It's funny that people motivated by environmentalism and people motivated by frugality often end up at the same place! For example, cloth diapers. We use them {mainly) because they're less expensive in the long run than paper, but other people would choose them more to prevent the trash than to save the money!

That's funny, my sister and I have often discussed that very thing! She was cloth diapering her youngest for cost reasons, but knew many others who chose it environmentally. Same with the "reuse" part of reduce/reuse/recycle. Both of my grandmothers saved butter cartons and the like to store leftovers in, not because they wanted to keep them out of the landfill but because they saw no reason to spend money on containers for leftovers as long as their cottage cheese still came in a perfectly good carton!

My husband saves glass jars for that.

I have some glasses that were originally jelly jars; I kept them because they look more like drinking glasses than jars and figured why toss them out.

Like those jelly jars that had Tom & Jerry on them, about 30 years ago?

Years ago, when Muppets in Space came out. My mom is a huge muppets fan, so she collected them.

Like those jelly jars that had Tom & Jerry on them, about 30 years ago? The ones I have are just plain glass. When I was a kid we had a bunch of those Tom and Jerry ones and I loved them.

I've always said that I wanted to use cloth diapers, but people tell me that it's impractical and I'll change my mind as soon as I realize how inconvenient it is. So it's pretty cool to see that people do still use them! Gives me hope that I will be able to use them too when we eventually have kids.

Dawn is a little caricaturish but not too much and pretty entertaining (especially shouting "Are you crazy?" to Erica over a can); it was interesting that her concern was genuine but at one point it got tied in with (not) getting recognized. I liked that Stacey, Claudia and Mr. Spier (edit: and Charlotte too although that's not so surprising) also showed concern and even commitment without being extreme. Also interesting that Dawn initially started out trying to reform tuna fish catching rather than get a ban.

It was particularly impressive that even Cokie and Grace liked the recycling despite their dislike of Dawn.

I read this at the library during my temp job as a teacher's aide..I knew I was gonna be pissed off at how Dawn was shoving her beliefs down people's throats and her nazi-like behavior, thus giving non-omnivorous people a bad name, but I did enjoy the parts where people talked about her driving them nuts as well as when she was called on her bossiness.Though I had to raise an eyebrow at how she cried her eyes out when people disliked her attitude though she said she didn't really care if people hated her for her convictions.

This isn't bad except for the irony of the wall full of PAPER signs. You made a sign to say you saved a tree...

Perhaps Dawn managed to somehow find recycled paper and used that.
