Especially since it was meant to be their honeymoon even though Richard claimed it wasn't... it was After all all he and Sharon got before was one night at the flippin Strathmore Inn... then they had to move in the day after the wedding! Why such an urgency?! Agh BSC Land drives me crazy sometimes with its marriage/living together logic

^ If it was their honeymoon, I'm starting to think more and more that MA maybe DID think that they wanted their own room and wanted to sabotage that. ;D It's different to think about it in a hotel (to me, at least) than at home, though I'm not sure why other than I'm weird. ;D As for the BSC and living together, etc., I actually like that people don't live together before marriage but again, this is just me and my personal opinion and preference (and I'm sure part of a very tiny, probably nonexistent minority. ;D)

^ Not totally nonexistent...I like it too! I think it's probably good to have all different situations presented, though.

^ I think that in a way it's better to live with your partner before marriage. Because I think it's not until you live with someone when you find out your partner's habits and real side. That could partly be why the divorce rate is high, you don't realise what the person you're married is truly like until you start living together. I guess that's comparing to when Sharon and Richard got married. They realised they had a lot of differences that annoyed each other - Sharon's messiness/Richard's neat freakness, her taste for health food/his taste for meat, her relaxed attitude/his go-getting attitude, etc... If they didn't sort that out earlier on, their arguing could have worsened... Don't get me wrong, lots of couples do great when they move in after marriage (like Sharon and Richard do in the long term) and my auntie even married her first boyfriend who she never lived with until marriage and they're very happy. But my Dad has always advised me to live with someone first or at least spend a lot of nights at his house or him at yours so that you are sure that this is the person you want to be with for the rest of your life. I think the Monica/Chandler relationship in Friends is a great example of what I mean!

Actually, the divorce rate has become much HIGHER since living together before marriage became the norm - but there are many factors involved with that.
For the record, my hubby and I moved in together after we got engaged.

^ I was just about to quote the same stats that Macca mentioned about the divorce rate. ;D I won't argue on this, though, because I know I have pretty un-PC "traditional" and I guess old-fashioned beliefs when it comes to sex and marriage. I'm not condemning anyone else for theirs, though, and just like it when BSC books promote not having sex (not saying that you have to live together for that ;D but it makes it a "given" to the kids) Again, this is just me. As for this book, I didn't like it how Dawn and Jeff seemed to really gang up on MA, though she was a pain too. As an only child, I guess I felt for her a bit with not having anyone other than her dad (who really tried not to side with anyone) to back her up.

^ Oh, see, I thought MA was being so OOC in this book, the way she couldn't relate to Jeff at all. I mean, here's a kid who's 10 years old, lived in one place his entire life, before his parents decided that they couldn't get along for whatever reason and get a divorce. Bad enough, then his mother drags him and his sister across the country away from their father, all the friends they ever knew and their entire life. He finds a way to go back to his father, but while he's gone, his mother up and marries her high school sweetheart. Now, from Jeff's perspective, it looks a bit like the divorce was his mother's fault, so he's upset at her a little bit for tearing the family apart. He's mad at Dawn a little bit because she's fine and dandy with this strange guy living in his mom's house, doing whatever. And then he comes back for a visit, and he has to spend several days with Richard, who he doesn't know at all and is married to his mother. Uncomfortable? yes. To top it off, he's going through this thing with the triplets so he doesn't really have anyone his own age to hang out with, and Richard is really no fun at all. (To Jeff, not me. I would have all sorts of fun with Richard.) Mary Anne doesn't really take all that into consideration, she's just "Jeff's a brat." Also, while I am well known for researching places before I visit them, I do it so I don't look like a tourist. Mary Anne and Richard were embarrassing! I would have been so annoyed. That being said, I don't think the family feud was really anyone's "fault" Everyone acted poorly - Richard and Sharon for not making everyone do everything together, Mary Anne for not understanding anything about the fact that she moved into Dawn's life unexpectedly, Dawn for taking sides, Jeff for not growing up faster.
