Just read this book last night. I think it's dumb that they had Claudia write on the friendship poster rules thing in cursive. Any good baby-sitter knows that most 6-year-olds can't read cursive!
The miscarriage was sad. I knew that Peaches had a baby in a later book, so I just assumed this was the start of that.

I would have loved to see what her blanket sketch looked like
Also, a lot of the things she and peaches did sounded like fun, especially the gourmet dinner and being at pizza express

I don't like how Mrs. Kishi blamed Claudia for eating pizza with Peaches at midnight. Aunt Peaches should've left a note, letting everyone know where they were going to be. I don't think Peaches should've quit her job so early in her pregnancy; she should've worked for a few more months before quitting work so she could get ready for when her baby arrives.
I did feel bad for Peaches when she had her miscarriage. I can't and don't want to imagine what it'd be like to lose a child.

^I think Mrs. Kishi had every right to be upset with Claudia. Claud's old enough to know that you don't take off at midnight without leaving a note for your parents, even if you ARE with a relative. Yes, Peaches should have been more responsible as well, but I don't think Claudia was completely innocent.

This isn't related so much to this book, but I figured I might as well put it here anyway since I happen to be reading this thread. The other day I was thinking that it's pretty weird that we never hear about Peaches and Russ calling the BSC for a sitter for Lynn, and that Claudia barely mentions her at all after #97.

^Wow, you're right. It's like the three of them disappeared or were one book (in their case, 2 book)? characters. :/ Only thing I can think of is unlike the Prezziosos and Newtons, perhaps Russ and Peaches wanted to wait until Lynn was older before leaving her in the hands of a 13 or 11 year old. Realistic and lol could have made for an "interesting" exchange with the BSC.

It could have been interesting if they wanted Claudia and only Claudia to sit for her and Kristy threw a fit about the club rules of offering jobs around. Those rules changed from book to book for plot purposes anyway, but I'm thinking of Jessi and the Bad Babysitter where Kristy wanted Wendy (was that her name?) to offer around the job she had gotten of watching her neighbor's kid who presumably didn't know any of the others. Would Claudia defend her right to sit for her own cousin?
Also this book always, always makes me have "That's Amore" running through my head for about two weeks after I read it because of the scene where Claudia and Peaches sing it while cooking.

I LOVE reading about the dinner they make! I've always been big on the food scenes in the BSC world, and that was a good one.

I agree that Claudia isn't completely innocent and that Peaches should've been more responsible. But I think that Peaches should've been held slightly more accountable than Claudia.

^ i disagree. i think claudia had every right to trust her aunt, and mrs kishi shouldn't have punished claudia. i don't think claudia was being irresponsible when she left her home with an adult (a family member at that) when she already had that adult's approval and supervision.

I still feel both of them (Peaches, being the adult, moreso) were irresponsible. I haven't read this one in a while and don't remember the convo between C and P other than that C had been sleeping and offerred to make her Aunt her a sandwich. I do recall some hesitation on C's part, just not if she brought up what if her parents wake up.
I can understand Claudia (for once she acted like a young teen)!, having slight misgivings, probably instinctively knowing going with Peaches was wrong, especially without leaving a note, but maybe she secretly did want pizza and/or felt going might bond her and Peaches even more. In fact, the latter could be the answer. Peaches was one of the few people Claudia felt "got her" and she didn't want to do anything that might alter that.
If nothing else, Peaches should have left a note. In this instance the so-called "strict" Kishis' would have had every right to have been much more upset than they were.

peaches should have left the notes or woken someone up to tell them, I'm almost in my 30's and still at home, yet if I leave the house at any hour, day or night, out of courtesy I always say where I'm going

^ITA Supprazz. I think the fact that Peaches was pregnant should have been further reason to have left a note.
