wasn't the only one.
Oh. Wait. Stacey v BSC.

^Claudia was on the phone with Stacey for awhile in this book, IIRC.

Nowadays most kids have their own cell phones, so if they were sitting they wouldn't have to worry about tying up their clients' phone line. Another thing that has changed since BSC.

Yeah, when I was growing up I was the only kid who had a cell phone. It was kind of useless, because it meant that my parents were alway checking up on me. I also remember car phones, and it took years before I could convince my parents to stop calling any cellular phone "the car phone". (Then again, sometimes my dad slips up and calls the cordless the "walking phone") Parents are weird.
