Just read this one again and Uncle Dandy always makes me laugh (but scares me at the same time ;D) I didn't think Rosie was that bad or that she even bragged that much. Show biz and the "language" were just common to her. I really felt for her, though, with her parents pushing her. I've given riding lessons to so many kids who were "living their parents' dream" and that's what this made me think of.

I own 2 copies of that book: 1 in French and the other in English. I just finished reading the English version. It's quite interesting. Claudia's books are quite hilarious, even though she isn't my favorite BSC character.

^ I never made that connection but now I see what you mean. That was a sad situation. Did Rosie's parents ever stop pushing her in the series?

They agreed to let Rosie only take two or three lessons that she really wanted to keep on with, and let her drop the rest. I think she ended up taking art and one of the musical instruments, and there might have been one other one...

^ Thanks. That's good they at least cut down on them and she got to choose art. I know they were against that (or I guess just against her drawing for fun) in this book.

I just reread this one (I had the day off so I read a ton of BSC books one right after the other - it was quite a pleasant and relaxing day!). Alan Gray annoyed me in this book. Putting gum all over the Kishi's garage floor so people could step in it was such a jerk thing to do. It sounds like something a bratty little kid would do, not a 13-year-old boy. (Although I know that 13-year-old boys can be incredibly immature, the drawings Alan was putting up seemed more like typical behavior from a guy that age than the gum did). Kristy whispered something to Claudia about plotting revenge at their next meeting, but no revenge was ever mentioned later on in the book. Too bad.

Was it ever really said why Alan was so obsessed with the BSC? You could say he liked Kristy so that's why he bugged her so much, but he did stuff to the other club members too. Did he like all of them? Did he want to be one of them? The mystery of Alan Gray.

Alan definitely liked Kristy, no question about that. But I think he also had just as much of a crush on Claudia.

Alan's obsession with the BSC girls was...interesting. I've never thought about him having a crush on Claudia. Also in this book - Janine is awesome yet again. When Jessi's sitting for Rosie, she has to call Janine and ask her to come help Rosie with her crossword clues. Jessi says that she knows Janine's helped Rosie before, and Janine replies, "I made what I considered a valiant attempt." That cracked me up. Janine is always such a good sister to Claudia and so nice to the rest of the BSC - she rules.

There are several instances in the regular series that make me think this, but this book and Stacey's Movie, specifically.

I mean, who would go through the trouble of putting on a prank that had you looking for your seat in the parking lot if he/she didn't have a crush on you.

i read this book for the first time, and maybe it's because i'm older now, but the whole thing seemed messed up. i couldn't believe how awful rosie was. for some reason i always pictured her the way she was in the movie -- quiet and sweet and fun. i can understand she probably feels alienated because she's smarter than everybody else, but that happens to janine and mallory too and neither of them turn around and chew everybody out. she was just straight up rude and there's never an excuse for that.
