Stacey was acting very out-of-character here. I'm not talking about dating instead of sitting, but about how she hurt Charlotte.
The main thing about this book that I don't get is that Claudia KNEW the other sitters weren't invited, but went anyway and got mad at Stacey cause she was there. It was crazy! Claudia CHOSE to go, it wasn't Stacey's fault she got caught. Yet, when the other sitters get mad that they weren't invited, Claudia just apologies and that part's okay. They wouldn't even listen to Stacey that the party was a last minute switch.
Personally, I don't like Stacey very much in the series. I do in the beginning, but not too far down the line, she gets to be such a b*tch.

I think Stacey changes more naturally into a teenager than the others do. I definitely have friends that I lost along the way because I wasn't cool enough for them.

I was always pissed more at Stacey in this book. I feel that she had the right to be mad at Kristy and Dawn in particular, but I felt she treated Mary Anne really badly considering how nice MA was to her. I do understand her frustration, though.

I think Stacey changes more naturally into a teenager than the others do. ITA Honestly, this book was long overdue. I'm surprised how long several of the members put up with the life-dominating BSC and dictator Kristy.

this is probably my favourite BSC book because it seemed to be the most realistic, at least in terms of them growing up. sure, stacey was being immature and mean to MA and the rest of her friends because of their "embarrassing" behaviour, but she's thirteen years old. i remember many people (probably myself included) changing our groups of friends quickly and trying to be as cool as possible and discriminating against our old friends because of what they wore or things like that.
i agree that this book was way overdue. honestly, the BSC always seemed a little dorky to me and i wondered exactly why someone as "mature" and "sophisticated" as stacey would want to associate with them.
i'm just surprised she didn't call laine and try to reconcile after this.

when I was younger, I immediately sided with The BSC on the fight. Now that I am older, I can see both sides of the argument. I think this book shows that two wrongs don't make a right. Kristy acts like a total dictator, and Dawn shouldn't have spied like that, but Stacey shouldn't have been a total b*tch like she was.

Yeah really mature. I totally agree, but luckily she redeems herself by the end of the series.

What is with Dawn and the spying? She was a stalker in Dawn and the Older Boy and in Baby Sitters On Board, too. I agree that her spying in this book was really funny - it always is. I'm going to reread this one soon so should have more to add to this thread

Hmm...Dawn did a lot more spying that I originally remembered...that is kind of creepy.

The thing that annoyed me was the bit when Stacey's new mates goes: Er Stacey, about your friends (Dawn, MA and Kristy) they're not coming are they?
And she goes: Don't worry they don't need to know about it.
Maybe because I'm older and wiser, that just seems nasty. Stacey's known these girls for years...They accepted her regardless of her diabetes and made her feel welcome. Stacey owes her new friends nothing and the friends shouldn't be expecting her to ditch her mates for them. There's no reason why the other BSC members shouldn't fit in with her other mates.
On a lighter note: Claudia's abstract painting...Lol! I would so have knocked her out after that.

Agreed! What was with that? Claudia was all for going to the cool secret party, but didn't want to be thought badly of by the BSC and blamed the whole thing on Stacey.
Dawn and Mary Anne showing up at the door, though...Stacey had a point when she said if they knew the whole school was talking about the party and the switch, why didn't they just ask her straight out? I don't think they came over to show how hurt they were for not being invited; they just wanted to make Stacey feel like a thoughtless loser and a traitor, and to use it against her later. They wanted to ruin the party for Stacey (and Claud) and they did.

I don't really blame MA and Dawn for showing up at Stacey's party. I'd never have the balls to do it... I mean how embarrassing to randomly show up to a party you're not invited to! But it was rude of Stacey not to invite them, esp if "the whole school knew about it." And ITA with supernatural... the BSC are the only true friends Stacey's ever had. They argued, sure, but they never truly turned their backs on her like her NYC friends. Then again, typical behavior of a 13 year old... go hang out with the cool kids.

Oh, agreed...that is definitely her low point and I don't like that she did it. The BSC will be true-blue no matter what. She turned into Laine when she rejected them.
