MR. ROGER NEWTON: Jamie and Lucy’s father (#2-p.127). It was And as mentioned, her sister was Diane, and Jamie also had an auntie Nora (no mention if she was a Newton or not). So what name goes with Roger and Diane?

What would have been old-sounding in 1986 may have been revived by now!!

^ It may not have been old sounding, just something that goes with it... I think I'm sticking with Kate.

^I think of Mrs. Newton as a Sandy or a Brenda. Not sure why. But she could very well be a Kate! lol It's odd that they never named Mrs. Newton because she was featured in several books. You'd think that they'd have her sister or husband call her by her name!

Diane was a very popular baby name in the 60s. Assuming Mrs. Newton was close in age to her sister, anyone know what some other popular names from that decade were?

Hmm, Diane was more popular in the 50s according to the site Kylie posted. Other names on the top 25 names of the 50s list were Karen, Pamela, Nancy, Carol, Sharon, Elizabeth and Mary. I think we just figured out how Ann picked character names, lol.

I don't really get some of the kids names. Wasn't Mrs. Newton's niece named Brenda? It seemed a little weird for a little girl. Hannie, Amanda, Jenny, etc. were all alright names, but I never liked the less modern ones. I mean Archibald ... really?
