I think he was boring in the way that someone with whom you have zero chemistry is boring.

I would have liked to read about her date with Kurt, it was briefly mentioned at the end with something about video games, but that's it. I guess that would have been the guy on the cover.

^ I agree, I was surprised that date wasn't covered. I actually didn't mind Claud's outfit on the front cover. Claud does seem quite unlucky in love in the middle of the series. Early and later on it's boyfriend after boyfriend.
I also like it when minor characters from SMS are mentioned, preferably ones who are mentioned again though. And sucks they just forgot about Claud's work on the newspaper later on.

Yeah and her WSTO work too, I found it interesting how she was good at radio and working on the paper, though she couldn't spell for her life.

just reread and something caught my attention. on page 121 stacey is making fun of rock because his name sounds like "large stone." but what exactly does she think pierre means? she certainly had no problem with him.

Not one of my favorite books either. I always choke up a little when Mal says "You're staying here, Pow. This is your home now." I thought the "Ceremony" was very sweet but that Mrs. Barrett should have been there. Though possibly in a way her absence maybe made it easier on Buddy and Suzi. ITA, though, it was ridiculous how "suddenly" Marnie became allergic to Pow. I wonder if the Pikes' would have gotten a dog if Pow had not been available? I would have liked to have read about them adopting a dog. I admit to never being a fan of Shannon's family breeding Astrid but know that is just me

Maybe she thought the name Pierre sounded good enough that she could overlook that Pierre means "stone." Or maybe she thought that not everyone knew what the name Pierre means, so she doesn't have a problem with the name.

I am re-reading and still not a fan. I do remember at 13-14 thinking it would be awesome to have a boyfriend (period) and one who I really liked so I'd probably have tried an "ad" myself. ITA that like the cheerleading/sports, SMS sure is big on dating/matching people up.
Someone posted up thread about the quick (possibly rash, also) way the Barretts got rid of Pow. First of all, it was so hard to believe that after 6 years of our knowing Marnie (this book started at the very beginning of 8th grade, year 6, so I'm counting 1 year of 7th and 5 of 8th), Marnie suddenly develops such a severe allergy to poor Pow.
Sharon could have become allergic to Tigger. Think of it. Dawn recently moved back to CA (1st time) and now MA is faced with giving up Tigger. Or if not allergic, maybe she still feels uncomfortable around him. I know, all you Tigger and cat fans, that is mean. It is true I neither like cats nor Tigger but wouldn't the above have been more realistic than poor Marnie being dealt the Pow hand? I think so.

I agree she was really picky, like another poster said. I remember her even judging what the guys ate for lunch, with Brian at least though it was just a healthier fast food meal than what she was having.

It is true I neither like cats nor Tigger but wouldn't the above have been more realistic than poor Marnie being dealt the Pow hand? I think so. I don't think Sharon suddenly developing an allergy after 40+ years is more realistic than a toddler developing one. Heck, Marnie could have had problems for a long time that Mrs. Barrett was too oblivious to notice until they got more severe. Sharon pet Tigger one time that I can remember, so I don't think she really warmed up to the little guy. She learned to co-exist with him. Zoar3, do you have a cat phobia? Your disdain for them is so strong that you often try to eliminate them from storylines. Like, dang, you can't even get through a few pages of cat story without it annoying you. That's hardcore hatred.

i get that going to an arcade on a date sucks, but i'm surprised that claudia doesn't like video games more. it's like an interactive mystery.
