Just read this one and really enjoyed it. The subplot cracked me up - especially some of Vanessa's rhymes to Nicky. I loved the twist with Alan Grey at the haunted house. As for the main plot, I really liked Logan. Usually he bugs me when with Mary Anne but I found him super sweet in this one. Mary Anne should have just told Mrs. Kuhn right away what was going on. I don't really understand why she wouldn't so I get why the other girls were mad at her. I guess there would have been no plot, though, if she would have just explained what was going on. Actually, I would have talked to Mrs. Kuhn before having Logan come over but that's just me and again, that would have taken away the story. I did like it, though.

I haven't read this one in years, but I remember as a kid being disappointed that Mary Anne didn't really break the rules and have Logan over for more sinister reasons ;D I wanted some BSC Scandal! As you said, if Mary Anne had just talked to Mrs Kuhn initially, there wouldn't have been a problem.

I was disappointed with this one like I was disappointed with Dawn's Wicked Stepsister. In that one I had thought that MA would have done worse things in order to be regarded as a "wicked stepsister." Thus I thought that she didn't deserve for Dawn to scare her, although that was funny. Likewise, in this one, she didn't do anything that bad. So ditto to the above. I also thought that she should have told Mrs. Kuhn sooner even if not from the first time it happened.

If I'd hired a babysitter who claimed to have her boyfriend over because my child missed their father and she hadn't informed me initially, I wouldn't believe it either. If the babysitter asked to have her boyfriend over because my child missed their dad, whether I said yes or not, I'd be highly skeptical. I know Mary Anne and Logan were wonderful, responsible sitters, but they were also a thirteen yr old 'couple'.

This was a bit disappointing. It would have been better if Mrs. Kuhn had come home and found them in a slightly more interesting position than sitting around the table with the kids sipping juice. I mean really whats to freak out about there? Its understandable how she might not want a stranger around her kids though. But obviously Mary Anne was doing something right considering how happy Jake had been. The other girls are complete witches in this. Once again "the best friends you'll ever have!" turn evil at the drop of a hat. They all knew MA hadn't done anything wrong, and fearless leader Kristy should've called up Mrs. Kuhn to explain what was really going on if she really thought Mrs. Kuhn was ruining the club's rep in the streets. And how surprising that Mrs. Kuhn didn't tell anyone what happened, but once she and Mary Anne straighten things out the BSC phone starts ringing off the hook!

Personally I think this book should've been a bit more juicy. Why couldn't MA have been bored on the job and asked Logan over for less wholesome purposes - you know, really have broken the rules. Even perfect, responsible 13 yr old babysitters are bound to mess up sometime.
The same thing happened in Stacey and the Missing Ring. Lame.

My favourite bit in this book was the scene near the beginning when Mary Anne keeps smiling because everything is so perfect. The pizza that her and Logan eat sounded really tasty

^That part is so sweet! I love how Mary Anne's perfect day includes a sub in gym -- when I was in elementary school, they never got us a sub certified to teach a phys ed class, so we just got to play the whole period.

I loved how bitchy the other girls got in this one. I feel like it was the perfect amount of irritated but still diplomatic -- much more so than in Stacey's Ring when Claudia searches Stacey's room! I can't really believe they made up so quick about that. It seems like a better thing to be angry about than most other long fights anyone in the BSC has!
This book drives me crazy, though, because it's one of the many that could have been straightened out so quickly with simple conversation. "Oh, sorry Mrs Kuhn, " Mary Anne should have said when Logan was caught at the house. "I absolutely should have cleared this with you first -- what a mistake I made! I promise you, though, my intentions were good and Logan is here for a reason. See, Jake told me he'd been ..." etc whatever.
But then of course, that would be a short book.

I was sort of a "Mary Anne" type when it came to confrontation, but in a case like this, even I would have spoken up right away and told the truth. Besides, it's not like Mary Anne and Logan were off by themselves neglecting the kids when they were discovered. Like someone else said, they were all together!

ITA Although I can understand Claudia's suspicion - what are the odds that Stacey would be sulking over not having a diamond ring and then one goes missing, what? The next night But still, Claudia was supposedly Stacey's best friend and had every right to be pissed. Yeah, same here. I do understand Mrs Kuhn being a tad suss though. In BSC land, a boyfriend would be over for wholesome reasons, but in a real life scenario, I'd be less inclined to believe it.

I like the mention of this book in Stacey vs. the BSC. Logan reminds Stacey of the Mrs. Kuhn incident when Stacey's busted for her long phone call with Robert while she's sitting for the Newtons. Nice to see some continuity/reference.
I thought Jake's instant attachment to Logan was lame and incredibly forced. Do all the young boys (the Rodowskys, Jake, whoever) instantly strike such a closeness to him?
Anywho...I do like the beginning when Stacey and Robert, all decked out in dressy clothes, join Mary Anne and Logan at Pizza Express. Robert and Logan could have become friends.

Once again the BSC ice someone out and have no faith in their supposed best friend. At least they admitted it in this one though. Or rather Shannon and Jessi did the "solid" members couldn't be bothered to do it. Kristy didn't even look at MA when she apologized.
It skimmed the sublot. I never like the special things the charges do.
I'm an MA type and I wouldn't cleared it with the parent first. They could've had Logan given permission to come over and then had Mrs. Kuhn catch MA and Logan in a quick goodbye smooch or something with Mrs. K flying off the handle about it.

i reread this book recently and really enjoyed it. comments:
-logan technically wasn't a "complete stranger", he WAS even a member of the bsc. -the plot seemed a little forced because once again, the BSC rejects a rational, talking-to-parents solution a la kristy's mystery admirer ("should i tell mom and watson what was going on? no, they'd probably think i was crazy). just SPEAK UP, women! -i also loved the description of mary anne's perfect day in the beginning and how she couldn't stop smiling. -there seemed to be a LOT more witty repartee in this book than the others, especially between the kids, especially nicky and vanessa. -alan gray cracks me up in this book. best line: "may i give you a hand, kristy?"

^ Totally agree Morbidda. It has always bugged me when the kids don't talk things over or tell things to their parents or other adults. But I guess I can't relate since I've always felt really comfortable talking to my parents and adults and tell my parents everything. This book has some of my very favorite Alan moments. I always forget this is the one where he helps the kids with the Haunted House. I had forgotten about MA's perfect day, too, but always enjoy that. I may have to reread this one really soon as I think it might be one of my favorites (if I don't let MA annoy me too bad by not just speaking up!)
