I think with Stacey, her actions are also down to peer pressure. She is associated with the BSC, and when they do something that is termed 'childish' or 'immature' by her other friends, Stacey feels that it reflects on her personally and it embarrasses her. I agree that Stacey was definitely out of line in this book (particularly the party episode, the constant lateness, Jamie and Charlotte), but I can identify with what she feels, it's a very difficult situation.

I just love, love, love Stacey's big rant at the end. There's something gratifying in long running stories like these where a character just goes off on everyone else, but in a painfully accurate way. It reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Ned briefly snaps and lets it all out. On the dvd commentary for that episode the writers were saying how much fun it was to essentially go off on your own characters, and I'm sure the ghostwriter for this one felt the same way!
Part of why I loved this book so much is that it's surprisingly nuanced, and that Stacey's new crowd isn't this group of mustache twirling bad guys that she comes to her senses about. That's why I was really disappointed by Stacey and the Bad Girls, like that's the only way they could think of to have her come back, is to hang out with girls who sneak wine into a concert? Sheesh.

^ And that her closest friend in that group, Andi steals her boyfriend in Stacey's Broken Heart...

^ I always thought that was so mean. I never liked any of the bad girls and Andi was the best one but I really couldn't stand her after she cheated with Robert.

I liked this one a lot because it really does hit the subject well. Stacey's reaction is a very accurate one, for a girl at 13 years old.
She's 13 and she's just barely expriencing things and she feels like everyone is watching her closely.
She will most likely grow out of it come highschool, hopefully.
Kristy's attitdue in the book is a little annoying too, Dawn stalking Stacey, thats just wrong and there is no excuse.
I dont understand why Stacey did not just talk to her friends about wanting to spend more time with Robert. I dont' think they would have been so angry if she just confined in them about how much she wants to be with him.
But the, Kristy strikes me to be a little callious. I can't stand Kristy >>
ALL the girls were being bitchy in this book though.
I think they were all going through PMS XD

^ Dawn made me so mad in Saves the Planet. I think that was the book that really turned me off to her.

yeah it's so hard for me to read that book cause dawn is so irritating in that one. i really like dawn and the older boy and dawn's big date though, which i think are the two before that one.

I'm reading this one right now, and I'm taking a break after the vomit scene. Really, Peter, was it necessary to be THAT descriptive? I seriously gagged and had to run to the bathroom. I don't do well with vomit.
I have to say, I like the main plot of this one, but the subplot is really boring. I still like the earlier books better, but this one isn't bad for a later one. I also don't like the changes to Kristy's character. When did she go completely crazy? Why are all the sitters ganging up on Stacey? She did find a sub for the Pikes, and she would have sat for them if everyone refused to. She also tried to make it up to Mary Anne. I think it started out with all the sitters being really crazy clique-y. I also completely understand her thoughts about being embarrassed about what her friends are wearing. I still do that, although I'm working on not vocalizing them. However, sometimes my mom and I will be shopping and there will be something so egregious that it just requires looks and sarcastic comments.
But then Stacey definitely doesn't do herself any favors when she keeps flaking out. And I don't know why she's worried about Kristy's reaction to Jamie throwing up. That seems a little extreme to me. Stacey already feels bad, and she did the best she could to rectify the situation. It's like saying "I told you so" when someone is bleeding from the head after being thrown from a car after not wearing a seatbelt. Nothing you can do is going to change it, and I think the person learned his/her lesson.
And WTF is up with Dawn? Why is she acting like a 6 year old, spying on her friends in a public establishment? Did she think no one was going to see her?
I kind of think that Stacey's comments about people's clothes are her version of a comeback? I do it too, like when this woman threw a book at me at Goodwill, my first thought was that she was really fat and ugly. No real idea why.

I just didn't get Dawn the first time I read this book. I didn't know why she would take it upon herself to spy on Stacey and report back to MA and Kristy and the rest. It honestly made me like her a little less, and I had never had a problem with Dawn before!

^ I can't say too much about Dawn since I can see myself doing the same type of thing. ;D The only thing that I really like about that scene is that I find it funny when Stacey calls Dawn "Nanook of the North." ;D I say that about myself every time I realize how bundled up I get to go outside in these frigid temps. Thinking about that makes me realize that this book must take place in the winter. Does it say when?

^ Thanks. I think chilly sums up what I'm feeling right now, though, so I'll go ahead and reread it soon. ;D
