It reminds me of those commercials - "I've fallen and I can't get up!!!"

^A little, because both the commercial and the wording in the book make something sad and serious come across as intending to be funny. :/

I wish we'd gotten to know Mrs. Towne a bit more. Yes, she really took advantage of Mary Anne, but she corrected her behavior once she was called out on it. I found her to be fairly likeable overall, and I think she could have been an interesting recurring character. I'm not sure how that would have happened, though, considering the fact that she didn't have any kids for the BSC to sit for. The sewing plotline really wasn't worth more than one book....maybe she could have turned up in a mystery or two?

^I know! She was (could/should have) been a friend, or even long-time customer of that rotten Dorothy Sawyer from Sew Fine! Or, maybe, she somehow came to find out what happened between Dorothy and Will and that angered her enough to take her business elsewhere. Insert some type of mystery. Just a thought.

I would have rather had Mrs. Towne instead of Elvira

^Ha! I was just thinking if she had a goat we would have heard more from her.

^I didn't really like either of them. I thought Elvira was cute-ish the first time, for a few minutes, like when Buddy sang to her, but that was it. No pressing need for MA, Stacey, and Dawn to oogle the entire book at her "cuteness." Mrs. Towne, maybe because Mary Anne was so involved, didn't do anything for me. I like the idea of her being in a mystery better, perhaps about the town of Stoneybrook.

I like the title, it sounds like Maid Marion from Robin Hood Hah, that was the main reason I wanted to read this one. I still offer a bit of silent congratulations to whoever came up with the title for this one. Anyways, this one was sort of boring but still nice. MA was trying so hard to be nice and considerate of Mrs. Towne. I don't think she meant to take advantage, but she did. The quilts sounded really cool, though. I sew a bit, but I've never made a quilt, though I've always wanted to. The fairytale quilt made me wish there were pictures in the book... I'd have liked to see that. I love MA and Logan's innocent relationship. It's nice to think of preteens doing wholesome things where the physical contact only extends to hand holding and pecks on the cheek. And for some reason, I have trouble imagining Haley and Buddy enjoying a sitting down activity like sewing. I could see the other kids liking it, but those two were a bit of a stretch for me. They seemed more like playing outside type of kids. Not that you can't enjoy both, I just don't get that vibe from either of them.

^For some reason I can see the Pikes really getting into sewing clothes for costumes and stuff.

^ Especially Vanessa. That is, if she pulled herself away from writing poetry. Speaking of, I round it really unrealistic that a 9-year-old kid would spend what seemed like ALL of her time writing poems.

I just checked because I forgot who the members of the sewing class were. It was : Vanessa, Nicky, Charlotte, Becca, Haley, and Buddy. I don't see any of them having the patience or really desire to suddenly sit for the time it would take to make a quilt. Charlotte in a later book was so excited to show Stacey her computer program which allowed for printing out doll clothes patterns (I think to sew), so maybe she might have gone for it. I think the 6 kid choices were a matter of convenience over anything else. Nicky and Buddy were friends as were the four girls. 4 of them were 8 two (V and H) were 9. I also don't quite buy that either MA or Claudia learned to quilt make from a book almost instantly.
ITA about Vanessa, Virgo. That's another reason I loved the scene in Too Many Boys when she talks with MA and before Mal leaves for Riverbend and also about Sophie at night V and Mal talk). Those are few instances where we get to know Vanessa little better.

^ Doesn't buddy have ADD or something? Or am I just making that up in my head. Either way, I don't see him getting into sewing at all. And wouldn't Nicky be SO CONCERNED that the triplets are going to make fun of him for his rather feminine hobby?

^And of course the triplets were fairly ooc here by not only not mercilessly teasing him for sewing, but by happily donning aprons and baking without harassing anyone. (It's funny that I like the triplets as much as I do.) Well, Byron being the foodie he is, it doesn't surprise me to find him in the kitchen, but still.
And I'm not sure if Buddy is ADD, but I could really see that. That's why he especially seemed like an odd choice for the sewing circle. ITA with zoar3 that these kids were chosen far more for convenience than anything else.

I'm surprised Ann and the ghostie didn't put Jackie in the sewing group so wacky hijinks could ensue. Just imagine! Jackie sewing the quilt to his pants, sitting on a pin cushion, breaking a sewing machine...the possibilities are endless!

actually, i could see jackie enjoying sewing a lot more than the other two boys, and being in the class without quitting to serve the subplot. he knows how clumsy he is, so i could picture him really throwing himself into something that didn't involve moving around much. and he is also just a whole lot nicer than either nicky or buddy.
