^ I remember that, too. Moments like that show just how different Abby and Anna are. I think they make a good balance for each other because of this but can sometimes run into problems with it, too.

Yeah. Like when she was watching some orchestra on TV and Abby was like "OMG sad depressing boring slow" and wanted to turn it off. Agh I wanted to throttle Abby during that scene! Poor Anna, she wanted to listen to her music and Abby forced her to play some stupid video game from what I remember.

^ haha yeah abby drove me crazy with all those stunts. and of course, the winter carnival bored me. i actually was pleasantly surprised by alan gray's reaction to knocking over anna, though. i felt so bad for him when abby went off on him.

^ I also liked Alan's reaction. I thought he was actually being really nice and also felt for him. I like Alan and he's always great comic relief for me - even as the victim I guess since I thought this scene was funny even though it made me mad.

I would get mad too if I didn't find Abby so ridiculously obnoxious that she was almost funny. Except I do feel terrible for poor Anna.

I wasn't mad, just not particularly interested in reading about abby being obnoxious for 100 + pages.

^ I guess annoyed would be the better word since that's how I get, too. That's actually what I meant - Claudia moment where I can't find the right word. ;D Totally understand, though, about not wanting to read a character being obnoxious (unless I can find a way to laugh at them but sometimes I'm not in the mood ;D)

This is the first Abby book that I enjoyed. I've only read three Abby books total, but at least now I know I'm capable of liking them. I agree with everyone that Abby's actions were totally predictable. I liked that when she went to Gloriana's for a haircut we were reminded once again about Karen's awful hairdo. That story was becoming a legend in Stoneybrook. ;D
I've read Deenie a few times a long time ago but was probably too young to digest everything. I remember the similarities between Deenie and Anna standing there in those sheer body stockings getting their casts made. It sounded rather humiliating. I wouldn't want my sister in the room with me, twin or not. The Milwaukee brace looks like something out of a horror movie.
I didn't mind the sub-plot either, mostly because so little time was actually spent at the festival. I just didn't get why no one on Bradford Court parked their cars in their garages during the winter. One thing that bugs me in this and all the time in LS books is when there's a snow day the kids are driven all over the place. School was cancelled because the roads were bad, so stay home and watch junk TV like normal kids on a snow day, ya know?

Does anyone notice how it looks as if Anna is wearing her brace on the cover. You can kind of see a little lump in her sweater and her body looks slightly more "bulky" than Abby's.
If it's true, it shows inconsistency with the storyline because Abby's hair is longer. Abby cut her hair BEFORE Anna got to wear the brace.

^ Maybe the artist didn't read the story?
I kind of liked this book after this current reread. I snickered at the part where Kristy and they were shocked at being referred to children. And man, Jessi implying that the weather being 40 degrees wasn't cold reminded me about how different it is to live in California than it is to live in the upper East Coast. I agree with those who say that their trips to the mall are always fantastic. I don't know, it would have been a nice change of pace for me if the Carnival would've stayed cancelled in my opinion. They don't have to always have events turn out successful, do they?

I'm sure the artist didn't read the story, but you'd think it would be up to the creative department and the editors to ensure that what's written in the book is depicted accurately in the cover. In fact, in the one interview where a contest winner goes and meets Ann at her home ('90s), they specifically talk about that.

I want to visit Just Desserts! That is the store in the mall where Mary Anne and Jessi buy the fancy hot cocoa for the winter carnival. Love the name and lol sure sounds welcoming to me and a reason to go to shopping--not a favorite thing for me to do especially a huge mall like Washington Mall. I finished reading through both threads about this book and was surprised this reread (skipping over some of Abby's louder moments) I really did enjoy. I still wish this had been a book narrated by Anna. I could relate to her needing some down and quieter time to figure things out on her own. I do feel Abby meant well, except when she stopped listening. The shopping trip with Stacey really was a kind thing to do. Lol, I would like the baggy yellow and orange sweatshirts, though, still want one with a moon and stars. I realized that some of the clothes (bike pants and baseball cap) were much more Abby's taste than Anna's. The rest, I wonder if Anna didn't like not so much for the clothes but for her felling like Abby has taken over. I was thinking just now that while Abby is my least favorite of the sitters, some of her subplots sure are fun. Loved this one about the carnival and wish there had been more to it. What a nice surprise it was to discover the Pikes, Becca, Braddocks, and I believe Andrew, and Karen making a snow elephant on page 47. I did notice some one time new neighbors Mrs. Stellar (elephant), Mr. Bendix, and Mrs. Kent (I wonder if she was supposed to be Victoria's mom but don't think so). "don't let the winter drag on" the snow dragon's ad for the carnival always makes me laugh (page 80). Reading about the actual carnival was a lot of fun, too. Cute story. Sparklymouse, I never until just now reading your above post, gave any thought to why all the cars on Bradford and McLelland were parked outside! Same with Karen's Snow Day. IIRC. Watson's garage is at the back of his property and not attached to the house. I do think of it as enclosed though maybe for the book (Karen's Cartwheel)where Nancy, Hannie, and Karen clean the garage to raise money for the doll sisters. Maybe a lot of families like in their attics, had lots of stuff from previous families who had owned the house in their garage and so not a lot of room for cars? ETA: I could see this little girl being a BSC client and talking with her snowy elephant friend
