I forgot to mention this in my previous post, but I love how one of the things Claudia wants in her perfect boy is MUSCLES. What 13 year old boy actually has muscles?! And Liss, I also noticed the pink mix-up!

^ She also spells it "mussels" which seriously cracks me up!

^ She also spells it "mussels" which seriously cracks me up! Me too! I totally require my potential dates to be well-supplied with bivalve mollusks! (Okay, the first time I typed that, I went too fast and wrote "well-suppled," which is both kind of funny and very creepy, in a cheesy romance novel kind of way. Or maybe I'm not getting nearly enough sleep).

What Claud doesn't realise, even though she does call herself Choosy But Fair is that... well I don't know anyone who would match her descriptions for a boyfriend, she is enormously too picky. ESPECIALLY someone who is 13, I don't think anyone of those descriptions at 13 would even exist.

^ I can't say much about this (except that Claud should realize she is picky) because I have an even longer, more rigid list. Of course, that is probably why I'm still single since that "perfect" guy doesn't exist at any age (especially 13

^ I'm another one that made an actual list of things that I wanted in a guy. Then, I realized that even WITH the list, something still seemed to be missing, so I chucked it and figured I'd know when and if the right person came along. So...I don't really have a list anymore. I just know I want someone who isn't TOO odd. I can identify with Claud, though...I was like her when it came to having a definite idea of what I wanted when I was her age!

I could make a list of all the qualities I wanted in a person...and the person I currently like (who doesn't like me back *emo* ) is...basically the complete opposite of the list I would have made.
Just goes to show, they're useless. But if it had occurred to me at age thirteen, I probably would have done the same thing.

ITA, mckay. I'm sure if I had a list of "perfect guy" qualities and I compared my boyfriend to them, he wouldn't match up. Some things like religious belief or non-belief, wanting kids or not wanting kids, etc.. major things like that, I can understand having specific requirements about. But Claudia was so nit-picky with all her stuff about "a good listener, but still likes to talk...but doesn't talk TOO much!"

LOL! At 13, Claudia would be lucky to get a boy who would actually admit to be dating her in front of his friends! At that age, I remember it being a huge deal to ask someone to dance at the school dance, or to be seen sitting with them at lunch or something...
But, alas. I forget that Claudia's really 30. ;D

About the whole tattoo thing: There's ways that people can do tats in really ghetto, unsafe, and illegal ways. I know this because my cousin once did a tat by herself with ink from a regular pen and a needle and thread, and another cousin (who was in prison and probably learned how to do it there) did a tat in a similar way. It is so ridiculous that a 13 year old in fairy tale Stoneybrook would have a tattoo, but I HAVE worked with a 14 year old who has a tattoo, so in my opinion it's far-fetched but it happens. FYI, I have a tattoo, but I got it done legally. Just my 2 cents....

On the topic of the tattoo, I knew a girl who actually got one done at thirteen, but she was living in Venezuela for a few months when she got it, so maybe the kid got it done somewhere out of the country? Unlikely, but possible.

hmmmmm it is very possible re: tattoo that the ghostwriter just didn't do the proper research. shocking, i know my list of wants in a significant other changes with the guy i'm dating... but i do have a few requirements ie: no heroin addictions, past or present.

It's funny how picky Claudia is with her list and all, and then she settles for Mark later...

^ ;D I was thinking the same thing. Maybe "luv" is blind??? ;D I have to laugh at the list because I have a similarly long one (though not with the same requirements), which is probably why I am still single. ;D I like the main plot of this book but don't care much for the subplot. I do feel for the Barretts, though, especially Marnie.

I liked reading all the descriptions in this book of the dates and all.
Was Brian really dull or was Claudia picky about the type of "art" he liked? Maybe he got really shy and she was too hard on him?
Also for someone who's supposed to be artistic, it was so weird how she was grossed out by rock's tattoo which I thought sounded cool.
