I wish we heard more about Tiffany and gardening later on. We heard about Maria being good at swimming and math in different books. I think the gardening thing is mentioned in Sister War, but it's said that it's too late to garden since the book takes place in October.

Did anyone else find it humorous that Stacey dislikes the movie she and RJ go see on their date (Mall Warriors II, which she calls "amazingly dumb" because it's about a group of teenagers who booby-trap a mall to catch some thieves)? Because if someone told me that was the plot of a BSC book, I would probably believe it (and it's already pretty close to Mystery at the Mall, which came out like six books later).

^ Bwahaha! Good thinking. I see what you mean. I could definitely see it as a BSC Mystery Game or something, haha!

I'm reading Claudia and the New Girl, and at the beginning, during Claudia's famous spelling test where she spells "pharaoh" as "farrow," she's also not paying much attention to her teacher:
That made me think of this book, of course.

^ I can't believe that SMS has varsity cheerleaders. Does that mean they have a JV squad, too? That seems like a bit much for middle school.

^ I feel like that was a ghostwriter slip-up or something and they didn't realize what depths they went into by saying there are cheerleaders at SMS

My sister is in 7th grade and a cheerleader. They do sports teams/dance/etc. instead of regular gym class, and it's one of the sports you can choose.
but also I feel like it kind of goes along with the sitters basically acting like they are juniors or seniors in high school, rather than middle schoolers.

So this may be odd, but I never went to middle school so we never had cheerleaders. We went directly from elementary school to high school. Being in high school in 8th grade was not so fun b/c their was such a huge age difference. However, there were cheerleaders for the jv teAms, but no one ever went to the game so it didn't really matter.

^ wiggir13, I had the same experience (no middle school as well as no cheerleaders). I also went to Catholic schools, so I also think that was a factor as well. But cheer-leading isn't a big thing in Canadian schools. I think it's more of an American phenomenon.

I think CA Diaries era Dawn would disagree with you....didn't she really like being in high school with the older kids?

^Dawn acted like she loved it in "The Secret Life of Mary Anne Spier." For the first third of the story, Dawn acted superior to MA because of constantly being around high school kids. I have never read any CD's so can't comment on that. When I was growing up, "middle school" was rare. I went to "Junior High" 7th-9th grade. 9th grade was considered though the first year of HS. 10th-12th grades I attended a magnet school. The student body there was "odd" because it was compromised of kids starting from 4th grade all the way on up. It was sometimes strange to see such small kids compared to the bigger 12th grade guys. I think if a school is going to be all-inclusive, Vista sounded like having the two wings was a better idea. I think they along with Shannon's school, SDS, went all the way from K-12, I wonder how that would work in real life?

Except for Ducky, probably not but it's been awhile since I read the books so I might be wrong.

I think starrynight is right. Also, Sunny in particular seemed to really enjoy the older kids.
