I was always closer to my mom's mom too than my other grandparents and like sweetvalley said it was not because I did not love them, it was because my mom's mom was the one I saw the most of and the one who I felt most comfortable talking to. I lost her shortly after I was 19. I knew I would not be able to cope with her death unless I was there with her when she did, and so I held her hand and told her how beautiful she was right until the end. I miss her terribly but I can understand Mimi and Claudia's bonding because of my relationship with my grandmother. Claudia felt that Mimi was the only one in her family who really understood her and Mimi knew that Claudia needed her.

FUnny that Ann calls the game, The Trivia Game, when it's clearly supposed to be Trivial Pursuit. Again with the made-up cultural references.

^ Maybe the Trivia Game is a real game in the world of the BSC. ;D

Maybe the makers of Trivial Pursuit didn't want their trademarked board game mentioned in a book, for whatever reason.

^ That's a definite possibility. I would guess it was something like that or Ann didn't want to bother checking on the trademarks, etc. How does that work, anyway? Does she have to get permission from other ones?

I'm not sure, now that I think about it. Remember in LS when Karen would either have Crispy Crunchies or Oatie O's? I used to think that they were our version of Cap'n Crunch and Cheerios ;D.

In the UK version of the book, they do call it Trivial Pursuit.

And they do so in the Finnish translation as well.

I remember that but I always assumed it was Krispy Krunchies and Rice Krispies. Might be wrong, though. For some reason, that always bothered me, as did making up names for other stuff. Not sure why the Trival Pursuit didn't bother me - maybe because I just didn't catch on at first as I never play or think about that game. ;D

I do think her big-word way of talking was a bit overdone in this book.

I love Janine in this book! I think her big word way of talking is actually quite common among a certain group of high school/college students. (at least it was). I wish she would have turned down the pretentiousness a bit when she was at home, but it was probably the fact that she IS 16. She probably thought if she used big words around her sister, then Claudia would learn the words, instead of turning her off to learning. Just my take though.

the bsc eats rice krispies fairly frequently so i think it just depended on the writer. fake stoneybrook products are fun.

Claudia didn't talk like she was stupid and I think she just really sold herself short because she was smarter than she let on. I think Janine saw her potential and wanted to help her recognize it. I'll have to reread this one soon as I always get it confused with Sad Goodbye.
