I didn't see a thread for this one.
Yes, the plot is boring. But for once the BSC didn't win anything. They sucked! And not only did they learn something from their experience and they actually talked about it. It would've gotten boring and preachy for a lesson to be taught in every book, but once in a while is okay.
Well, they did seem to do nearly perfect in the infant course. I was glad it wasn't two sitters that had the only two perfect scores in the class. I was surprised that the BSC hadn't taken any courses like that before. It seems it would be pretty obvious.
At least the fight they had broke up the boring plot even if it was resolved rather quickly. I liked how they talked about why they were angry.

I liked the first part of this book, with the infant course, actually. I probably would've enjoyed it more, though, if none of the BSC-ers had a perfect score - esp not the narrator! Yet another cliché!...
The second part of the book wasn't really boring to me, either, I just felt so ashamed in all of their places when I read it. Seriously, it was worse than Stacey's big crush.

Nothing will ever be worse than "The next one might not be so...slow." Ughhh. I shuddered just typing it.

I believe this book onwards is when the quality of BSC books started to decline (although there were still some classics later on). But really. It was appalling. I lost all respect for Ellen Miles, whom I believe also wrote Jessi and the Jewel Theives, another winner.
Also, inconsistency. Jessi claimed not to know what colic was, but her entire chapter in BSC Remember was about dealing with... er, Squirt's colic.

I think this one, along with Jessi's Baby-Sitter were the only ones I truly hated when I was younger. So not interested in your babies, girls.
Although, I loved the part when I read it a couple months back when Dawn refused to let Eleanor wear those pink clown-suits that Mallory made.

Since I am one of the only ones who actually liked reading about the babysitting, I enjoyed reading about the babies in this one. They sounded so cute but the float sounded hideous! I always loved the idea of sitting for many babies at one time and the problems this might cause - more chaotic than I would want to handle in real life My favorite part of the book was the description of Andrea and Mrs. P's outfit.

Yeah, they've been sitting for infants since #3 and now they take a course, and now they're all happy that they're qualified to sit for infants. Well, if might have been nice if you had been qualified before you started, girls. And then only seven books later in #52, they realize, hey, taking care of babies is hard. Gah.

I always found it weird how in BSC books (other than this one and MA + 2 Many Babies) taking care of babies was so d**n EASY. They were always content to sit in a stroller or playpen while the babysitter entertained the older kid and putting them to bed was a matter of tucking them into their bassinette or crib, then walking out of the room.

I loved all their ideas for the float. Stacey wanted to do a Broadway theme, Kristy wanted them to be little baseball players, etc. I think Mary Anne even wanted a cat theme so she could include Tigger. Or am I imagining that? It's been forever since I read this book, but I just remember finding their ideas amusing. I also loved how they were so bitchy to each other when they pointed out how stupid their ideas were.

It was always that way with any kid they baby-sat for, with exceptions for Jenny Prezzioso and Haley Braddock in Claudia and the Little Liar where they butchered the Haley character and stuff like that. It was a real shocker to me when I actually started baby-sitting and I found out that the attitude of children in general is, "She isn't my mom or dad or teacher; therefore I don't have to listen to her."

I thought it was kind of annoying how their ideas for the float were mostly, like, the main attribute of theirs that is always shoved down our throats. Dawn wants surfer babies and Mallory wants horses (WTF, Mallory, seriously)? And then the same thing happened with their outfits for the actual parade. At least attempt to make these characters NOT entirely one-dimensional, Ellen Miles!
Also, I know Jessi's love for her ballet threads is being discussed in another thread, but I have to say I think it was so dumb of her to show up at the parade in a "ballet getup", because we all know she is a talented ballerina who is already en pointe even though she is only eleven and therefore will probably barely be able to walk by the time she is forty. Therefore, was it REALLY necessary for her to make herself stick out from everyone? She had to have known no one else would arrive in leotards and leg warmers.
Sorry, my Jessi hate is really strong because I finally got a copy of BSC in the USA and ugh. Hate her.

Omg, I know!! One instance in particular that jumps out at me is when they are teaching Jamie Newton how to ride his bike. In every single chapter where they're baby-sitting for Jamie and Lucy, they say something like "Jamie wanted to practice riding his bike so I set Lucy in her walker on the lawn with a rattle and went to help Jamie." Babies are always so perfect and content when the Baby-Sitters Club is around!
