I was just thinking about this book the other day. I remember being annoyed as a kid that the Ramseys acted like getting a pool was a ridiculous idea. But then I grew up with a pool in the backyard,we all pitched in to take care of it, and it wasn't that big of a deal.

^I grew up with a pool too. I don't remember the Ramseys acting like getting a pool was a ridiculous idea. I think I need a reread.

I haven't read it in a while either, but I remember Aunt Cecelia "snorting" or something when Jessi and Becca bring up the idea, and Mr. Ramsey starts saying how much work a pool would be, blah, blah. Like I said, a pool takes some work, but it's not like it consumes your life!

Other than the Delaney's, did anyone else have their own pools? Is that some Stoneybrook elite thing?

I think Shannon might have, but I'm not sure. Maybe that's something I read in a fanfic.

I don't know many people who have their own pools. I'm sure some can afford them, but there's not a ton of yard room. Around here you can have a pool or you can have a lawn, but you can't really have both. Anyway, in my mind a pool is a luxury that not that many families have, but I'm sure it's pretty common to have one in certain areas of the country.

My aunt has a huge pool at her house and one of my mom's friends has a pool, but I don't know many other people that have them (at least not big ones).

So do I. That's why I was laughing when I read the part about Mr. Ramsey saying that the pool would take a lot of work. I mean it takes work yes, but not overbearingly hard work. It's so fun to have a pool, no one in my house even cares that we have to work on it .

I didn't mind this book, but agree one book after 'dream horse' it was a bit "Again? Seriously!!" for me. It escapes me after Elise and Jessi go on and on about how they're the worst in the class, they win the bloody gold! (But with that title and knowing the BSC, could there really have been any other outcome?)
I found it a little amusing that Jessi dreams up the mini olympics for Becca and she's not even interested in participating! And I like Mary Anne finding a way she can join in without having to compete.

I finally enjoyed a backyard pool for 3-4 years when my family lived in a house. I, too, don't quite understand why maintaining a pool is "such hard work." The Ramsey's could have also hired someone to take care of it for them or at least to drain/refill, massively clean it, would be done for them.
I think Watson mentioned (or Kristy told us he had said) he was going to put in a pool now that Karen and Andrew were older. Too bad he never did. Other than the Delaney's, the only specific family I remember having a pool were the Millers' also mentioned in Poor Mallory! Otherwise it was simply said that a lot of people in Kristy's neighborhood had them. Have no idea if Shannon did or not.
This book itself, was another dull, dreary, Jessi tale. Lol, sugarandspice, "but agree one book after 'dream horse' it was a bit "Again? Seriously!!" for me. It escapes me after Elise and Jessi go on and on about how they're the worst in the class, they win the bloody gold!" ITA!
I wish Mallory had been allowed to suceed at horse back riding and Jessi "fail" at synchronized swimming. One positive shining moment for poor Mal!
The Mini-Olympics were not too thrilling to read about--usually I like the sitting chapters, too. I did like Charlotte telling MA to simply sell hot dogs as a way to participate. Too bad MA did not heed that advice better and become more pro-active/creative instead of "Woe is Me," Whinning.

I completely agree with this. Mal placed sixth in the horse show, but Jessi gets the gold medal in swimming? Please. Just how much of Jessi's ballet experience transfers over to swimming to make her good enough for the gold?

This is, surprisingly, one of my favorite books of the series!! I am generally not a big Jessi fan, but I really liked this book. I remember my friend and I saying, "I'm GLOWING" when it was hot outside, because horses sweat, men perspire, and women glow!
It was neat seeing Jessi be unsure of herself when doing an activity with her body - she's usually so good at everything with ballet and all.

I liked reading how hard Jessi had to work at synchro. It's nice to see her have to work at something, instead of getting it the first time.

Hahahaha - my favorite part of this book is all the glowing references! I work outside all day long and now will say - I am glowing! I love how Jessi refers to her sweaty leotard as glowy....love it.
Other than that, not sure there is anything redeeming in this book. PSA of work hard and it pays off? I agree with this being on the back of Mallory and the dream horse was too much. Maybe it was a way to show that if you don't give up and practice you can win....unlike poor pathetic Mal who gave up. Geez ghostwriters, give the girl a break!

^I couldn't even read this book this time around. I skipped right to "Kristy and the Missing Child." Did all the synchro lessons take place during school hours? If they didn't, I guess Jessi's parents felt swimming was more acceptable than horse riding. In "Dream Horse," the Ramseys said ballet and baby-sitting took up enough of Jessi's time. I still don't get why Jessi couldn't have taken one, the first/introductory, riding lesson just to see what it was about, if it'd interest her.
