I can see how you would really like it. There were definitely parts of it that I liked really well, even though it isn't my favorite. One of the parts I enjoyed most was reading about writing and directing the play for the kids because I would love to do this or have done this. I also did see where Mal was coming from and could relate to her and liked how she got to work with her idol. Also was glad she got a mention in Henrietta's book ;D I also thought the play about the Pikes was really funny and so was their response. I was glad that the Pike kids' friends stuck with them. I guess it just kind of bothers me when people don't see the difference between fiction and reality, though I admit now that I think of it that I probably do this too ;D I think that kind of ruins the whole book for me and I'm not even sure why. I do like it more every time I read it, though, and admit that I was already biased against it this time. Maybe if I had a different attitude from the start, I would have a different impression. I will have to read again soon and see what I think.

I don't know why, but I always loved that Claire's picket line "disguise" was her Minnie Mouse mask from Halloween. It just seemed so perfectly five-year-old.

^ I had forgotten about that but it is really cute ;D The whole Pike picketing scene made me laugh even more than usual this time.

I didn't like this book at all, mostly because I wanted to smack Mallory repeatedly the whole time. She didn't think that play would upset her family? Really? And she was mad that Ms. Hayes didn't write about her life and lied?! What the hell. If she can't grasp the concept of fiction, even at age 11, she should never even remotely consider being a writer.

Mallory's play is the saving grace of this book, imo. So absolutely hilarious. I love how Claire wanted to still be called Delaware, hehe

^ That was cute. ;D I never saw "Delaware" as being that close of a name to Claire but I guess what else could she have used? It was kind of funny how the play was so obviously about the Pikes and they revolted ;D My favorite thing about this book was that Danielle showed up again. I wish she would have been in more books.

Oh my lord. Okay i'm posting this before I see what others have written, so bare with me (or is it bear? dang I feel like claud right now... that's confusing)... ANYWAYS This is probably the first book where I wanted to literally strangle Mallory. She seemed SO OOC for me. I dont even think an ELEVEN year old would behave the way she did towards Henrietta. I dont think I would've gone so bananas discovering that my favorite author wrote about a seemingly perfect family when she had a crappy childhood. My lord. Give the lady a break. she should know as an author, that yes, peopel write from their experiences, but uh... surely she doesn't think that JR. Tolkein (the Pikes are apparently are fans of the lord of the rings) was actually a hobbit or something? Anyway, I'm sure you get my point. I actually like the subplot in this, even though I was really exacerbated with Mal. Even though I think her sibs went a little overboard, I can kind of see their point. (Mal saying it was true to life? overly exaggerated more like it, and what would she have thought of her mother seeing it?) i wonder though.. what the hell was charlotte doing in the play to begin with? woo. Okay. I'm done ranting

^ Did Charlotte get stage fright in this one? Can't remember what she did but it's weird that a kid with severe stage fright would be in a play. I've been thinking about rereading this one. Maybe I need to now. ;D

Yeah she got the role of the mother (aka mrs. pike) because it was only a few lines. they had to tell her to keep speaking up. .. and wen the performance came she spoke so quielty that mallory doubted whether anyone could hear her... She was also kind of grating in this one, and I like Charlotte. Complaining over playing hte part of a 5 year old? (or reading it anyway when they were doing read throughs). I guess that's normal eight year old behavior so i can excuse it, but it seemed a lil OOC for charlotte to me...even though I can see an eight year old doing that... okay i'm rambling.
Another thing I noticed. Mallory said claire was 4. say who? I think it was in this book that said that when Mrs. Pike was pregnant with Claire she had six oher kids to take care of. Did one just seemingly disappear or something?

^ The Mrs Pike and 6 kids thing was in Mary Anne and Too Many Babies. I like Charlotte as well but her stage fright can be inconsistant sometimes. In this case, I always wondered why she wanted to be in the play as opposed to making decorations... then being really quiet on stage and not wanting to perform.
I like this book but after a year my opinion has not changed. I still think that Henrietta Hayes should have shoved that typewriter up Mal's ass! ;D

Ahh that explains it. Lol I downloaded a bunch of ebooks and I read those two like back to back... (or with a book in between them... ors ometihng... anyway i read them BOTH yesterday haha)
hehe liss i agree.... I guess she forgave her since mal was a kid and kids would be kids... (even though we get the impression that they're much older) Had it been someone older (even I'd say the older BSC member's age. I doubt she would've been as forgiving.

Hahaha, these comparisons will never stop being funny! I love this thread.
Mallory was obviously born a mini-adult ;D
And after a year, that is still hilarious!! ;D

The inconsistencies in this one are probably what annoyed me the most - also noticed the Claire being 4 thing. As for Char doing a bad job performing, I guess it's good she at least tried. This makes me think of when I worked as a teacher's assistant for 5th graders and one of my jobs was to work with kids before the Christmas program and one little girl (who reminded me a lot of Char) was so shy and quiet that I had to continually say "SHOUT BRITTNEY!" to get her to speak in a normal voice. ;D With a lot of work, she did manage to do it but I also had to sit in the audiance where she could see me and keep signaling to her to be louder. I feel for kids with stage fright as it's never been an issue for me. ;D

Oh, OF COURSE the author lives in Stoneybrook. And OF COURSE the artist Claudia loves (in the mystery book - something about the Missing Art) lives in Stoneybrook. EVERYONE just happens to live in hole-in-the-wall Stoneybrook. I heard Madoonna was house shopping there last week.
