Hey guys, I don't know if I'm pointing out something that is already being discussed, but I was just on Amazon and saw that there is an edition of Kristy's Great Idea being released on April 1, 2010. Does this mean that the series is getting a rerelease or something?

I don't know if the series is going be reissued but after reading this post, I went to Amazon and saw that Claudia and the Phantom Calls is being re-released that same day and year as well. I haven't seen any other books being re-released, though. If the series is being re-released, I wonder what changes will occur to the series? Maybe the inconsistencies will be corrected.

^ I think it would take the better part of a decade to fix all of them.

I wonder if they'll update them to make them more modern.
If you were going to update the series to make it more modern, without destroying it, what changes would you make?
I think the basic premise of having the meetings in Claudia's room because she has her own phone line is still plausible. I think a lot of junior highers have cell phones, but not all. It could be a topic that gets discussed in the chapter 2 descriptions, like Stacey is so mature because her parents let her have her own cell phone, while Mary Anne's dad would never even consider it.
You could update some of the parents' instructions to have cell phone numbers instead of the phone numbers for the restaurants.
I'd love it if they made the notebook entries something that were typed and emailed to everyone, and then maybe Mary Anne prints them and puts them in a notebook. I've always hated having to decipher their handwriting, and a lot of kids these days can't read cursive anyway.
Maybe Janine could help them make a BSC website that advertises the club? I could see Kristy being all over that.

We could certainly assist Ann with fixing the mistakes! Truly would be awesome if the books were updated and "corrected." ^Good idea, Rainbowgirl. They could also each type up their own entries at home and then either save it on a flash drive or email it to Claudia or whoever was in charge of keeping the main BSC Notebook info and copy/paste it. Maybe once a month, they could simply print out all the entries and stick them inside a binder so there would still be a hard copy. The Record Book, could also be typed up, certainly all their regular client info ought to be. Lol, maybe this time around the appointment calendar would either be an online one off their website or a true calendar off "real" dates. Otherwise, changes I'd make would be to maybe have each of the 7 girls, get to narrate maybe 4 or 5 stories in a particular season. The nymber of 8th grades would be cut in half from 13 to 5 or 6. Afterwards, I would aboslutely love if Friends Forever was scrapped and the girls entered high school instead. "Everything Changes" could be altered to that. If there still had to be an evil "Fire at MA's house" it should be set the summer after 8th Grade grad and before 9th grade started. IMO both would make for a much more interesting storyline--though I still hate the fire idea! Oh yeah, lol, this time I would also love to read the letters the charges and Kristy wrote to the magazine contest in "Fire." Some pet peeves of mine: make sure Charlotte is 8 and in the 4th grade! Karen for that matter ought to be 7 and in 3rd grade if she truly skipped. My other "wish" would be as I mentioned in the Dawn's Big Move thread would be to have that whole plot updated and changed to make more sense. Yes, this time around MA ought to be a true bff to Kristy instead of writing her off for Dawn. Lol, speaking of Dawn either she is a vegeterian or she isn't. Maybe 9? years later AMM has learned that vegeterians do not eat any form of meat! and .

I might be in the minority, but I don't want updates. Ann can write all the new books she wants, but I have the old ones burned into my brain a certain way and don't want that to change. I'll also guess that just the first four books will be re-released. Probably with new cover art. And apparently I'm old and grumpy because $6 for a normal sized BSC paperback book is too much. Stupid inflation.

I'm with you. I never like it when people update books to make them more modern. I wouldn't mind if they corrected some of the actual mistakes though. Just stuff like characters' ages changing when they shouldn't, and other inconsistencies.

This, plus the new book, must be a sign that they are interested in the BSC fandom, who knows, we may get another spin off.

Just stuff like characters' ages changing when they shouldn't, and other inconsistencies. I agree. I don't want them to be updated at all. I would even prefer the way they were, continuity errors and all, to modernised versions with the errors fixed.

Thinking about it, Sparklymouse, you're right. First off, I am probably in the minority of people who did not care at all for the graphic novels. My comments above regarding possibly Internet-izing? (lol) some of the BSC notebook/record book can go either way. Truly, I would also just love the ages and other inconsistencies fixed and if possible for the girls to age at some point. Even if they (Logan, Shannon, Dawn and Stacey turn 14) before graduation as indicated by their supposed birthdays. (Claudia, Kristy, Mary Anne, and Abby were after June) and for Mallory to turn 12. (May). 95% that sort of thing. I do have to admit it could be fascinating if some books I(Island Adventure) were a tiny bit more modernized or maybe "realistic-ized" is a better word! I wonder if AMM is aware of "us?" (This forum) She must have some clue that BSC is still popular. Yikes, $6 is a lot for one BSC book. I hope used bookstores won't "pull" the original ones!

Yikes, $6 is a lot for one BSC book. I hope used bookstores won't "pull" the original ones! I would think a rerelease makes the original ones sell better. I doubt the lower-numbered BSC books sell very well at used bookstores. I usually see them listed for $1-$3, when you can usually find them for less than $1 at a thrift store. I'd say the majority of used bookstores I go to don't even carry them.

I think the most likely thing to happen in the rerelease is they make really minor plot/detail changes, and they change something about the notebook entries. There have been a lot of news articles lately about how cursive writing is dying. I think that a significant percentage of Scholastic's target age for these books can no longer read cursive, so they've got to at least change fonts for all of the entries that were not printed. I really doubt it's something anyone at Scholastic is going to put significant time or energy into revamping. But I still think it's fun to think of a way to make the BSC plausibly fit in today's society

Our "inconsistencies" thread here has doen all the work of correcting that for them, if they wanted!

It would actually be really cool if the series was rereleased, I would run out and buy every new book available . That being said, I don't want them to do what SVH did when they tried to revamp and change everything under the sun (i.e. outfit changes, technology changes, name dropping of designer clothes). Those updates made the books foreign and unfamiliar to me, not nostalgic. If they were to update BSC in today's time, and if they are actually doing this come April, I hope that the changes are miniscule and enough to keep up with today's time (if they are going down that path) but not to the point of overdoing it. I want it to be the stories I grew up with and not essentially crapped on just to meet a specific target audience of teen girls who can't read books set in the past. I don't want the whole series to change if they do a revamp. I want it to be somewhat the same. Sparklymouse, you're not the only one who didn't like the graphic novels. I didn't either. But that's because I was never really big on picture books or comic books as a kid and I was used to the reading style in BSC so much that reading it in comic book form irked me. It just didn't feel right. And yeah, my guess is if they revamp the series they'll only do a few books. I doubt they'll revamp 100+ books lol ;D.

The price of the books is about even with what childrens books cost these days. When I first started reading the BSC books (20+ years ago, ugh I feel old), a book was about $3, give or take. My daughter reads the Judy Moody series and those books are $5.99 each. Funny you mention the cursive issue, as I was just dealing with this recently. My daughter is almost 9, so I thought I would give her a couple of BSC books to read, since I was about that age when I started reading them. She couldn't really get through the cursive parts. She did enjoy the Little Sister book she read though. Honestly, I'm pretty indifferent about the series being re-released, purely for selfish reasons lol. I have almost all the early books and want the later ones I haven't read yet. ;D If the series does well, they'll probably be re-released too, but it'll be a looong wait.
