Excluding years away for college, who do you think would make Stoneybrook their permanent home in adulthood?

I voted for Kristy, Mary Anne and Mallory--although I was thinking not necessarily just college. Like, I can see Mary Anne wanting to live in NYC for a few years, but definitely wanting a cute little house with a picket fence when she's ready to settle down. Kristy I picked because 1) she doesn't do well with change and 2) she's so into the BSC being active in the community. I can see her getting into local politics at a young age (kind of like Amy Poehler's character on Parks and Recreation, lol.) I can see Mallory teaching or working in the Stoneybrook Library while she works on her novels. Also, my anecdotal experience of people coming from (reasonably healthy) big families is that usually one or two kids stay close, one or two go REALLY far away, and the others sort of scatter around. I could see Mal being one of the homebodies. (And I assume the Pike parents are reasonably young, but you KNOW that when they do get old and need more help, that's going to totally fall on Mal, right?)

I agree with you, alula. I actually don't think Mary Anne would end up living in NYC at all unless she went to college there. Based on my own small town life experiences, she and a few others would most likely wind up in Stamford.
I think it's a safe bet that Dawn would be in California, Stacey would be in NYC, and Jessi would be in some place much more culturally diverse than Stoneybrook.

Kristy definitely. She doesn't like change, so therefore she'd remain in Stoneybrook and remain active in the community.

I chose Kristy. She just seems like the kind of person who wouldn't want to be far from her family and would have a fierce loyalty to her hometown. I could see her wanting to raise her kids in Stoneybrook and go to the same schools as she did.

Definitely Mary Anne - I see her really appreciating the quaint charm of a small New England town, and wanting to raise her kids there.
I see Kristy going one of two extremes - either fortressing herself in Stoneybrook for the rest of her life and being involved with all the kids' community events, or planting herself somewhere on the opposite side of the country, like California, immediately after high school.

I voted for Kristy. Someone mentioned her getting into politics and I can definitely see her trying to change Stoneybrook for the better. I do think she would want to stay and be near her family b/c her dad left and I don't think she would ever leave. I think she would see that as deserting her family.

I also voted for Kristy for a lot of the reasons already stated. I also think that she feels a lot of the Charges and their families have become like a second family of sorts to her and she wouldn't want to lose that. Most of all, Stoneybrook is "home" to her in a way it may not be too the others, sort of like her value of the BSC again in terms of the family she chose.

I voted for Mary Anne. I don't see her being able to leave her home.

I'm retracting my Mallory vote. She was the first to leave and I can see her not wanting to come back. I voted MA and Kristy as the likeliest to stay. Although Kristy, I can see moving away but not far. Maybe mercer or Stamford if she did leave.

Kristy because she can't bear changes, she'd want to stay there for her charges and her family, and she seems political (actually she is). I think she'd live in Bradford court but visit watson and her mom and brothers and sisters. She'd probably attend the local university and start other businesses. She seems the most happiest in Stoneybrook.
MA, too. I know she claims often that she'd like to live in NYC when she grows up. But I don't really imagine her doing that. She's pretty much a tourist (and a guide) and probably wouldn't be *living* there all the time. She enjoys small old fashioned New England towns.

Kristy and Claudia will be the ones to stay in Stoneybrook for the rest of their lives, IMO.

None of them...they all are fairly adventurous and I don't see any of the BSC remaining in Stoneybrook in adulthood.
For me, contrary to what several posters claim, Kristy and Claudia would live furthest from Stoneybrook in adulthood.
Kristy, despite being close to her family, is ambitious and adventourous and despite what some people claim, she is not afraid of change and is not adverse to new things.
I don't know why some people have the image of Kristy as this fearful, anxious clingy sort of person when in book canon, she's actually quite bold, hence her take-charge personality.
If she were allegedly so terrified of change, she would have never started the BSC.
I say that it was Mary Anne and Stacey who struggled with change the most.
I actually see Mary Anne and Stacey have the hardest time leaving Stoneybrook.
After all, Stacey is as close to her mum as Kristy is to her mum.
I see Mary Anne and Stacey actually staying in the New England/New York area.
Definitely New York City would be most likely Mary Anne's adulthood home.
Mary Anne could still have her wonderful little neat house in the city just as much as in the suburbs.
I think with that huge humanitarian heart, I see Mary Anne as a high school counselor reaching out to students from the poorest slums and ghettos of the city and helping their families as well.
I just cannot see huge-hearted, caring Mary Anne remaining cloistered and sheltered in any narrow, tiny "middle-class," homogeneous world and I just cannot see her failing to reach outside of her immediate comfort zone to help humanity...it's just not in her nature.
And I just somehow see Stacey and Mallory settling in Boston in adulthood and often meeting in a book club group.
I actually see Karen Brewer living in Chicago, Illinois as an adult and periodically hopping on over to see Kristy and Claudia in Minneapolis.
I see Kristy not only settling in the midwest, but having a huge family and a multi-million-dollar business.
She certainly has the high energy and drive for that...no, she is not afraid of new things at all.
And yes, Kristy values family and so does the rest of the BSC, so definitely they'd all visit the old town of Stoneybrook to see their folks and would have periodic BSC reunions.
And their siblings would be living in different areas of the States, but they'd sometimes see their siblings, especially for holidays.
One person I do see making their permanent home in Stoneybrook is BSC charge Susan Felder.
I see her buying out her parents' home and settling in Stoneybrook and making her living there producing music.
And for some intriguing reason, I envision Andrea Prezzioso, Laura Perkins and Eleanor Marshall all living in nearby Stamford as adults and living close to each other as neighbors.

I think Ann said that she saw Mary Anne living in Stoneybrook in an interview when season two was announced:
I still vote Kristy as the most likely though and Mary Anne returning.

I saw that one...Ann actually stated that Mary Anne MIGHT return to Stoneybrook later in adulthood, she never claimed that she definitely saw Mary Anne never leaving Stoneybrook.
Ann also lived in New York City for many years and she stated that Mary Anne is loosely based on herself.
I envision that while Mary Anne would settle in a residential area of New York...maybe Queens or Brooklyn or Flushing, she would visit Stoneybrook often as Stoneybrook is a short train ride away from NYC.
And I still don't get the claims of some people here thinking of Kristy as this fearful, anxious, dependent, clingy sort of person when in all the books I've read, Kristy's quite bold and loves to try new things.
It's a large part of her trademark in her character and it's that boldness and strong initiative that has encouraged the truly timid Mary Anne to overcome many of her fears and to try new things also...I think that's a large part of what cememted their lifelong friendship.
But anyway...I see Susan Felder and a few of the former clients either staying in Stoneybrook or returning to Stoneybrook after university.
And I see several former clients living in nearby Stamford and Mercer and several clients and BSC siblings living in Hartford and other nearby cities.
I had a thought of maybe Charlie and perhaps even Janine and Claudia's cousin Mimi settling in Hartford as adults. 😀😀😀😀
