I just didn't get Dawn the first time I read this book. I didn't know why she would take it upon herself to spy on Stacey and report back to MA and Kristy and the rest. It honestly made me like her a little less, and I had never had a problem with Dawn before! Ugh, I forgot about Dawn spying on Stacey behind the jukebox. I was sympathetic to the BSC in this book, but really Dawn, spying behind a jukebox in a pizza parlor? Not cool. Doing it just so you could report about Stacey to the other girls? Even more not cool.

I agree, Dawn's behaviour was awful. I'd feel mortified if a friend spied on me. One thing I find bizarre about the BSC getting mad at Stacey being on the phone whilst sitting for Jamie is that I remember a million times in the series where the sitters made phone calls whilst on a job. For example, Kristy stays on the phone to Alan for ages in MA and Too Many Babies... bloody hypocrites

When I first saw this book in the store years back, I hadn't read a BSC book since #68. I just had to get this one because I didn't believe that Stacey would actually leave the club. I was surprised that she did quit, but of course she had to come crawling back only a few books later. I felt so bad for Jamie whe he was sick and Stacey was blathering on the phone, not even hearing him call for her.

^ I felt for Jamie, too. I think that is what the problem was with Stacey being on the phone - that she was on to the point of ignoring her responsibility. I was thinking of Jamie today when I felt really sick (I think I am trying to catch his flu ;D) and thought I'd better not eat mac and cheese. ;D

^ Thanks, lyricalangel. I probably caught it from you, greer. ;D I'm going to read Get Well Soon Mallory tomorrow and Karen's School Trip. ;D That sounds like fun to me, haven't read those two in awhile ;D. I hope you feel better soon . And definitely stay away from this book if you're getting sick, if you must read it, skip the mac and cheese chapter ;D. I couldn't believe they went into so much detail with it, when I first read it, I got tuned off of mac and cheese for at least 2 months.

^ I always thought that was so mean. I never liked any of the bad girls and Andi was the best one but I really couldn't stand her after she cheated with Robert. I really hated that that happened. It would have been nice if Stacey could have still been friends with one girl outside the BSC, because otherwise you learn from the "bad girls" arc to only hang out with people in your clique and not mix with others at all. Also, I genuinely like both Andi and Robert, despite the cheating, since I've made plenty of mistakes myself, but if I were Stacey, I wouldn't want to talk to Andi again, either. So I feel bad for Stacey since she was betrayed by two people who were supposed to really care about her.

I was practically cheering for Stace in this one! The BSC is so cliquey sometimes and they can be total dorks too (I'm a dork so I'd fit right in but I can see how someone so "sophisticated" as Stacey would want out). All in all, I felt that this was one of the most realistic BSC books out there! I was sad that Stacey quit, though!

I have a hard time deciding whose side I'm on. On the one hand, I think Stacey wasn't treating the BSC very well - lying to them, being embarassed by them, inviting Claudia and not the others to her party, etc. But on the other hand, I can see her need to get away from them and make new friends. The BSC really is cliquey, and Kristy totally rules with an iron fist. I don't think I'd like to be in a group of friends like that. And I can definitely understand the appeal of a group of peers who don't devote all their free time to baby-sitting and who don't hang out with kids all the time. I thought Ann's "Dear Reader" letter was somewhat interesting for this book. She mentions that it was likely that eventually one of the girls would lose interest and that Stacey was always the most likely the girl to do it. I totally agree with that. It's too bad she came crawling back to them so soon, because this could have been Ann's chance to develop the series a bit further. It would have been cool if Kristy realized that her Cult-esque ruling was driving people away and sort of stopped behaving that way when Stacey comes back. But considering how late this book came out in the series, character development wasn't likely to happen!

^ I also have mixed feelings about Stacey in this one. I agree that Stacey did some bad things (breaking a promise, ignoring Jamie, seeming snobby in general), but I also understand her frustrated feelings about the BSC and how it was dominating her life. She needed some space to grow and make new friendships. I, too, notice that the BSC girls often seem to shun time spent away from their “group.”
I can understand Stacey's feelings when she saw Kristy sticking straws up her nose in the restaraunt (I would have felt the same way ;D), but I don’t like how Stacey looked down at the girls for other petty reasons. I just hate to see Stacey as a “bad girl” and wish she had handled things better in this book (I have the feeling she would have had ghostwriter Peter not been involved, but on the other hand, I always enjoy Peter's books because they're so full of drama ;D). All in all, despite the irresponsible/snobby way Stacey acted, this book is always very entertaining to me.

Don't stick straws up your nose, Kristy. Potentially dangerous. ;D

As well as the sticking straws up nose, I'd have been embarrassed of Dawn's very obnoxious behaviour in the restaurant. I remember her behaving in a very condescending manner towards the waitress about the food and yelling something along the lines of how she would not want to watch anyone eat cooked carcasses... why did she go to Burger Town then? Sometimes I think Dawn behaves like that to get attention (in the later series at least)...
