^I think there was another very long paper in Mary Anne + 2 Many Babies. Or it seemed long to me when I read it...I can't remember how long it was off the top of my head, though.

When did recycling become trendy? This book was written in the early 90s. I don't remember recycling anything but pop cans when I was a kid and then suddenly there was a huge environmental push. I can easily see elementary aged kids or even Dawn being overly enthusiastic about an idea that's new to them. Now you have to recycle or you're basically an ass.

Yeah, that's true. And it might also be why Stoneybrook doesn't have recycling bins like we do now, and it was such a big effort to start a recycling centre. I thought it was pretty impressive how she managed to start the whole thing.
However, her eyebrows on the cover are scary.

This was my first BSC book ever and so I've revisited it many times. Come to think of it, I'm not entirely sure what the appeal was as Dawn's really not very pleasant in it, but it got me completely addicted to the series nevertheless

I liked when Claudia joked about the earrings she was making in the oven or the microwave or something (haha, I so can't remember. Was she going to shellack them?), and said Dawn would be glad to know they are biodegradable.
I've always liked this book, I'm not sure why. I liked the educational aspect of it, and thought their green fair sounded cute. I felt bad for Dawn when she got no credit for her ideas and then overheard Cokie badmouthing her. I can understand her being passionate about recycling, but I mean, she practically makes Mary Anne cry when she scolds her about wasting paper in the record book by only using one side. Intense. Although, Kristy calls her obnoxious at one point. I really wanted Dawn to have a retort for that. I mean, Kristy's bossed Dawn and the others around just as much.

Eek, I remember being really annoyed when I found out that Mary Anne only used one side of the paper in the record book. I hate it when people do that! The people that I work with are RIDICULOUSLY wasteful (one lady prints out a copy of every single email she receives, for no reason!) and I've considered "pulling a Dawn" and trying to implement a recycling program, but I know my co-workers would look at me like I'd sprouted an extra head if I suggested it. If only I were as individual as Dawn, I'd just yell at them and not care what they thought. Anyway, I should re-read this one, it's always been one of my favorites but I haven't read it in awhile. I didn't think it was fair that Dawn didn't get credit for her ideas, no matter how annoying she was.

Haha, "pulling a Dawn"! She had a good point, too, about the paper. The record book must have been stuffed full of too much paper, if it was a binder with looseleaf pages. How annoying.
I want to re-read this too. I forget if her teacher, Mrs. Gonzalez, asks her to co-chair in the end. That would make me feel a little better about the whole Dawn-not-getting-her-due thing since she obviously liked and admired Mrs. Gonzalez, and that would have been just sad if even her role model-y teacher had ignored her contributions.

Mary Anne only using one side of the paper in the record book would have driven me nuts, too.

I agree about just using one side of the paper. When I first read that I was like -- "...wha...??" that's extremely wasteful in my opinion.

booboobrewer (i love your user name, btw!), what book is the quote in your sig from? That's hilarious!
Now that you mention it, I think Mrs. Gonzalez did ask Dawn to co-chair, or something similar.

Thanks! It's from the movie, actually. The scene where Claudia's "studying" and Kristy's not paying any attention to her ;D

Not that it didn’t present a good message, but this one had a bit too much ecology stuff in it for me. It wasn’t bad, but just seemed like a lot of something I’m not extremely interested in. The sitting chapter with the Pikes was kind of funny but the rest of the stuff with the kids was just more ecology lectures, it seemed. I could not stand Dawn in this one. While her intentions were admirable, I thought she was really bossy and pretty much a jerk, yelling at everyone and being the ecology “police”. It got very annoying. I kind of felt for her when she heard Cokie talking but was surprised she took it so hard that it made her go in the bathroom and start crying. She must have really not realized what she was doing. Anyway, this one wasn’t very interesting for me but I didn’t hate it and it’s not among my very least favorites. I think Dawn is at her most annoying in this one, though. (at least my liking of Dawn is near its lowest)

Awww I read this one recently and it made me love Dawn even more! Sure, she is over-zealous but I find that endearing (much like I find Kristy's officialness to be endearing). Then again, I am a die-hard Dawn fan (as I can relate to her so much, which makes me feel odd on this board, lol, cause people seem to be anti-Dawn sometimes! haha) so I don't hate any of her books really. I like her enthusiasm!

^I always assumed they used either a spiral notebook (or many of them after a million years!) or a binder with loose-leaf paper, not an actual diary, but I guess a diary would make more sense because she needs the calendar-type pages. Hmmm now I'm confused!
