Sari doesn't even look related to them Anyone ever notice how it looks like Abby has some gray hair? I always loved her outfit, and wished she was drawn wearing her father's watch like in the book.

Hannie also looks a bit odd. She looks like Punky Brewster and/or East Asian.

I dunno my niece is only two and has hair that long and thick Since she was one and a half... so it can be a real toddler. I think Sari and Pat the Cat look weird on this cover...Sari's hair is way too long and thick for a toddler! She looks like she has an adult's head and a toddler's body. And Pat's head looks strangely tiny compared to the rest of his body. Also - the Papadakises went with a primary blue, red and yellow theme for the couch? That's pretty ugly. One of my cats has that little pea head, big butt body going on. ;D I like Abby's outfit (more feminine than what I picture her looking), but her necklace looks like a noose.

Abby looks really fashionable on the cover, which is interesting because that's not something that was ever picked up on in the series. She traded in her tights and short dresses for more athletic apparel. Although I think her style is interesting here, especially her accessories -- that knotted (pearl?) necklace with the brooch. Kind of like combining vintage and new styles together.

I thought her style was very cute too on the cover and remember some of them at the time.

I didn't like that Kristy was worried how Abby's asthma would affect her baby sitting. I mean she wasn't worried how Stacey's diabetes would affect her baby sitting.
And Hannie is certainly old enough not to run into the street. Stupid girl.

That's a silly comment. I don't look a thing like my family but I'm def related to them. You don't have to look like your family.

Anyone ever notice how it looks like Abby has some gray hair? Yes! It's the only way to show texture in black hair, but it makes her look old. My hair in pictures just looks like a black void.

This was a weird book for me. The parts about the Stevenson family were really well-done in my opinion and I actually teared up a couple of times- my brother was killed the same way back in 2010 so it hits too close to home. My family kind of had the opposite reaction though- I think we grew closer. It's really sad that they seen so distant (and no, not distant as in chilly or cool lol). It is really nice how they seem closer by the end, and I 100% relate to Abby's anxiety about the train. I totally freak out if people are late, and not in a Kristy way, more like a "I thought you were in an accident" way. I hope they can grow closer and maybe Mrs. Stevenson can work a little less.
Tbh, I'm not understanding why they live in such a big house. Not so much finances-wise... Mrs. Stevenson's job seems to pay super well and I'm guessing she might have had an inheritance from Mr. Stevenson'a death. But other than that, it doesn't make sense to me and feels more like a plot device to have Kristy as a neighbor (also, for some reason I remember Abby living across the street from Kristy, not 2 houses down). They definitely don't need that much space and it seems like the house would feel so lonely (Abby does seem a bit lonely to me), plus it seems like they're barely home.
All this said, I like Abby and think she has a unique voice compared to the other BSC members. Her observations of the other club members are pretty interesting, although being so new, I'm surprised she knows as much as she does. Also, she basically calls Claudia and Stacey "babes." Interesting.
I do think she should have had her inhaler on her at that sitting job, especially considering her allergies were already acting up. But it's an honest mistake. I can't decide if I'm annoyed with Kristy's reaction or if I understand it. Probably somewhere in between.
I like Abby's outfit on the cover. Her fashion sense was never explicitly stated. I think a lot of fans assume she dresses sporty all the time, similar to Kristy, and in later books she wears socks with sandals. Idk.
So the reason this book is weird is that parts of it are honestly very good- it's really interesting to read about Abby getting used to the Brook and the club, and about her family (plus it's actually very emotional), but the subplot STINKS. It is so boring to read about the carnival prep and I think at one point there are three chapters in a row dedicated to it. I do think they had good ideas (Abby's was really good), but omg there was way too much time devoted to it. I would've preferred a chapter dedicated to Abby adjusting at SMS and sitting with the BSC at lunch (or trying to decide if she's going to sit with them or at another table, kind of a callback to the early 7th grade books when the BSC didn't all sit together), and maybe seeing how she interacts with characters like Cokie and Alan Gray. But no, we get boring carnival crap. Blah. It's for a good cause and all, but that's not always fun to read about.
I do think the chapters actually taking place at the carnival are better, though, especially the Saturday one with the Stevensons reuniting (that one was actually really good). But yeah, I think at this point in the series there are way too many big events.
I am so excited to read the 90s books. Up until this point in the main series, I think I've only come across one or two books that I never read. But in the 90s, there are 4 (#91, 92, 94, and 97). Even if they aren't great, I'm so excited! Not looking forward to Memory Garden, though... another drunk driving accident. Idk how I'm going to get through Abby's Book (that's a bit further down the line, though).

I'm sorry about your brother.
I think Mrs. Stevenson picked a big house because Long Island is expensive and she could afford a big house in Stoneybrook. One of her daughters was an athlete so a big yard (more than a big house) might have been the goal.

One of her daughters was an athlete so a big yard (more than a big house) might have been the goal. Thank you. Maybe. It just seems so lonely. A house on Burnt Hill Road kind of makes more sense... seems like a neighborhood with big yards and is closer to SMS (I know that if you go to a school technically out of your district there's a fee... not a huge one, but still. Although it's definitely lower than private school fees). Maybe it's not as big as Watson's house? I always just assumed it had like 9 bedrooms like his house did, which felt very extra to me. It is cool for Kristy to have another friend in her neighborhood either way (although by this point in the series it seems that she's fully adjusted to it).
