ITA about the Boston Tea Party. Maybe if Stoneybrook stopped assigning the eighth graders 50-page papers in English, they'd actually have some time to teach history. I may be biased (living in a very historically obsessed town), but I knew what the Boston Tea Party was in first grade.

^ Glad someone else agrees about not teaching enough history in US schools ;D The Freedom Trail was my favorite part (only part I liked, actually ;D) of this book. Are you from Boston, efrous? I would love to go back and walk the Freedom Trail again when it isn't 110 degrees ;D

I'm from Williamsburg, so the schools here have always emphasized Jamestown and the Revolutionary War.
I really want to go to Boston though.

^ Williamsburg is awesome too! That is my choice for a vacation spot next spring. We were there a few years ago and also visited Jamestown and Yorktown. This makes me think of how cool it would be to have a BSC book at Williamsburg (but probably just for me and other people who are into history ;D Everyone else would probably be bored with it ;D) What was the subplot of this one? I didn't care much for it but might have to reread as it has been a while. I did like the scene with the portrait being taken and could relate to being miserable on vacation because of arguing with family.

I've never been to the USA, but Boston is one of the places I'd like to visit

Yeah, when I was little I thought the Felicity books in the American Girl Series were awesome because I had been to all the places Felicity went to.
I think the subplot was the Barretts and the DeWitts fighting. What a surprise...

^ Hate Barrett-Dewitt fight subplots and think I remember this one now. The "family feud" trend, I guess. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who liked Felicity. Those books didn't come out until I was a bit older but I've always loved them and enjoyed seeing all of the places they talked about when we were at Williamsburg. And even though I'm 24 now, I just got an American Girl Felicity doll (and an Elizabeth and Josefina and hope to collect them all);D Sorry, Stacey, I'm "immature", I guess ;D

^I still read the American Girl catalog cover to cover when it comes! I think when I was little, my mom had as much fun collecting them as I did. The one I really covet these days is Kit. I just love her little bobbed hair and sweater set.
Topic? I'm narrowing down choices about applying to Ph.d programs for next year (I will either have a job I like much better or go back to school, I've decided!), and several of the schools I'm looking at are in Boston, for the serious and scholarly reason of yea! Living in Boston!

Add me to the list of Felicity fans! When I was a kid, my parents took me to colonial Williamsburg, and we went on this, like, Felicity tour. It was basically my idea of heaven.

Living in Boston! Tough choice, especially if you don't like your job or where you are now. What program would you go into in Boston? I'm not sure what it is known for academically. Didn't one of the books mention that the some of the girls went to Williamsburg? I think it might have been Mystery Train but am not sure.

Back in those days, there was only Kirsten, Samantha, and Molly, and I could never decide if I wanted Kirsten or Samantha. They used to sell every accessory for each doll in "Complete Collection" sets, but I didn't see that offered last time I looked at a catalog. I still totally want one of those dolls, but there's so many more to choose from that I don't know which I'd pick!!!

^ Just get them all ;D That's what I hope to do. Also, realized that in an earlier post I put I was 24. I guess I don't know how old I am (not that it really matters ;D) because I actually turned 25 a month ago. Claudia moment ;D Speaking of Claudia, are she and the other girls mentioned much in this book? Who sits for the Barrett-Dewitts? I seem to remember one of the sitters being Mal but that could be another book. So many Barrett-Dewitt subplots I lose track.

I was happy that the Schafer-Spiers talked things out at the end of this one. So often, they don’t seem to do this and sweep things under the rug and I think that’s where a lot of the problems come from. Jeff made me really mad, though. I know he was upset about the triplets but he was unfair to Richard and I thought Dawn was WAY out of line saying that Richard was “ruining Jeff’s vacation” when he was bending over backwards to be good to Jeff. I can understand why that made MA mad (even though she was no saint herself in this one).

I just love her little bobbed hair and sweater set. I still read the American Girl catalog too when it comes to my house every Christmas. It brings back memories of being little and pointing out what I wanted my mom to get for me for Christmas. I have Kit too and I just love her bobbed hair. I basically got her because at the time, she was the only American Girl doll with short hair . I went to Williamsburg too when I was like 9 or 10 but I don't remember going on the Felicity tour. All I remember from that trip is that it was like 115 degrees outside, our hotel pool water was bath-water warm and we saw a film on the Revolutionary War.
