I agree. Wendy shouldn't have come to the babysitting jobs late but Kristy should've have been such a dictator about the club.
I'm glad that Jessi remained friends with Wendy. And I thought it was nice when Jessi said to Wendy, "One good friend in California is enough" because it showed that Jessi considered Dawn to be a good friend and that she considered Wendy a good friend.

I am re-reading and wondering what Mr. Ramsey thought of having to RUSH Jessi to Claudia's house every Friday evening? We were never told (were we)? what time her dance class was held? I'm guessing Jessi gets home from school shortly after 3. If she has a quick snack and gets ready to go to ballet by 3:30, it's supposedly a 30 minute drive to Stamford (who drove her btw--Aunt Cecelia)? So the actual ballet class, at the earliest started at 4 and ended at 5. If that's true, it sounded like Mme Noelle was a stickler for the clock, there's no way, Jessi could have even washed up (let alone maybe showered) after ballet, changed her clothes, and made it back to Stoneybrook before or right at 5:30. My head is spinning now from all this! My point in the above was why wouldn't Jessi's Dad, especially, or any of the elder Ramseys have simply told Jessi to either give the BSC her weekend-early following week schedule either at the Wed BSC meeting or even Thurs or Fri at school. At the Fri meeting, someone could have always *gasp* called Jessi at home before 6pm to make sure whatever job she was scheduled for was okay. Wouldn't that have made more sense? Unrelated to the above, this is the book where Kristy (has the nerve, imo) to tell Mrs. Wilder that she (K) "can't talk" then because the meeting (it was 5:25) had not yet begun. If I were Ginger Wilder, I'd have at least been taken aback by such a remark! That was way different than supposedly Mrs. Barrett calling "whenever." Finally, total and complete and to Mr. and Mrs. Pike for not taking Mal to see the doctor sooner! Surely, Dr. Dellenkamp has hours for "emergencies or as needed?" If not, I remember in one book Vanessa said Dr. D. was part of a 3 doctor practice. Dr. J might have even been available. Someone, something, other than letting Mal's obvious (and sudden) constant exhaustion go on aimlessly.

I thought it was fine of Kristy to tell Mrs. Wilder that...she might think it would be okay to keep calling earlier and earlier, and the clients should respect the meeting time. Kristy's just doing it in the name of organization, I think it's part of what makes her such a good president.

^Maybe it was how "I heard it" or the fact that so much of this book is over the top.

At the Fri meeting, someone could have always *gasp* called Jessi at home before 6pm to make sure whatever job ahe was scheduled for was okay. Wouldn't that have made more sense? amen to this. 5:00 traffic (especially on friday) is busy and crowded, and it's ridiculous to expect to get anywhere in a hurry. jessi could have easily been 5 or 10 minutes late (or missed the entire meeting like you said) and taken on a job. MA is supposed to be awesome at knowing everyone's schedules so it shouldn't be a problem scheduling jessi for a job if she isn't there. even if an emergency ballet rehearsal came up, jessi could call before the meeting to let them know her new availability. i guess kristy has to be shown taking the club super seriously, so they couldn't just let jessi be late to the meetings, but it wasn't handled very well. i think a big part of taking something seriously (like the club) is being flexible enough to make it work for everyone.

The way I see it, Kristy and the Originals decided on the club guidelines together. Anyone who joined after the four knew the rules prior to joining. They could have addressed any issues they would have at that time and possibly work out a compromise. Kristy didn't have to "hire" Jessi as one of her workers if she was not going to be able to meet all the requirements of the job. Lol, obviously I agree with Kristy that it was "more like a business than a club".

^ITA Oldhickory. Also wouldn't the club want to make sure it worked for all its members? (Not only in terms of the business but as friends)? I agree with Kristy that because they do only meet 3 times a week for half an hour (which both seems like a lot but for the parents of Stoneybrook probably isn't), members should definitely be on time. I prefer to be early or on time. I just think sometimes, life happens or in Jessi's case, there's going to be a scheduling conflict. Since Jessi's is "regular" and never changes that could have made it easier to handle. I guess none of the others (except briefly Mal with that creative writing class) ever had any type of scheduling conflict.

What I found odd is that they really didn't tell Wendy the rules so how in the heck should she have known? I do agree that punctuality is super important and shouldn't be taken lightly, but I really think Kristy could take it easy especially if she knows that someone like Jessi is coming from her class.
I loved how Jessi is shocked that anyone would defy Kristy. Soooo funny!

They never even told Wendy how the club worked let alone any rules. That did show them as frazzled 13 year olds instead of the mini adult business-women they later became. Possibly later in the series, they'd have given her a printed out info sheet, possibly to sign, before her first meeting even! That was funny about being that scared of Kristy. I wonder if Kristy would kick Jessi out due to traffic or if she and/or her dad told Kristy no more Friday meetings unless ballet class was re-scheduled. If Wendy could (would want) be on time, counted on for jobs, she should have been made an associate, even a temporary one.

She would have made a good associate member, she had no problems with babysitting.

Maybe Ann just hates the name Wendy and it was too late to change it

^What does that have to do with anything? Unless Ann didn't want to "see" the name Wendy on a BSC flier/book back cover? She could have "forgotten" and changed it to Elizabeth or Grace. Maybe one of those was W's middle name and lol suddenly W decided that was a "cooler" name than Wendy.

Yeah I do, when I first got this book thats the impression I got that Wendy would be like. She should have been given a fairer chance. When Wendy is mentioned in a later book I think the one where Mal leaves for boarding school, they say she was a disaster which isn't true she was just not used to the BSCs strictness and rules.
