Doesn't "ai" mean "love" in Japanese? Anyway, it's just an...okay book. Not one of the best, not one of the worst. I thought I was going to identify more with Rosie, as I was considered gifted as a little kid and therefore socially inept, but really, Rosie was nothing like me.

A few points:
I actually learned what Ai means from the anime Naruto.
Reading that there was a tuna sandwich in the fridge made me want to eat one. It also reminded me of when I ate it during my trips.
I ended up liking reading about Rosie's lessons.
I liked Janine in this book. She was really nice to help out the BSC when they were babysitting Rosie.
I like how the cover depicts what happened in the book when Janine came over while Claudia was babysitting the first time.
Overall, this is a book I wouldn't reread often since it didn't capture my interest that much.

Reading that there was a tuna sandwich in the fridge made me want to eat one. The tuna was in a bowl and they had scoops on lettuce as snacks.

This book hasn't received any love in a while! One thing that bothered me this time was Alan's ruining Claud's art show. I'm surprised no adults told him to piss off! I just felt it was beyond disrespectful, and also weird considering they get together in the FF series. I also thought it was pretty major that Claud puts on her own show, even if it's in her own backyard.

This was OK, it felt a little forced that Rosie couldn't relate to the other sisters (including Stacey and Jessi). It was both funny and weird that "sophisticated" Stacey pretty much fell apart at trying to read from a script.

I agree about Uncle Dandy giving a real 'creepy vibe' and liking how Janine played a major role in helping Rosie with all her stuff. I also like the art show at the end as well.
One thing that also stood out to me; re-reading this book recently just reminded me how "primitive" life was before the internet and you couldn't just look up random stuff up. I googled "Do foxes hibernate" after reading that chapter where Rosie asks Janine about that.

Speaking of primitive, I love when Claud has that trouble taping the show she wants to watch on the VCR!

I think Rosie didn't actually seem like a genius, just gifted-mostly with regard to the arts. Although I guess if people realized that earlier the plot would be a lot shorter and simpler or alternately different and more complex.

I think Rosie didn't actually seem like a genius, just gifted-mostly with regard to the arts. An interesting point - at the end of the book, Rosie's parents let her cut down her activities to three - one performing arts, one creative, and one intellectual. Rosie still shows her capabilities as both a performer and a genius, but puts her energy into just one thing. What I'm saying, though, is that there are instances where Rosie shows that she is extremely intelligent. Like that crossword challenge, when Rosie was the youngest competitor and still won, even though people were being mean about her. That raises a point - would Rosie get along with Charlotte? She's a little younger, but from what I remember, Charlotte was treated that way before she skipped a grade, so they'd understand each other. On that last note, about how Rosie chooses to cut down on her activities - does that mean she finally has time to make friends? I got the feeling that she was always too busy to have friends, possibly contributing to her problems with her classmates. I don't know...did Rosie show up enough later on so we could find out how she was doing? I remember Claudia mentioning in one book that Rosie was one of her favourite charges, but that was about it.

Yeah, I wish they had followed up on Rosie in another book. They gave Danielle another book, and she wasn’t a very memorable character to me.

My take on it was that Rosie was too busy for everything, so cutting down her activities meant she had enough time to do them all. Not that she would have free time. Maybe that's a pessimistic take but I don't get the sense that her parents valued friendships much or made an effort to let her be a regular kid.

^ No, her parents definitely didn't want to let Rosie be a kid. When they found out she was interested in art, you could just see the dollar signs in their eyes. Really sad that they treated Rosie that way but kind of realistic I guess. I'm surprised they even let Rosie cut down on her activities at the end.
I actually really enjoyed this book. I liked seeing Claudia work on such a specific art project throughout the book and how everything came together with the "gallery" showing at the end. I also liked how they sprinkled in a little Kristy/Claudia interaction at the beginning. Those are two characters that don't get a lot of time or attention so it was nice to see Kristy being so supportive of her art. I also liked how Janine was brought into the plotline. She seemed to shy but so sweet in her scenes here. She even made a few jokes. lol.
I liked seeing the slow bond between Claudia and Rosie. It's too bad that she didn't really get anymore time after this one. I think she's an interesting kid. It was kind of sad how focused she was on her "career" and how she didn't really want to interact with any of the other kids at the Uncle Dandy show. That has to be a lonely life for her.
