My favourite scene in this book is where Jessi wants to go take Squirt out for a walk but Aunt Cecelia says no because it looks like rain, then she says she's going to ride her bike to Mallory's but Aunt C says no because the rain may make the roads slippery. When Jessi storms off in anger, Aunt C tells her to "walk like a lady".

I just finished reading this as part of my epic chronological read-through and blogging of the series! I always loved Jessi on the cover of this book. I think this is my favourite Jessi cover. Her outfit... her facial expression... her body language... It's so perfect and snarky!

Kristy doesn't get mad. She was actually pretty understanding. Then again she wasn't all THAT dictator-y at this point in the series. If it was later on (60s +) then yeah she'd get really mad... At that stage, Kristy would probably huff about it, but she'd have to do it. Or...if in a late stage, I'd like to see Kristy actually call back and tell Aunt Cecelia that by forcing Jessi to miss a meeting, she was ENCOURAGING more irresponsibility. The club isn't just a little kids' club - it's a business, and clients expect to have all of them available unless there's a serious reason, like illness.

I actually liked this one for the most part. Because of the sitting chapters, not for the aunt Cecilia stuff. lol. It was cute how the Pikes decided to make a library in their house. And I also liked reading about Charlotte's project and even seeing more of Jackie, even if Jessi was oblivious to what he was trying to tell her. And I liked that Jessi seemed young in this one compared to others. The weirdest part of the book for me was when Jessi's aunt told her she was afraid she couldn't be as good of a baby-sitter as she was. That just took me out of the story totally, lol.

Topic: I love how Jessi thinks Aunt Cecelia is being unreasonable for still holding a grudge about Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey leaving Jessi in charge of her siblings for a weekend. If I had a younger sibling stupid enough to leave an eleven-year-old in charge of a baby and an eight-year-old, I wouldn't let him forget it, either! The problem is not the grudge. It's that she makes out that it's Jessi's fault, not her parents'. I would be mad if I had a younger sibling that left an eleven-year-old in charge of a baby and an eight-year-old for a whole weekend. But Jessi's not exactly mature enough to tell her parents it's too much responsibility, and her parents gave Becca permission to be on the sailing trip. SO WHY IS AUNT CECELIA ONLY GIVING JESSI A HARD TIME ABOUT IT?

I bet Aunt Cecelia had plenty to say to Jessi's parents (it's definitely in line with her character) that Jessi wasn't around for or just didn't notice because she was already mad. Jessi made everything about herself in this book so it makes sense that they never addressed that.

I love the foreshadowing in this book, like Stacey feeling sick and Mallory's dad might get laid off. Also I really liked that aunt Cecelia was able to get back at the girls for their pranks.
The part with the Pike family library was pretty cute. It said all the pike kids like to read, although judging from Mary Anne and the library mystery I'm guessing only Vanessa, Mallory, Byron, and Margo were the ones that read the most. Jordan, Nicky, Adam, and Claire were goofing off in that book more then actually reading but who knows what they did at home.
I also laughed at Charlotte playing Duran Duran to her plants.
I don't blame for Jackie not wanting Jackie to help him again with a science project. He would have had fun if he could just build the volcano and not worry about anything else.
Didn't like the part where Cecelia was like "I'm jealous of your babysitting ability." Like what? She has her own kid, I'm sure that she would have been fine if they sat down and talked first.

After book 30 this is where Jessi loses her personality because we all know ghostwriters start writing the series from now on . Who on earth would let an eleven year old stay home alone all weekend with their younger siblings ? Cecilia has a right to be angry.

I was 13 when I was reading the series for the first time and I think we were meant to be on Jessis side.
But as an adult I think she was an immature brat in this book. Cecilia wasn't all that bad. If someone was back talking to me the way Jessi was to her I would have grounded her.

Aunt Cecila doesn't know how not to do aggressive body language. Every single cover makes her look like she's about to smack someone with a wooden spoon. Again with the USA clothing. The volcano! Haha, that is quite a sweatshirt that Jackie is wearing. Titles: Unexpected visit for Jessie Jessi’s guardian Jessi’s anger Jessi and the terrible Aunt Cecilia (Ouch, lol)

This is kind of weird, but I appreciate how they got the scale right. On the original cover Jessi and Aunt Cecelia were almost the same size, but this one definitely looks like an adult and child.

Haha, that is quite a sweatshirt that Jackie is wearing. Titles: Unexpected visit for Jessie Jessi’s guardian Jessi’s anger Jessi and the terrible Aunt Cecilia (Ouch, lol) In all honesty, I'm not a fan of the UK covers, but I think this is one of Jessi's better covers. Pretty much how I pictured her aside from the patriotic shirt. Weirdly, I think this one is the must enjoyable Jessi book so far. I do think it's absolutely crazy that they moved Aunt Cecelia in so fast. Is it even necessary for her to move in immediately (and completely, like she couldn't put some things in storage)? I'm with Jessi, I'd be annoyed if she put her crap in my room. Jessi should've gone to the meeting. I understand her not calling her mom (it really wasn't an emergency), but she should've just gone ahead. Not only that, but her meetings and sitting jobs should have been discussed beforehand. Science fair subplot was meh. It was a watered down version of the much more entertaining Little Miss Stoneybrook plot, and while Jessi taking over the project was realistic, I felt bad for Jackie. While I did mostly like this one, I thought the ending was SO rushed. Aunt Cecelia saying she felt she wasn't as good a sitter as Jessi was absolutely ridiculous and made no sense. My only thought is that maybe she felt bad for her behavior and was trying to make her feel better? I do like that she got back at them for the practical jokes, although I just realized that this plotline was repeated in Baby-sitters Remember. I liked that Island Adventure was referenced a lot in this book, although it feels ridiculous to read, "She was stranded on an island for two days" being mentioned almost casually, like it wasn't a completely traumatizing experience for Becca. Honestly, that didn't affect anyone as much as it should. Some of them would definitely need counseling.
