^So did I for a second. After all, she does have behavioural issues. She stole her father's credit card and used it to buy a plane ticket across the country! I was originally going to type "She stole her father's credit card and used it to fly across the country!" but then I got a mental image of Dawn on a very tiny flying carpet made of inflexible plastic... haha I was just going to reply to virgo with that: credit-card stealing, ghost hallucinating, block-gluing Dawn needs a group home! haha

Heh - dawn in a group home!
So my mind must be in the gutter b/c they were describing the stuffed pickle sari had and I was thinking of a vibrator I had once seen!
Anywho, I really felt for Lou. I would have thought kristy would have been a bit more understanding with her own father disappearing. It's sad that Lou never really got close to anyone in this book. I did like how the puppy made her break out a little.
Did anyone else find the auction ridiculous? No big stars are going to send things to a middle school for them to buy computers. Very unrealistic! Also, the bsc babysitting hours came in for more money than anything else...please!

I can't wait to reread this, but I never thought of Lou as the "worst kid ever". She wasn't the best, but she didn't seem like she was exceptionally hard to deal with. My strongest memory is Mary Anne on the phone saying "Cam! Cam! Cam!" over and over. That was in this book, right, when she got Cam Geary's jacket?

I think I missed something...who were the Crainie girls? I've missed two books in my reread so they've appeared before?
I didn't mind this book too much I liked Lou even with her troublemaking.

The Craine girls first appeared in Mallory and the Ghost Cat. Ahh...I'll be downloading some more mysteries soon then. Only just downloaded the first mystery. Thanks.

I'm prepared to duck from tomatoes being thrown my way but did anybody laugh at this..
Things were going along smoothly until Dawn turned her back and Lou scooped up some batter and, instead of eating it, flapped it on top of Hannie’s head. “Cowpie, cowpie, Hannie’s got a cowpie on her head,” sang Lou.

Yeah, I laughed. It's not the nicest thing in the world but it's hardly worst kid ever territory. And cow pies are hilarious to kids. My brother has nine-year old twins and my sister has 9 and 6 year old girls and they all think it's hilarious to shout "Guess what? Chicken butt! Guess why? Cow pie!" at each other.

Who was worse, Lou or Danielle when she was better?

Why were they turning the donating thing into competition? It's not about who donates the most or best but they never learn.
I felt sorry for Lou. She wasn't that bad. They just needed patience. Whichever ghost writer who wrote this book needed to do their homework in fostering.

Yeah, this is one of the books like the Secret of Susan where it's just like, maybe a bunch of inexperienced 13 year olds aren't the best possible option for your high needs child/foster child.
I work in SEN (although in the UK, maybe the rules are different in US or were at the time of writing) and I seriously doubt that for a placement other than emergency that you'd a) place a kid in a house with three other kids, and ones quite close to Lou's age, particularly a toddler like Sari and b) that they'd literally drop the child over with no visits beforehand.
It's also odd to think Kristy and Mary Anne both want to be teachers when they're so tactless and judgemental in this one. Maybe Dawn was giving lessons?

All the Kindle books have the updated covers, and this one is probably one of the least necessary. They made Lou's overalls hot pink. Wtf? She actively hates pink in the book.
I sort of disagree on the title. From the BSC's perspective, Lou really is the "worst" client so far. The wording is just a bit insensitive. The animal teasing and rampage (including destroying the 3M's clubhouse when the 3 girls had been nothing but nice to her) did sound like a nightmare. Despite this, I did sympathize with Lou. I just think she needed a LOT of help. No one would be able to handle the death of a parent, the other abandoning them, then being separated from their sibling (and their dog running away, holy crap they just piled on the sad in this) in such a short amount of time.
Why did the Papadakises get so many sitters during this time? I think that's a problem with the format of the series- in order for some plots to be plausible, you have to have kids who need sitters a lot. So it makes the parents look bad, like they're not spending any time with the kids (particularly with Watson, who, aside from needing sitters all the time, actually seems great). It's not always that bad, but sometimes (like this time) it stands out. That couldn't have been great for Lou, who probably needed a more consistent environment. Maybe it wasn't a big deal like I'm making it out to be.
It's cool to have another tomboy character. It's kind of weird that more of their charges aren't tomboyish, even among the Krushers. Almost every girl seems stereotypically girly.
Weird stuff: Mal also says she's done with the Barretts for awhile, and Kristy says (in text) it's because they're the Impossible Three. Ffs, it was never the KIDS that were the problem, but Mrs. Barrett. This has come up several other times in the series and it irks me because it's like the ghostwriters just saw the title and assumed the kids were difficult. In my opinion, the BSC rarely sit for truly "difficult" kids.
Right before sitting for the Papadakises, Mr. Papadakis complements her on her punctuality. Then Kristy muses, "Some of our clients (I won’t say who) only comment on what goes wrong, instead of what goes right. (But we know we must be doing a good job because they keep calling the BSC back.)" WHO? Which clients are like this? Say who, Kristy, I'm so curious! Who do y'all think she's talking about? None of their clients really seem fussy like that. Maybe the Ohdners? Lol. Or maybe the Hills.
"Sari completed her ensemble by grabbing her latest favorite toy, a plush green pickle with yellow felt eyes and a big red felt smile. (Personally, although Dawn is a vegetarian, she felt the pickle was sort of scary.)" Idk why this stands out to me as so weird, but it does.
It's mentioned that Mal is the secretary. Cool. Is this the only time aside from #53? Even Mal herself didn't mention it in her last 2 books. You'd think it would be a bigger part of her life.
I feel alone in this, but I didn't really get invested in the auction subplot. It was okay. I do like seeing the rivalry with Cokie. I guess I was just kind of... confused? Why was this a competition? Was participation mandatory? It seemed like the BSC was so stressed about it, so stressed they had a sleepover and an emergency meeting at lunch about it. It felt a bit unnecessary to be that stressed. Maybe I missed something; I myself have been stressed so I think my reading comprehension is even worse than usual. But honestly, I don't see this happening in my middle school, and even if it did, kids wouldn't have cared as much as the BSC did.
Man, this post feels so fragmented and weirdly written. I'm sorry, I guess that's just how my mind has been lately.
