Yeah, absolutely. And I've always loved the very back to school feel of this book.

Rereading this book now, I thought it was really sweet! I've never felt particularly for or against Mary Anne/Logan, but this book made me like them. I guess I prefer seeing them as cute 13-year-olds getting to know each, rather than the de facto middle-aged couple they turn into later in the series.
Rereading some of the earlier books now, I'm noticing that a lot of them have baby-sitting chapters that have absolutely no relation to the plot whatsoever (for example, this book has a chapter where Claudia baby-sits for Myriah and Gabbie, and Chewy runs away and steals a bunch of orange construction cones). It feels weird.
Also, this book has what I think is my favorite quote from the whole series: "Claudia had almost said bra strap in front of a boy." OMG!
Speaking of which, this book discusses boobs and bras more than any other BSC book I can remember...first they talk about how Cam Geary's girlfriend has such big boobs, then Mary Anne talks about getting her first bra (and Kristy is now the only member who doesn't wear one), and then Claudia almost commits the unforgivable sin of saying bra strap in front of a boy!

i think this book does the best job of saying what it's like to have a crush at that age. i remember getting nervous and overanalyzing everything i did, even when i started dating my current boyfriend, at 17. one day at lunch he let me try a bite of his food, and i still have the spork :]
i really like the combiniation of MA and logan. they seem to compliment each other because they have what the other one doesn't have. he's popular and outgoing and has lots of friends, and she's sweet and insightful and dependable. i agree, celaeno, they become very boring and middle-agey towards the end of the series. stacey always made a point to say that robert always gave her butterflies, no matter how long they had been together, and i feel like MA and logan didn't have that spark towards the end. but in the beginning they were very sweet.

Just finished a re-read and doing so makes me want to go back to #1 instead of forward to #11 with poor Louie. :'/ ITA that this book did a great job of introducing Logan/MA. I thought their relationship sounded very sweet not at all like in "years" to come. Good point Old Hickory.
Lol to the comments on Richard readily agreeing to Logan but not Tigger. (Always knew I liked Richard. I am not a cat person or fan.) I did like when he said to MA that perhaps they should have gotten a pet earlier. Wasn't it odd, even in Stoneybrook-land that Richard didn't have to come into the Shelter at all?
Question about Chewy and the orange cones. We are told the Perkinses backyard is completely fenced in. Claudia and Gabbie take him for a walk to meet Myriah's bus. Therefore, unless he jumped the fence or managed to "open" the gate or the front door, how did he get back into the yard?
One other "pet" comment. Claudia says she wishes her family had a dog. Apparently Stacey (prequel) also wanted one and didn't Stacey sometime later wish for one of Astrid's puppies or am I making that up?

I often wondered why the Kishis didn't have a pet. They seem like cat or small non-athletic dog type people. Although a dog would probably get into some chocolate bars in Claudia's room and die, making Claudia feel guilty about yet another family tragedy.

^aww! Sadly, I could see this happening. I never really pegged the Kishis as petowners anyway. They all seem too busy with their lives and their other hobbies/focuses, but maybe they could've been goldfish type people?
I can't remember them ever mentioning bras much after this either. I think it's funny that the one meeting Logan attends, they have trouble straying away from this topic. Aren't most of the BSC meetings more business-like anyway, since Kristy is in charge?
I love how Mary Anne dresses up for Logan's first meeting too, thinking that she doesn't look that much different than usual and all the other girls all notice right away.
Also, the friendship progression with the BSC was really sweet when Claudia and Stacey decide to start sitting at the BSC lunch table. It was funny how Mary Anne says it was awkward at first because no one at the table wanted to mention the change out loud and she tries to steer the conversation away from Kristy's food topics so they'll stay.

I'm pretty sure this is the first MA book I read as a kid, and can only assume this is what began the lifelong MA love. This is still one of my favorites. In the beginning, Logan was so great. I never questioned that he'd be attracted to MA. He seemed like, despite being instantly popular and lusted after by every girl at SMS, he also had this shy and sincere side that was drawn to a girl like MA. I'm sure it's the dope romantic in me that loves the beginning of that relationship. I have to agree with other posters who've said that they weren't that annoying, practically married entity that they became. And Logan wasn't the bossy and controlling ass he became. Also, I love the sound of the famous cities skirt.

^ I agree about how nice the beginning of their relationship was. I totally wanted that to happen to me when I was 13!

I wish Logan stayed sweet like he did in this book, he turned into such a controlling and possessive jerk.

That, too, Supprazz. Although, to be fair, Mary Anne sure changed herself.

She looks like she smoking on the cover...my cousin thought she was holding a cigarette back in the day lmao!
Yes Mary Anne changed, cause she was tired of being a pushover.
