I'm not sure what is going on here, but they are way too close to each other. Dawn just has her hand in a giant bowl of carrots. Title: Betty saves the Earth!

Okay so I actually have a lot in common with Dawn. I'm a (real) vegetarian, care a lot about the environment, love anything to do with ghosts, and (more so lately, although I have a sweet tooth) am really into health food. I generally like her, and early series Dawn is probably my favorite character (tied with Mallory).
I think, though, that this book marks a change in her character, when she starts being obnoxious. I kind of can't believe she didn't notice her behavior and how she was treating people. I totally agree with her cause in this and agree that things should change immediately, but she goes about it in the wrong way. Yelling at people, barking orders, argh. Not. Cool. I did feel bad for her when she overheard Cokie and Grace talking about her, though. That's rough.
I have to say that this book is very similar to Big Sleepover, but it's honestly much more interesting. As annoying as Dawn is in this book, that provides conflict, and it's pretty interesting to have the main character be the cause of the conflict. So it's not a boring book, unlike Big Sleepover. I am interested in the subject matter, though, and this book has some good ideas (like cutting plastic rings). I don't think I buy kids getting this into it, though, and found the Green School thing a bit OTT.
A few weird things I noticed: in the beginning, Dawn describes herself as outgoing and impulsive. I don't think she's particularly outgoing, sort of in between. Not Kristy or Claudia but not Mary Anne either. I don't know if at this point she did anything impulsive, but she absolutely is in We <3 Kids Club.
When they're planning out the class and transportation, Dawn says her mom can help out. How? It's on a weekday afternoon and she'd be working.
When they're going to the opening day for the recycling center, the four Schafer-Spiers sit in the front seat. Wtf? HOW? That's ALL kinds of illegal. And also practically impossible. I've never seen a car with more than 2 front seats. This happens earlier in the series too, with 3 people sitting in front. Are Stoneybrook cars built different?
Kristy is grossed out by talk about squishing bugs to the point where she has trouble eating her pizza. This feels OOC to me since she's always growing everyone out at lunch. Weak.
Lol at Stacey being a math whiz because she can multiply 2 x 10. Good lord. How did Dawn survive being treasurer for 15 books?
Dawn does get to co-chair, but she leaves the Brook (that's what the cool kids call it) in 10 books. Temporarily, but still. I'm not sure why, but this bothers me.
Sorry for the novel, but the weird things just stood out so much. It's fun to point out inconsistencies and WTF moments. I'll probably do that more often, since I can highlight stuff in the Kindle.
