Now, that would be the ultimate curse of the time warp--"real" person or not.

I wanted Hope to be born, too. I liked the Felders. If Hope had been born, the girls could have sat for her and maybe we'd have gotten to hear more about Susan.

^Exactly, such as what Susan's reaction would be to her new sister.

the other day there was a thing on tlc or discovery health (i can't remember which) about a lady who had been pregnant for like 40 years. i didn't watch it, but the info said the baby calcified :[ I remember reading about that in my copy of the Guinness book when I was a kid! I'm assuming it was the same woman profiled on the show, since I don't know how common something like that is. Probably not very. And I wonder too how Susan would react to a baby in the house. She didn't seem to respond much to anyone at all or form attachments to people, so I wonder how much she'd notice. I always felt sad for Mrs. Felder when she was talking to Kristy about Susan's childhood and how she just "shut down" when she was about two. They thought she was on the way to being a genius because she was so advanced up until that point, and then she did a total 180. I can't even imagine what that would be like. And they were clinging to the hope that someday she'd be recognized for her amazing piano talent. I also found it sad when Kristy realized that the music itself didn't really have any meaning for Susan, when she sang the skips on the record.

How could she sing the skips?

Reminds me of something from James Thurber, in (I think) the story "More Alarms at Night." Which is funny regardless of whether that's the right one I'm thinking of. Read it.

One way you can tell that time has passed since this was published is that they say Susan is autistic, whereas in today's parlance it's more common to hear "She has autism".

Oh, God, that makes me imagine Susan playing "Girl You Know It's True" on the piano.
