I definitely knew some skirts-only ladies when I was a child, all of whom were way older. That being said, I largely wear skirts/dresses myself (which probably doesn't come as a great shock!)

This book really did drag along. Whoever said up-thread it read longer than most was sure right! In fact, the story seemed to fizzle out and then as if Nola Thacker was forcing herself to finish, picked back up. What I noticed this time around was all the Mary Anne angst concerning Dawn talking of CA. As I said in the "Insensitive MA" thread, all this really was a warning to Dawn to watch out for MA's "wrath." I do wish the kid's sewing class had continued because the odd group of 6 seemed to really work well. I also would have enjoyed seeing Vanessa and Nicky bond, it could have been good for both of them to have an unexpected new "ally" that way.

Boooorrrrring! I think the only thing I liked was the dawn leaving foreshadowing! Ma always seems to be trying so hard to be something instead of just being who she is. I feel like she just may not know and is searching (which is completely fine for a 13 year old so I guess I will cut her some slack)

^Isn't being interested in sewing who she is?

Well yes I guess - I meant the part where she was trying so hard to be nice and non self centered. It just seems like you shouldn't have to try so hard to so that if you are.

^ I think that's true about a lot of things - if you're constantly having to (loudly) prove to someone that you're not what they say you are, it might be time to take a second look at things.

OMG. Reading this one immediately after Stacey's Big Crush, and I'm soooo sick of hearing about Elvira. Maybe it's just me, but I'm never into the goat plots... and to have her feature in two books in a row is already getting obnoxious (and I'm not even done reading this one, lol-- I agree, it does drag). Also, I never knew those were the twins on the cover-- I thought they were random kids, haha.

Maybe they ran out of real kids and chose goats for a bit, to be witty

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like reading about that stupid baby goat! I also hate reading about Mary Anne the cat-lady in training and her stupid kitten. Maybe I'm just not a baby animal fan.

I love baby animals, but the baby sitters club books about pet sitting bored me most of the time with the exception of pinky & buffy, and when they had the pet show. I prefer the little sister books when they had story lines about animals.
Remember they just had to add Elvira in for the Stoneybrook Arts fair when they made goat shaped cookies out of oat or something? What did that have to do with art? Elvira was totally trolling by then, get it? LOL

I would have loved seeing a photo of Buddy rocking Elvira as he sang "Hush Little Baby" to her. I also thought it was cute that Elvira wanted to join Adam Pike, I believe, under the slide instead of "starring" in her role when the Pikes put on "Three Billy Goats Gruff." Otherwise, I also could have done without the constant Elvira love.

I had a nice surprise yesterday reading about MA and Carolyn and Marilyn going on a exploration through their neighborhood. Reminded me of Winnie the Pooh The Arnold twins aren't always favorites of mine but I enjoyed how we got to know them a little better here and MA seemed to have fun on their walk, too. It was cool that Marilyn was into bird watching, something different that also helped make the scene springier and also more real to me. Mrs. Towne and all the sewing stuff still had not much interest to me and I did skip over all the sewing room descriptions. I do love the idea of story quilts and wish we had gotten to see some of their pictures and also the finished gift the kids, MA, and Claud made for Mrs. Towne I really liked hearing how glad MA was to see her dad after she called him about Mrs. Towne's fall. I always wish we had gotten to read more about the two of them as I believe Richard loved his daughter so very much. Mrs. Towne herself, I didn't get attached to one way or another but did feel badly for. Her house with all the flowers sounded lovely and I just had the thought that like Henrietta's, it, too, was set back from the road and not as accessible or maybe visible is a better word at first sight. In a way, MA seeking out Mrs. Towne was similar to Mal tracking down Henrietta. I had never thought about that before. Both girls were wanting to spend time with someone new who they admired but at first thought unapproachable and then ended up working closely, sometimes, too closely, with. Now I wish Mal or someone had made this connection. A couple other things, do you think Cal. Mrs. Towne's son was named such to add to the Dawn misses CA parts of this book? Mrs. Towne might have been more interesting to me if he had been heard from (even on the phone). That would have also added a totally new element to a story with our getting to meet extended family of a non main character. Cookie scene always makes me hungry and yes miss being able to eat cookies but also feel thankful for so many good memories of my Grandma baking. I will have to read about the Rodowskys in Baby-sitters Beware making edible slammers. Wishing everyone a good Monday and hope you get to enjoy a treat.
