I thought it was lame how all the regular clients had really really good excuses for not calling the bsc during this time. So unrealistic.

Where it mentioned that the Barretts were visiting their dad? I know they were one time when they didn't call the BSC. Unrealistic or not, I'm glad they weren't mad at the club (because then it would have broken up maybe and the series would have ended or at least changed )

I absolutely loved the haunted house subplot in this (hated the main plot...stupid Mary Anne ). I probably would have preferred the haunted house at the Kuhn's, it sounded awesome. ;D

^ The haunted house was my favorite part of this book, too. I especially love it how Alan helps. Was that at the girls or the boys'? I can't remember anymore what either haunted house consisted of. I always love Halloween books anyway and even though this one isn't scary, it is one of my favorites to read that time of year. Agree, though, that MA is totally ridiculous. The first time I read it, she made me so mad but then I decided to take the approach of "it's just MA" and roll my eyes. She could have easily prevented so many of the issues that occurred in lots of different books if she would have just opened her mouth. But then there would have been no book because no plot, I guess ;D

I thought this book was SO boring. I literally skipped half of it (and this was my first time reading it!). I hate Halloween so the subplot was booooooring to me. I enjoyed MAs perfect days and stuff at the beginning and liked Stacey and Robert joining her and Logan at Pizza Express. some more MA/Logan, Stacey/Robert double dates would have been cool to see in books. Kristy was ridiculous. Why on earth were the girls all still soooo mad at MA when they AGREED with her that Mrs Kuhn was overreacting and that MA just needed to explain things? Also, the actual "issue" in this book lasts like 3 chapters, that's it. I just found this book to be incredibly boring and couldn't get into the main plot or the subplot at all.

It's funny...whenever the BSC does something that they think they're going to lose clients over, it turns out that their regulars were convieniently out of town. It happened in "Stacey and the Missing Ring," in this one, and I think at least one other time.

and they're always sooo paranoid that the clients are frantically calling one another in some elaborate phone-tree or something to fill them on the scandals the BSC get involved in. so ridiculous. those girls are really rather paranoid sometimes!

^ Agree. I think my favorite thing about this book (I do like Logan's relationship with Jake and reading about the Kuhn kids, too) is the haunted house subplot. Reminds me of how I always wanted to make one myself but was actually too terrified to go in a real one (I was Karen being led out of the haunted house through the emergency exit - literally - except I was about 11 ;D) I always like how Alan helps the kids and think it's funny Mallory asked him. Kristy had to have "loved" that ;D

First post. Hello! I seem to remember this book having quite a few risqué lines in it. I'm checking my LJ memories for the post... Found it. "[Logan]'s gentle and normal-sized and has other interests apart from sport"
Ooh, I say, Mary Anne... That's not all - I flicked through the next couple of pages and found the following anecdotes: "Kristy Thomas was the one who...experienced the hand first" "'Mm!-Mm!-Mm!-' grunted Kristy Thomas, pointing at the clock on Claudia Kishi's desk" "'Cool' said Kristy's mouth, while her eyes said ho-hum!" "'You have a natural form...and look at your turnout!'" - Jessi loves Logan's...dance skills. I don't really think this book is awful, but it's a bit puzzling at times. Why on earth doesn't Mary Anne just apologise and explain the situation straight away? I posted about this elsewhere, too... As with School Spirit War, here's what the story should have been: Mrs Kuhn: Mary Anne, have you been inviting Logan over for some hanky-panky without my permission? Mary Anne: No - I asked him if he'd come over to play football with Jake because I'm crap at games. Mrs Kuhn: Oh, okay then.
What it actually was: Jake: Stupid girls. I want to play football Mary Anne: Logan, come over and play football with Jake. I'm rubbish at it. Logan: Okay -- Mrs Kuhn: Er, hold on, Missy. Have you two been up to no good while I'm not here? Logan: See ya! Mary Anne: OMG I'm soooo sorry I lied, I'm a scarletwomanguiltyliarpedohussyMENTALCASE1111!!1!1! Boohoohoohoohoo! Mrs Kuhn: I'm watching you, biatch. Mary Anne: Boo hoo hoo! -- Kristy: Well, I had a call from Mrs Kuhn Claudia: We're soo not speaking to you, Mary Anne Kristy: Begone, sinner! Mary Anne: Boo hoo the ENTIRE TOWN turns against Mary Anne -- Mary Anne: Mrs Kuhn, I'm so sorry. I lied to you because I was trying to hide the fact that you're a crap mother who can't play football. Mrs Kuhn: sob You're right, I am a complete arsewipe. I should have known all along to place my complete trust in the judgement of the thirteen-year-old child who occasionally watches my sons. You're the best, Mary Anne! Mary Anne: Yes - yes, I am. The End
Oh, heavens. - Myu

I will have to re read this book soon, I remember not liking the main plot when I was younger, but the haunted house subplot sounds fun.

Alan was in this book? Wow, I skimmed more than I thought, I guess.

^ He helps one set of kids with their haunted house by lying in a coffin and popping up or something like that (it's been a while since I've read, too). Mallory says something like "I needed someone scary to help the kids and thought who could I call? Alan." (Something to that effect) It was much funnier, though, in the book. Now I can't wait for Halloween. This one always gets me in a fall mood. I think MA is totally stupid and she makes me mad but I really like the whole relationship between Jake and Logan.

alan gray NEVER steals the show as far as i'm concerned. I cannot stand him and would be more inclined to skim even MORE knowing that he is in the subplot
