The relationship can be romantic or friendship. Specify if the person you pick is the abuser or the abused. (This is quite the cheerful poll, I know. )

I love her, but I picked Claudia. She sometimes seemed desperate in her boyfriend searches. And every time something bad happened in her family she thought it was her fault. I can see her making excuses for a crummy relationship.
I don't know about my other choice. Maybe Mallory. I can see her getting into some unhealthy friendships.
Or Stacey. She has Mean Girl/Queen Bee potential.

Yeah, that is kind of morbid!
I agree about Claudia--I don't think her relationship with Mark Jaffe was actually abusive, but the way he treated her, especially as seen in Kristy's POV in Kristy and the Sister War was gross, and she was constantly justifying it.
I could actually see Dawn going either way--she can be really stubborn and judgmental and controlling, I think (like in Dawn Saves the Planet) and she's not above some nasty manipulative stunts, like scaring Mary Anne in Dawn's Wicked Stepsister. (Not that Mary Anne didn't play her b*tch cards hard in that book, herself.) But I could also see her replaying the whole Dawn's Big Date drama with different guys. I also think Dawn would be more likely to have the mindset "I am RAWR feminist, so obviously I am not being abused! Strong women do not get abused, and I am a strong woman, therefore I am not being abused." This is super-frustrating to witness, BTW.
Kristy I think might also have that attitude--she would be in total denial. Plus DADDY ISSUES LIEK WHOA.
And poor, poor Mallory is just kind of a punching bag, isn't she?

I could see Dawn in an abusive relationship because of her track record with boys. I think if she develops some self-esteem and self-confidence and stops changing herself for boys, then maybe she won't be in an abusive relationship.

I picked Claudia and Jessi.
Claudia has MAJOR self-esteem issues and I can just see her wanted to be loved, no matter by who or how he treats her. Claudia would fall for the excuses and "I love you's" and "I'll never do it again's." I don't think she has accurate sense of self to realize she was being abused (verbally) because she's been talked down to all her life. If she did she would probably not have a support system because she'd think "Oh, I'm so stupid, it's my fault he hits me/talks down to me. Better not tell Mom, Dad or Janine. They already think I'm a screw-up," or something.
I also picked Jessi because, while she tends to be level-headed, she also doesn't tell people when she is in trouble. Think about when she was clearly being threatened and harassed in Dance School Phantom. She could have been hurt and she didn't really want to tell anyone because she hoped it would resolve itself. That's how I see her in a relationship. Major denial. This is so common in battered women. Jessi would pretend like everything's great and be a secret sufferer.

For instance, Dawn was getting threatened in Beware Dawn and didn't tell anyone. I dunno. But I could definitely see Kristy as an abuser (Stacey's Movie) from when she took delight in teasing Alan and ordering him around in Jessi's Gold Medal (Alan was angry about those things in both), and when she laughed at Michel in European Vacation when he said something sensitive (I forget what it was). She could totally overlook the fact that she might be hurting a boyfriend and abuse him emotionally, and think that he might be a wimp or putting her on if he tells her so. I dunno.

I'm probably being influenced by fan fictions, but I voted for Stacey and Dawn. Not sure whether they would be abuser or abusee, I just see some potential bad relationships in the future. Also, this:

^ That is funny, but sad, lol. I'm still deciding on this one, sad too say, I can't narrow down my choices.

i picked abby as an abuser. i love her to death but she's definitely a bossy beast and she can be impatient too. coupled with her reluctance to be in relationships in the first place, i could see her becoming resentful towards her husband or boyfriend.

I've never read Beware Dawn. And yeah, I guess all the girls are guilty of keeping things from their parents, but to me, Jessi seems like she so desperately wants to fit in and I can see her becoming quite a perfectionist (maybe it's the ballet thing, it gives off a snooty, perfectionist vibe). So if she were in a an abusive relationship she would be in denial and pretend everything was great in the hopes that she wouldn't have to deal with it and confess that she had a problem.

I actually voted for Stacey because she just always has to have a man and she jumps from one love to the next. I could see some guy getting super pissed about it and laying the smack down.

I really don't like this thread and don't think it is something that should be speculated on.
It can happen to anyone, even those who think they are too smart and too strong for it to happen to them.

I agree completely Greer. I know it was not the intent of this thread but it almost comes across as a regular old poll which, of course it couldn't be farther from.
