i felt that the way logan acted in this book really characterized his relationship with Mary Anne. He wouldn't let Mary Anne do anything for the baby. The lesson Mary Anne should have learned is:, don't stay with Logan and have chlldren with him.

Good point, greer. I totally agree. Logan is so overbearing, I mean seriously, what other girl would make a better mom at 13 than Mary Anne?!

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned it before, but whenever I think of this book the first thing that comes to mind is Mallory and Jessi laughing at the idea of hogging an egg (because they associate hogs with bacon, bacon and eggs, hahaha) and the other sitters acting like they're so immature for being amused. Lighten up, non-junior officers!

Something similar happens in a GirlTalk books where they do the egg project and then none of the girls can eat eggs. I don't think I know anyone who would've taken the egg project seriously.

I never did the egg/flour sack/doll project, but I always wanted to. I had visions of decorating my egg and making a cute little environment for it.

Oh it's so funny when they 8th graders are like disgusted with Jessi and Mal and are like "uggggh you don't GET IT!" haha. I know we've mentioned it before, but it's so funny. I believe my home-ec class (it had a different name, but I can't remember it) in 8th grade did the flour sack project, but I'd dropped the class by then So I never did anything like this either.

You weren't missing much! It's a stupid, pointless assignment.

I remember when I first started high school, I was waiting for an egg project. I was so disappointed when it never came.

^So true. We did it with a sack of flour. I'm pretty sure everyone carried their "baby" around during school hours because it was required and then promptly stashed them in their lockers until the next day when the final bell rang.
ITA agree with the comments about Logan. He was ridiculously over-bearing in this book and it really was indicitive of his relationship with Mary Anne. What's even more disturbing is that all of his was taking place after they'd broken up and gotten back together and he'd supposedly changed for the better.

^ the supposedly "devoted" adoring long-time boyfriends in both the BSC and Sweet Valley had disturbingly possessive, controlling tendencies.

^LOL, that really made me laugh. I don't remember boys being like that at ALL in junior high. I didn't have a boyfriend though, so maybe I was just out of the loop. But it seems to me the girls would've been the jealous, controlling ones and the boys would've been barely interested in them. I don't know... I have a hard time getting used to Logan being like this because I NEVER gave it much thought til coming to this board. And at first I thought you guys were reading too much into him, but thinking back to certain books, I'm definitely like "wtf, Logan's kinda a d*ck..." but alas, I was fooled into thinking he was the perfect dream boyfriend for a very long time. oi.

Junior high boys are - and always were - an absolute mystery to me. I doubt that a Logan character is particularly realistic, but really, I have nothing to base it on.
I think we were just supposed to accept Ann/ghostwriter's word that Logan was ideal and not question it much beyond that - you know, he's good looking, smart, athletic, seems to care about MA, responsible.

The lesson Mary Anne should have learned is:, don't stay with Logan and have chlldren with him. Concur. I don't know if she'd see it that way...I got the sense that MA kinda appreciated how "involved" Logan was with the baby. Like she might be thinking he would make a good dad since he was always insisting on taking the baby and just acting overprotective in general.
