I just read this book for the first time and I think it might be one of my favorite Jessi books. I agree with macca, Kristy was SO annoying that I couldn't help but root for Wendy. I noticed that they never actually explained the rules of the club to her. I mean, being on time is sort of a given, but they NEVER said she had to offer jobs around to the entire club until they found out she was babysitting for her neighbor that day she was late to the Pikes'. How was she supposed to know? Also, it's ridiculous anyway! She should not have been expected to hand her clients over to the BSC. I mean, they obviously want HER to babysit, not some random girl from the club she's in that they don't even know.
Anyway, there's this one part when Jessi is babysitting at the Pikes' where Vanessa tried to put curlers in her hair and they get stuck and Jessi ends up having to cut them out of one side of her head. So they describe it as half of her head having nice curls and the other half as very choppy and short. Then Jessi braids the hair she had to cut, so Vanessa's got one half of her head curly and the other half with short braids in it. Supposedly this looks super cute.
I hated how Kristy was rude to Jessi and said "I can't believe you're even friends with her!" after Wendy left the club. I know, Kristy, I can't believe Jessi would dare to have a friend outside of the club!! Does Wendy show up in any other books?

I just read Don't Give up Mallory and noticed that Jessi mentioned that someone said something to "Wendy Loesser" or however you spell her last name (it kind of reminds me of loser - wonder if that was intentional.) As for Vanessa's hair in this book, I had forgotten about that. I'll have to reread - taht does sound like quite the look. Did Jessi cut the hair herself? I would be quite thrilled to be Mrs. Pike and come home to that - what a responsible baby sitter cutting your kid's hair without asking. My little cousin's babysitter did this to my cousin and it made me (and of course her mom) a bit angry.

Yeah, Vanessa got some curlers stuck in her hair so Jessi went in and chopped it off. I thought that was a little rash and she should have at least let somebody else try to get the curlers out before cutting Vanessa's hair! Also, if I were her I definitely would have waited until the Pikes got home and let them deal with it.

The BSC do seem kinda Gestapo-like in this book, telling tales on each other, being extra strict about lateness and rules than usual... at one point I expected Kristy to get a gun out and shoot Wendy!

I could see both sides of the situation in this book. On one hand I thought Kristy was going over the top being too extreme with rules, but on the other hand I thought Wendy was really irresponsible.
I felt so bad for Mallory in this book. I know what it is like to have mono and it is NOT fun at all. It was the worst I ever felt in my life.

My boyfriend claims that he had mono when he was 19 and only had to miss 3 days of school and work. Are some cases of mono mild like that? I always thought Mal's experience with it was basically what all cases are like.

Gathering from what my doctor told me, and other people I know that had mono it lasts for months. Mine went on for months and I defiantly missed more than 3 days of school. I think mine lasted about 5-6 months. I had it BAD.
Some cases probably last shorter than others, it probably depends on how well the person's immune system is.

Mine lasted several months. I missed an entire month of school too. The effects took a long time to wear off. I was tired all the time.

^ Did you do a face plant into your mashed potatoes? If I did that, I'd probably just pretend I was really, really hungry.

Just read this one for the first time. For once the subplot didn't bore me to tears. I loved the whole thing with Margo and shoplifting. I sympathized with her because I did the same thing one time when I was little (I stole a Barbie that was on display near some sunscreen. My mom did pretty much the same thing as Mrs. Pike).

I just came on to post about the subplot on this one as I just read it yesterday and always forget what the subplots are in it. I liked it that Margo had a subplot for once and liked how Mrs. Pike handled it (though I couldn't relate to her). What I could really relate to and sympathize with was Mal being tired and everyone kind of being on her (though I know they were just trying to help) to start feeling better. Also differ from most on giving Kristy a little more sympathy because I also can't tolerate lateness and anything that I might see as irresponsibility and would probably have been pretty angry with Wendy, myself. As Kristy knew, what Wendy did reflected on the club as a whole. The one thing that bothers me, though, is how she is mad at Wendy for being late but then Shannon breezes into the meeting after Wendy with a "hi, sorry I'm late" and Kristy doesn't get as angry with her. I see this as an example of Kristy being more lenient with Shannon, though, which I mentioned in Shannon's thread. What I really liked was the Barrett kids - Suzi, especially. Snow White and the Seven Zorbs is priceless as is "think again, Buckaroo!" These are some of my favorite "cute charge" lines. ;D
