I've run across a few FF stories that involve Logan ending up with one of the other sitters.

Kristy is a lesbian just because. I would love to read a fic where Kristy is a (straight) hottie on the police force in Stoneybrook and runs into problems with the women in town because they think she is sleeping with all the policemen. I mentioned in another thread that I think she would make a good police officer. I am too lazy to write this fic though "Safe at Home?" "Not Safe in a Small Town" or some such

Thanks! If I ever get around to writing a fic I'll know what to avoid.

Some of the BSC fan fiction I have read are terrible. I just want to read a good BSC fic about the girls grown up and the clients too. No cliches! I dabble in fan fiction myself (not BSC) but I'm want to start a BSC fan fic...

Start one and link it!
I must admit, from everything we've listed here it seems to be hard to avoid the clichés!

Mary Anne seems to be ALWAYS the victim in fan fictions. For Pete's sakes, would something bad happen to Kristy or Claudia or somebody else other than Mary Anne?! Poor Mary Anne... 2) Kristy is a lesbian. Seriously, where does everybody even get that idea?! Kristy likes quite a few boys in the series (Bart for the most part, Michel in European Vacation, MAYBE Alan Gray-after all, she did go to school dances with him in 7th grade). Kristy was actually more interested in boys than I did when I was 13...and I'm not a lesbian. 3) Emphasizing the fact that Jessi is black. I do agree that they make Jessi's skin color a big deal in the famous Chapter 2's but still...it's kind of annoying to call her Black Jessi instead of Jessi. (On an unrelated note, I think they make Watson being a millionaire a bigger deal IMO). 4) Like valuemeal2 said, the Babysitters do have cliche futures. I am SO sick of them. I think it's nice for the sitters to have futures based on their personalities but why not try something different (for example, Mary Anne becomes a fashion designer maybe with Stacey or by herself, Dawn could be a school cafeteria cook so that she could make healthier food, Kristy could be a school bus driver or an elementary school teacher, etc). 5)The sitters marry their middle school sweethearts. Especially Mary Anne. In every single fan fiction where Mary Anne is married, she is, of course, married to Logan. Even though Logan became sort of controlling later in the series, I always liked Mary Anne and Logan as a couple. But it's so unrealistic for them to marry (I know, it's fiction but still...). I would like to see Mary Anne marry Pete Black, Cary Retlin, or even Sam Thomas. 6)One of the sitters get pregnant (mainly Mary Anne, of course). 7) Karen Brewer is pursued as a REAL SPOILED BRAT. While she is a bit spoiled in the LS/BSC series, I never considered her a brat. I mostly thought of her as a sweet, funny little girl who is a bit on the manipulative side. Aren't all 7 year olds? I read a fan fiction from fanfiction.net and it was about 15 year old Karen acting like a baby so she gets treated like a baby. It was funny and I actually liked it for entertainment purposes. But in a lot of fan fictions Karen is, like, the most spoiled, brattiest baby ever. 8) Karen Brewer is a sl*t. In quite a few fan fictions, Karen dresses a tad bit slutty. I can see Karen dressing like a Stacey or a Claudia rather than a Kristy or Mary Anne but I don't see her wearing slutty clothes... 9) Byron Pike is gay. Honestly I don't see Byron gay at all. He's sensitive, true. But I'm confused where people get the idea Byron is gay. Whew. Okay, I'm finished ranting about the cliches in BSC fan fiction. Excuse me for the ranting. That was more than necessary. How true!!! Those fics pander to the popular stereotypes out there.

I have a few: - I've seen too many Logan Bruno is an abusive a-hole. Regradless of my personal opinions of the dude, characterizing him this way is dangerous in fandom. - Stacey is a garden hoe. OOC doesn't even begin to describe it. - A Pike family member (Usually Byron ) is gay. - A Pike family member is... Troubled. - Mary Anne lacks a spine - Kristy is a lesbian just because. Any other cliches I've missed? Here's another popular cliche...Stoneybrook being likened to a tiny, racially segragrated, class-stratified, backwards, conservative, small backwoods southern town, often with a huge country club circle added. It makes it sound like either a Sweet Valley book or a book of the backwoods south of the 1950s. In true canon, Stoneybrook is a large, progressive, open-minded town...and although some of its residents are well-to-do, most of them are not snobbish about it and Stoneybrook doesn't have the rigid 'class' divisions that the fanfiction cliches or the canon town of Sweet Valley have.

Stoneybrook is NOT a tiny, narrow-minded town. The women of Stoneybrook are mostly feminist and forward-thinking. Plus, Kristy would be FAR from the only woman on the police force; there are many other women in the Stoneybrook Police force.

And if Mary Anne did marry, it's unrealistic and cliched to have her marry anyone she knew in middle school. I think the BSC would marry people OUTSIDE Stoneybrook since it's more realistic that they'd take off to different cities and states after high school and meet different people and make new friends, despite keeping their bonds from the BSC going. That would be a much more realistic scenario for all of them. Agreed about Karen...and the BSC adored her...there are too many BSC fanfictions that depict everyone secretly 'hating' Karen, including not only the BSC, but some of the PARENTS...how unreal is that?

CNJ seemed to break the cliches. In her universe Stacey was brainy rather than a 'tramp' or the uber cool mean girl type. Mary anne was also strong character rather than a wimp or victim. She still cried alot and faced hardship but in the end she found inner strength. CNJ also didn't portray Claudia as 'brain dead' and Kristy as OTT bossy. Also none of the girls end up with their middle school boyfriends and don't have cliche careers but at the same time they had jobs reflecting their personality and strengths. I think Claudia did advertising art rather than being an artist for example and Stacy was an engineeer. Thank you, Jessi82! Yes! I try to keep the BSC in canon and free of stereotypes and predictable cliches.

CNJ had her own cliches, from what I remember. I'm curious, Greer. Elaborate. 😁

Another common cliche...Dawn and Mary Anne 'hating' each other.
And a variant of that one...Sharon and Mary Anne 'hating' each other!
And going with the popular Mary Anne-the-victim cliche is having Sharon and sometimes Richard being really mean to Mary Anne...some of those off-canon tales have Sharon and Richard depicted as borderline abusive!
In canon, if Mary Anne were ever treated that way, she'd contact a child abuse help group with her friends' help.
But the cliche of Mary Anne-as-the-victim, Mary Anne just is 'resigned' to parental mistreatment and no one does anything to help her.
In book canon, Richard loosened up lots early in the series...and even when he seemed 'strict' in early canon, it was out of overprotectiveness, not a malicious desire for overcontrol.
And Richard was NEVER harsh or punitive with Mary Anne; he was always gentle with her.
And in canon, Sharon was a bit absent-minded, but was a warm, excellent mum to Dawn, Jeff AND Mary Anne...she was NEVER mean to any of them.

The same forward-thinking town that produced girls who said Jessi didn’t belong and called her Mobobwee?
