Dawn didn't FORCE Mary Anne to share a room with her. I'm pretty sure they decided together it would be super fun.
Sorry sotypical, I was in an overdramatic mood ;D But Dawn did admit that MA didn't seem keen on sharing a room and that she had pushed her into it.

I must've missed that part, liss. I didn't mean to sound so harsh I don't think the club members really took sides, aln. Kristy and MA started hanging out a lot more, though.

I think I am on Team Dawn in this book. The "fat" comment was just too low for me to take Mary Anne's side! I can't think of ANY reason why Mallory should have had to ask Claudia's permission to take a bath. Give her a heads up? Yes. But ask permission? No way! And it was really weird when Claudia told her no... If it was because she wanted Mal to be available in case of an emergency she should have said so. I liked reading about Kristy and Jessi helping out at the Pike's house that one Saturday. They are kind of a random pairing and it was fun to read about them making breakfast & lunch and doing the laundry. I also loved when Dawn went to Kristy for advice about MA and Richard. I thought it was nice that Dawn didn't take her fight with MA out on MA's other bff. And loved when they caught Sharon sitting on the couch with Tigger asleep on her lap at the end.

^ Kristy and Jessi is an interesting pairing. I like both of them so that would be fun to read. Also agree that it is nice for Dawn to go to Kristy for advice. I might have to reread this one as I obviously don't remember it at all. ;D Also agree hitzpink that the fat comment just about made me side completely against MA. It seemed pretty uncharacterisitic for someone who is supposedly so "sensitive"

I know that the BSC are "mini-adults" and they know the Pikes really well... but I still found it really weird that the Pikes hire them to look after the whole bloody family, including themselves! All (except Mallory) bedridden! Mr Pike had only burned one hand, why did he have to be in bed? He could have helped the girls somehow... I mean I'd feel kind of embarrassed if I were the Pike parents and my 13 year old and 11 year old babysitters were doing my housework and serving me breakfast and later dinner (I think) in bed. Don't the Pikes have adult friends who could do that?

Isn't DAWN always described as skinny Most of the vegetarians I know aren't, but then again Dawn ate nothing but health food. I think that was just Mary Anne being biotchy.

I agree it was weird to have the girls watch their whole family. I mean honestly some of those illnesses were grossly exaggerated.

liss, I totally agree with you about the Pikes hiring the girls to help out! That was really weird, and I would be embarrassed too. Don't they wonder what Kristy and Jessi's parents thought?! It was just one more thing to make me dislike Mr. and Mrs. Pike.

I really liked Dawn and Kristy’s talk in this one. Just wish Dawn would have gone away from it with the good advice/insight and decided to talk things out with MA instead of trying to scare her into giving up the room. That was so mean and foolish, I think. She should have just talked about things with her. But I think that’s where a lot of Dawn and MA’s problems come from is that neither one of them seem very willing to rationally talk things out and tell the other one how they are really feeling. For some reason, I liked the “Pike plague” subplot this time. I thought it was kind of funny how Mr. Pike was trying to take care of everyone and ended up burning his hand. ;D

I enjoyed the subplot as well, but I agree that it was pretty unrealistic and exaggerated.

The whole fight MA and Dawn had about music while studying would have never happened today, because Dawn would have an iPod. ;D
When I was a kid my favorite part of this book was when Dawn scares MA in the passage. I totally wanted a secret passage I could creep around in.

Why didn't Dawn have a walkman, though?

Good question! I seem to remember Stacey having one - in Welcome Back Stacey she mentions that she's going to keep her Walkman at her dad's new apt. in NYC. Okay, why do I remember all these minute details?

That's weird that she would keep her walkman in the place where she spends less time. It seems to be the kind of thing you'd want to keep with you. I couldn't imagine leaving my ipod at a place where I only spend every other weekend. I think this has always puzzled me.

But I think that’s where a lot of Dawn and MA’s problems come from is that neither one of them seem very willing to rationally talk things out and tell the other one how they are really feeling. I took Dawn scaring M.A. differently. I took it as one of those things that you do, not necessarily to avoid the conflict of discussion, but as a way so that M.A. would have an "easy out". This way neither of them had to admit that it didn't work out. I figured that Mary Anne knew, or figured out that Dawn was behind the "ghost", but she wanted out just as bad. It just didn't bother me much. I liked the subplot in this book a lot when I was a kid. I don't like it as much now, because it's SO unrealistic, and weird that the Pikes would have the BSC take care of them all. But I still like it better then other ones. -- like Jamie learning to ride his bike.
