She says that she had wanted to write a foster children story for awhile, and had decided that #35 would be it and called Stacey and the New Kids on the Block. But then NKOTB got really popular and Ann and her editors got "excited" about an idea for a mystery for #35 and so decided to postpone the foster children plot. I was like, they didn't mention this back of the book. (The library got the old version.) Oh, cool. They have to become famous? (I'm kidding) Ann could change name the of the title. If, she wanted it. Have the sub-plot of BSC going to the concert at New kids on the block. Oh, well. Maybe someone will write fan fiction of it. I didn't care for this book. Some parts I like. Emily Michelle looking for David. BSC having a sleepover. Karen, Hannie, & Nancy making a playhouse. Lou is disturb child. The way, she said *I hate you", to Hannie. really creep me out. Just like the cat in the pillow case. Swinging in the air. It's like, if she doesn't get TLC. Later on, in life, she might turn into a serial killer. Sub-plot was okay. Of course in BSC land. All Celebs wrote to them. Send them stuff.

I kind of like this book a lot. I was kind of a wild child when I was little like Lou, so I can easily relate to her.

I reread this recently and noticed that the Baby-sitters acted like it was so odd and unreasonable for Lou to insist on being called by her nickname instead of Louisa. What's up with that? I'm pretty sure Stacey would totally freak out if you called her Anastasia, and I don't think Kristy likes to be called "Kristin," either...

^Kristy was a tomboy, but she still has a ponytail and a girly name. I always thought the club might have been a little thrown off that Lou was a rather butch little girl.

Sophie Craine's suggestion that the BSC get "Big Bird," to attend the SMS Auction was the high-light of this book for me this time around. I had forgotten the Craine's made an appearance.
"Pizza talk." At the top of page 106 the BSC is having pizza at Kristy's house. One pie has everything the other "super vegetarian" (We are not told what exactly that means). It sounds like one pizza for Dawn and maybe Stacey and the rest for everyone else? Somehow that doesn't seem fair or that the treasury should pay for all of Dawn's pie.

I assume a super veg was a fancy way of saying it had all the vegetables that the place offered as toppings. If the other pizza had everything on it, then they were the exact same pizzas except for meat products on one. I don't think any of the girls were so carnivorous that they'd refuse to eat a piece that didn't have a pepperoni or sausage stuck to it. Dawn gets crap constantly, but no one ever tells Kristy to shut up and stop acting like a healthy meal is dog food.

Also, some of the other girls - besides Dawn and Stacey - could manage to scarf down a veggie slice. It's not like it would kill them!

^Both good points. It just seemed all too often the girls did get food only for Dawn, knowing she was the only one who would eat it. Maybe this is just me being fed up with Dawn never thanking Claudia or anyone for specially buying her food yet being all too ready to jump on the junk food.

^ You're right though. If we talk about pizza specifically, let's say that the girls order for delivery. Chances are they will get a big pizza to share (XL or party size) and then Dawn would get a small or medium (all to herself) or a salad or something. But the fact is they would have to pay separately for Dawn's meal.

Sometimes Stacey would eat the same things Dawn was eating, but it's true that Dawn didn't seem to care that people went out of their way to get special food for her and would just attack what the other girls were eating, often very rudely.
I felt bad for Lou in this book, and don't think she should have been being left with young teenage babysitters.

^That is what I meant, thank you, for making it much clearer! I think the BSC treasury should chip in an equal amount of $ for Dawn (same as they do every other member). Dawn should pay the rest, end of story, no "arguing" over who pays what or toppings. Everyone is hopefully happy and can enjoy the "party."

^I still don't think it's her fault that she's in the minority. They won't eat her food just as much as she won't eat theirs.

I think a group home may have been a better setting for her, and she should have not been left in the care of 13 year olds considering her situation and barriers brought on by her behavioural issues. They could have asked a child & youth worker to stay with her when they were out. I'm sure she was triggered with too many kids being in the household, since she missed her brother.

Because we were talking about Dawn a bit earlier in the threat, I first read this and thought you meant *Dawn* should be in a group home, haha.

^So did I for a second. After all, she does have behavioural issues. She stole her father's credit card and used it to buy a plane ticket across the country!
I was originally going to type "She stole her father's credit card and used it to fly across the country!" but then I got a mental image of Dawn on a very tiny flying carpet made of inflexible plastic...
