Well, there's Abby I like that she goes to all that trouble in Snowbound; it was nice to see that aspect of her personality, and I didn't think it was really too terribly out of character, since she typically swoons for Bart.

^ yeah, but she never worries about her hair and makeup any other time, even when she was hanging out with Bart. Why was it so important on just that one occasion?

Bart with the weird notes and Alan with the phantom calls and spying in book two...gee, why can't boys screw up the courage to ask Kristy out in person? They're afraid she'll give them her Look.

I think she did worry about it in Haunted Mansion with Bart being there. I remember because it made me mad that she cared when I was a kid. Of course, I always kind of worried more about how I looked when the boy I liked was going to be around. I didn't want to feel like that, though, (had no desire to have a boyfriend or be like those "stupid, giggly girls" ;D) which is why I was angry at Kristy, I think.

She wasn't caring about her hair and makeup when Bart saw her "au naturale" during the Bashers/Krushers games. But maybe it was the more BF/GF situation that freaked her out. Who knows ;D

^ I think it does have a lot with the situation. It did for me, at least. I never worried about how awful I looked when I was showing horses with my "guy" friends (if you can only imagine a sweaty face and "helmet hair" ;D) but did start to worry if we were all going out after the show. I also worried a little about first impressions on how I looked the first time he saw me when he got to the show after I hadn't seen him for a long time. That's just me, though, but I think it might be how Kristy feels too. In situations like the games, she can just be Bart's "pal". It's so confusing when the whole BF/GF thing takes over. ;D

Just reread and mostly like this one for nostalgic reasons, I think, as it was one of the first BSC books I owned. Was this one of the mysteries published before there was an actual mystery series? Anyway, the notes Bart writes are just..... weird. I wonder if he really wrote them or if he had help from somewhere. I've gotten a lot of really over the top, mushy notes from 13 year old boys with some weird stuff ("Dear Jenny (which is nothing even close to my name).... Sincerely, Forrest Gump....;D) but these notes from Bart seemed to go beyond what I'd ever gotten. They were almost more pathetic than MA's notes to Logan in SS 2. "I love you, I love you, I love you" and decorated with hearts and flowers seemed really out of character for Bart. I don't know. The whole thing was just strange and didn't endear Bart to me any. I did like how rational Stacey was about the whole thing at the meeting. Shannon, too, but for some reason I didn't like her as much in this one as I usually do. I think my opinion of her has become biased by Shannon's Story and Kristy and the Snobs. I liked the stuff about the lobster costumes and the Pike sitting chapter and the babies at the Krusher game. Marnie in her t-shirt sounded so cute and it was funny how Suzi was teasing Buddy about his crush on Shannon. ;D

I always find it strange in Mystery Admirer that Shannon wants to come and hang out at Krusher practice. I know the excuse is she has “free time” but I can see a lot better uses for free time. ;D Maybe it was that she was waiting for Kristy or something but it made it out like she just came to watch.

This book is the BSC's second Halloween as eighth-graders. There's one part where one of them goes, "Remember Halloween?" and they start reminiscing about scaring Cokie & Co. in the cemetery. Stacey was all, "What happened? Tell me the story," because she was back in NYC when the first Halloween happened. It always bugged me that they carefully avoided saying that was LAST Halloween, because they were in 8th grade then, and they're in 8th grade now, having another Halloween...so how could it be LAST Halloween if they were still supposed to be in the same school year? Yeesh, sometimes this series gets me too worked up and makes my head spin.

^I'm surprised that Stacey didn't know the story already. They went to visit her in NYC right after that book. Maybe they would have had time to tell her if they hadn't spent that whole trip either working or fighting. I still like when they mention old plots in books, even if you have to ignore the timeline. It's kind of a bonus for the hardcore readers.

I like the mentioning of old plots, too, even though it does mean ignoring the timeline of things. Since this series has so many inconsistencies, it's nice to see a little continuity and mentions of things past every once in a while. And you are right - Stacey should have known the Halloween story, since they went to NYC just one book later. I know they spent a lot of that book fighting and not talking, but they did make up and have one fun evening together. You'd think the Halloween escapade would have been mentioned to Stace at some point.

In Bad Luck Mystery, Claudia mentioned that she was talking to Stacey on the phone and weird stuff had been happening to her in NY too. Umm, when Stacey mentioned the weird stuff happening, I would think Claudia would have mentioned the weird stuff that had been happening to them and why. That always bugged me in Mystery Admirer when Stacey acted like she never heard the story before.

Not having every single book and reading the ones I do have in order, I've just happened to go: Stacey and The Mystery of Stoneybrook, Kristy's Mystery Admirer and now onto Jessi and the Dance school phantom.. Have to say I'm a little over the regular series "mysteries" by now. This was the second time I'd read this book, I quite enjoyed it for a 'mystery' except it was all a little too "bad luck mystery" all over again. Of COURSE it had to be Cokie!! The Kristy / Bart interaction is really sweet. I feel sorry for him when Kristy decides he's a maniac and Shannon begins refusing to speak to him out of no where. Kristy getting annoyed over Shannon 'implying' that stepchildren are less important than biological children by saying that anyone wanting ransom money of Watson would be a lot more likely to take Karen or Andrew was a bit silly. At the end of the day, she would have to know Shannon was right.
