Read is a family name, her dad is Henry Read Martin and her sister is Jane Read Martin. Read Marcus was a city friend in Stacey's Mistake.
And yep, Davey was Davis! Mother's maiden name.

Also Dawn's boyfriend Parker from Baby-Sitters On Board mentioned that his mother named him Parker (her maiden last name) because she had no brothers to carry on the last name and that was her way of trying to do that.
And to get back on the subject of Parent names there are: Franklin DeWitt, Lisa and Seth (Sheila and Kendall) Engle, Ted and Kathy Kilbourne, Carolyn Braddock, Nick and Madeline Prezzioso, Don and Anita (the teachers of the child-care course in #45), Lyman and Louise Bruno and Harold and Michelle Hill. That's all I can think of off the top of my head right now.

^ i love that mrs prezzioso's name is madeline. it seems adequately fancy. When I was little I thought it would be hilarious to have two kids named Read and Paige. Obviously I should never have kids. in my elementary school there was a girl named paige turner. of course we all made comments about it.

Tonight while skimming Dawn's Portrait I saw that the Austins are Ted and Jenny.

No wonder the kids were singing songs from the Music Man so often. I like Sarah Anderson/Newton for her, haha. Some of them are truly weird, though. I wonder what Mariel's maiden name was, and if it was more complicated than "Rodowsky"? Have we mentioned Abby and Anna's parents' names yet? Rachel and Jonathan Stevenson, I think. Trying to think of any of the other ones I know. I feel like I heard somewhere that Dawn's middle name came from Granny and Pop Pop's family. Although they're Porters, so maybe it was Granny's maiden name? Oh, and Alma's maiden name was Baker, and that became her middle name after she married Richard. This is a fun thread

I've never seen The Music Man so I didn't even know what that was from back in the day. Maybe Mariel's last name was Hemmingway? :)Mrs. R.'s maiden name must've been more complicated or she wouldn't have changed it to Rodowsky! LOL. Or at least in the real world she wouldn't have but in the BSC-verse every married woman changes their name, apparently. I always thought Granny's maiden name was Emerson because Sharon's name in her yearbook/maiden name was Sharon Emerson Porter. Read could be Granny's mom's maiden name though. Or maybe two of the ghosts or Ann and a ghost each though they were originally giving Granny a last name and not knowing it was already Read/Emerson. Of course, they couldn't even keep Granny's first name straight (Rita in Dawn's Portrait and Grace in MA and the Music Box Secret) so how could they keep her last name straight?

Mr. Dewitt's name is Franklin Mrs. Braddock is Carolyn Mrs. Hill is Michelle Mrs. Hoyt is Janice Mrs. Johansen is Peggy Mrs. Kuhn is Caroline Mrs. Lowell is Denise Mrs. Stanton-Cha is Nicole Mrs. Wilder is Ginger
I find it odd that we never figured out what most of the dads names are. In the complete guide only there professions are mentioned but no names.

^Mr. Wilder is George, Mr. Kuhn is Harry.
Mr. Barrett is Hamilton, which kind of messed with my image of him...I always imagined him as some handsome man (since Mrs. Barrett is gorgeous) but she called him "Ham" which reminds me of the Golden Girls episode about the only man who ever turned Blanche down--a large, bald man named Ham Lushbaugh.

^Isn't Mr. Papadakis also George? I think that is mentioned in an LS book. Mr. Hill, IRRC, is Harold. Nick Prezzioso is another and so is Roger Newton. For the most part, as we know all, the Dad's are simply named John. I will say I am now wondering what Mr. Johanssen's first name was. He was one of the more regular (that we got to read about in a live scene) dads. As opposed to Mr. Kuhn or even Buddy's dad who were more of a mention. Did Nancy's parents ever have first names? I've been reading a lot of LS lately and don't remember either of them ever being addressed that way.

I've read that Johansson is the most common Swedish surname while the Danish, Norwegian, German and Dutch variant is Johansen, with it being most common in Denmark and Norway.
