Jessi and the Mystery of the Stolen Secrets (that's a long title...wouldn't Jessi and the Stolen Secrets suffice?) was a video I got recently from my library to put on DVD. It didn't sound familiar when I read the description on the back of the box, but when I saw it I definitely remembered it clearly. I remembered the scene where they're looking through Claud's room because they think it's bugged. Then they find a "bug", and then Claudia eats it. Because it was a Raisinet or something.
I also remembered the other stuff in the episode, like Jackie balancing the BSC notebook on his head. I also remember it taught me the sign language for apple!
I thought they did a really good job casting Matt in this episode. He looks just like he did on the covers of the books.
Jessi in the TV series doesn't look like how I pictured her in the books, but I thought the actress was really good. Jessi was really fun and likable in the series, even though in the books she has no personality.

I liked Jessi in the series too.

I liked this one because I thought it could have been a good book. It involved a lot of the regular charges, and the sitters do some of their hilariously terrible spying. Two good points were made in this one. First, Charlotte had to explain to her “almost sister” that sometimes she shared private things with Stacey that she didn’t want gossiped about with the other BSCers. Second, the question of what would happen if the charges found out that the club kept a detailed notebook about them was answered. They were pissed. Fortunately Dawn smoothed things over with an explanation and a big jar of cookies(!!).
Lol moment. When Jessi told the BSC that Matt Braddock knew how to read lips, Kristy was all “Sweet! Screw learning how to sign!” Not very characteristic of her.
As for the secrets that were stolen, I have never pictured Charlotte with Buddy. I bet she would grow up to date “bad boys” that her parents hated. The other secret, well, Derek Masters was a dork. Apparently paparazzi didn’t hang out in Stoneybrook, but the local news van would come knocking on your door if they were tipped off.

I really wish I got this one, the plot sounds fun. The last Scholastic order form at the end of 6th grade had it and I was going to get it, but I missed the deadline and after that grade, our teachers were not providing forms to us and I was getting into other things other than BSC anyways. I think in 1993/94 there were 5 or 6 new BSC videos, and that was the one I missed out on buying. I got 4 of the older ones from the Avon catalogue and Sears.

I just finished watching this one. More horrible "detective" work from the BSC! The library scene in particular was so ridiculous. Mallory and Jessi were sitting at the table with Vanessa, both reading oversized copies of picture books as, if somehow that was going to help sneak the BSC notebook onto the table. Yeah, holding a gigantic book in front of your face is so much more inconspicuous than a regular old paperback. Like Vanessa the space cadet would even notice you slipping the notebook in front of her, anyway.
I was hoping for a glimpse of BSC books in the library, just for the LOL factor, but didn't see any. Weren't there some BSC books on the shelf in the library spying scene in Mary Anne and the Brunettes?

I mentioned previously that I really liked their casting for Matt. I also think they did a good job casting Derek - he looked and acted very much like how I pictured him in the books.
And how could I not have brought up how ridiculously over-the-top the paparazzi scene with Derek was? Goodness gracious, it made the front page of the newspaper! They're acting like he was Princess Diana!

I've been rewatching this series (it's on dvd in Australia) and I liked this one. While they were in the library and if you paid attention you can see some of the BSC books on shelves and the cart. I clearly saw Super Special 2. Just look closely you'll see them.

^I remember that. They must have been on location at a real library. I would have geeked out if my library was closed to shoot a BSC episode.

In this opener the girls were all helping at Krushers practice. Claudia shouted “Jackie, catch!” and then totally rolled the ball on the ground. Great throw, Claud. The Krushers' uniforms were purple shirts with purple-blue hats. Everyone looked like grapes.
Jessi’s favorite sport was tickling. Make of that what you will.
Jessi totally broke the code. Mrs. Masters called her personally and asked for a sitter. Nobody was even mad! They were all “ooh Derek.” Derek had to wear a disguise to get through the airport. How famous was this kid supposed to be?!
Mallory totally wrote Don’t Tail on the paper. You can see her pause like “crap, how do I fix this.” They must not have had the budget for a second take.
Stacey wrote about Charlotte and Buddy in the notebook, but Jackie blurted it out like five minutes after it happened. Dawn left the notebook alone so that she could buy ice cream?!
There were a couple of mentions about BSC books in the library. Jessi and Mal ducked behind a shelf watched Vanessa through an opening. The BSC books were right under their noses (out of focus, but a fan would notice them). That had to have been a planned choice.

I'm pretty sure they spoke of Matt learning to read lips in the books themselves or am I making it up?

I remember characters saying how hard lip-reading was, in the context that Matt uses ASL and it would be crazy to expect him to lipread.
