This is actually one of my favorite Mal books. I liked that she learned to appreciate her big, crazy family once she had some time to herself. And that she talked to her parents after Mary Anne advised her to. Going on strike was a bit melodramatic but this is Mal we're talking about. lol. And she's a pre-teen. I think all the BSC takes things too seriously for their age, it's kind of their thing. I think she loosened up there at the end though. And I thought her reaction to winning was realistic, she couldn't believe it was her name they were calling. I'd probably react the same way. And it isn't a surprise that Jessi got roped into the Pikes special day, she's kind of a part of the family and Jessi/Mal were always written together. They're probably the closest friends in the club. They rarely fight unlike the older girls.

I've always liked this one, but then again, I think Mallory books are the most underrated (at least the earlier books... I've liked all of them so far).
I picture Teddy Roosevelt when Mal describes Mr. Dougherty for some reason.
I do think that her parents ask too much of her. Them asking to clean up Byron's spill was completely ridiculous. He should be able to do that on his own.
That being said, honestly, Mallory should have just ASKED her parents to ease up on her so she could work on the story and her homework. Later in the story they definitely give her space. She should've talked to Kristy about taking a leave of absence as well, but I can understand being intimidated by her. Still, at the end, everyone was very understanding of her needing more time to herself. I guess it's pretty realistic behavior for an 11-year-old.
I kind of expected more of a fight between Mal and Jessi because Jessi laughed at "Mean, Old Mallory." But nothing really came of it.
I've watched a ton of really gruesome horror movies and can handle intense stuff, but Buddy's foot made me cringe for some reason. Ouch. I remember Mrs. Barrett getting mad at Mal, but she doesn't. I kind of wish she did, because then she'd have more of a reason to blow up at the meeting and threatening to quit in the next chapter.
I don't know why they're all so grossed out by eels. I no longer eat meat (and yes Dawn seafood is meat), but when I did, I enjoyed sushi and unagi is SO GOOD. Probably terrible for you because it's extremely high fat, but yeah, it was delicious. It really does taste buttery. The BSC aren't exactly adventurous eaters, are they? I mean they're grossed out by tofu, one of the least offensive foods on the planet. Oh well, rant over lol. I could see why they'd think it's funny, and they are only 13 and 11. They act so mature most of the time that it really stands out when they don't.
I thought this one had We Love Mallory Day. It doesn't. I wonder which book has that. Also, when does Stacey and Mal's towel code appear? I thought it was #28, but unless I missed it, it's not there.

Eels feel like snakes to me, even though I know they are fish. I wouldn't eat either of them.
