^That is shocking! Almost all BSC males are either cast aside, somehow "bad," or deadbeats. Either that, or in the case of younger kids, thinking David Michael and especially poor Andrew, lost to Karen.

Oh, God, that makes me imagine Susan playing "Girl You Know It's True" on the piano. OMG!!!!! And wasn't the book written shortly after that disastrous performance too?

This was okay book. Not one of my favorites. I didn't like Mel paying the kids to see Susan do calendar trick and playing music. Kristy, should know something was up. I knew, the kids was up to no good. I have mild cerebral palsy. The sub-plot was good. Meeting the The Hobart family.

I don't get why the Hobarts were bullied that much. I'm assuming they were also Caucasian/Anglo-Saxon, but just from Australia with accents not much different from a British one.

ben had red hair, glasses, and freckles, so if the rest of them looked anything like him i'm assuming they were somewhat dorky looking. but mostly i guess it was because this is small town stoneybrook, where anybody who is slightly different is sensationalized.

This book made me think every kid with a disability was autistic. Luckily I didn't read the Whitney book as a kid or I would have had stereotypes about Down Syndrome kids too. Thanks, BSC!

I have a hunch the Hobarts were teased simply to be a "subplot" to what was going on with Susan. I think that may be especially true since it never was resolved. Sure we were told that the boys had made friends and "hardly ever got teased anymore except by Mel and Zach." Well, to my knowledge, weren't those two the only teasers to begin with? IDK, I just always wanted James and/or the Felders to interact one more time (in the future) and/or for James/Kristy to bond. Unfortunately neither happened, nor was Hope ever born. I think I've said before but Ann's book called "Inside Out" that deals with autism was a millions times better than this one. The 3-4 year-old- boy in that book (who was dealing with autism) was even named James.

it would have been nice if Kristy one day managed to volunteer with the special needs kids at SMS, as she did show an interest for them after the assembly.

^I forgot about that; you're right. I wonder if Susan had come back to Stoneybrook earlier than "European Vacation" (almost end of regular series) if Kristy would have (the writers allowed her to) "remembered that?" Didn't Dawn volunteer for a special needs after school program in "Jessi's Wish?" Maybe Kristy could have checked out, as well.

What did she do in it? Was she talking or about the same?

^That freaked me out too. I envisioned it as a cold metal machine that would literally trap Susan in its grasp for whatever duration it was set to? That sounds so wrong and I'm sure (hope) that is far from the actual case. Definitely scary and could have been better explained.
